(1) Annual meeting of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association commences

YANGON, 30 Jan - The annual meeting of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs association was held a Karaweik Palace in Kandawgyi this morning, with an address by Chairman of Housing Project Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

General Secretary of MCEA U Zaw Win submitted the report of the executive committee and the annual financial statement.

Chairman U Khin Shwe sought the approval of the members and the meeting came to a close.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-1 inspected the Third Housing and Construction Exhibition 2000 at the Tatmadaw Convention Hall.


(2) Uto Bridge, 180 feet long, inaugurated at Chaungtha 

YANGON, 30 Jan - Chairman of the Central Supervisory Committee for Ensuring Secure and Smooth Transport Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo addressed the inauguration ceremony of Uto Bridge (Chaungtha) constructed by Bridge Construction Project Special Group-13 of Public Works of the Ministry of Construction at Chaungtha Village, Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Division this morning.

Then, the Secretary-2 and party attended the inauguration ceremony of Uto Bridge (Chaungtha).

Secretary of Pathein District USDA U Nyan Lin thanked officials for the opening of the bridge.

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun presented gifts and commemorative pennants to the Secretary-2 and Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann.

Then, the Secretary-2 presented gifts to Deputy Superintending Engineer of Bridge Construction Project Special Group-13 U Soe Myint.

Commander Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann and Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally opened Uto Bridge (Chaungtha).

Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally unveiled the stone plaque of the bridge.
 Then, the Secretary-2 and party inspected Uto Bridge (Chaungtha).

After the ceremony, Vice-Chairman of Asia Wealth Bank Ltd U Aik Tun and Chairman of Yeeshin Agricultural Machinery Trading Company U Aik Yee presented the computer and printer and K 1 million for Chaungtha Basic Education High School.

Uto Bridge (Chaungtha) is 900 feet long and has a 10 foot and inch-wide motor way.  Clearance under the bridge is 5 feet and the bridge can bear 20 ton loads.


(3) Secretary-2 attends opening ceremony of multimedia teaching centres of BEHS in Hainggyikyun

YANGON, 30 Jan - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command, the ministers and the deputy ministers, left Chaungtha for Hainggyikyun in Ngaputaw Township this morning.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party attended the opening ceremony of Shwesagawa Street in Ward 1, Hainggyikyun.

Myoma Executive Officer U Zaw Win and Chairman of Ward Peace and Development Council U Han Myint formally opened the street. ecretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected the street and cordially greeted the local residents.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party attended the opening ceremony of multimedia teaching centres of Basic Education High Schools in Hainggyikyun.

Headmistress Daw Kyin Htwe and member of School Board of Trustees U San Tin formally opened the multimedia teaching centres.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party inspected audio visual media room, printed media room, audio system, computer room, computer aided media room and prayer-room, handicrafts room, domestic science room, music room and art room and observed the skills of the student.

The student presented painting and souvenirs to the Secretary-2.

(4) Minister inspects Pedi-Shwewa plantations in Yangon South District
 
YANGON, 30 Jan - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, accompanied by officials inspected Pedi-Shwewa plantations in Thanlyin, Thongwa and Khayan Townships, the special zone for boosting the yield of pedisein, this morning.

At a Pedi-Shwewa plantation in Kayinseik Village, Thanlyin, the minister and party and farmers discussed the per-acre-yield of pedi-shwewa.  Managing Director U Tun Than of Myanma Agriculture Service and officials explained matters related to cultivation techniques and per-acre-yield.

The minister and party inspected sample seeds of Pedi-Shwewa fertilizers and pesticides and met farmers and service personnel of MAS in Thongwa Township.  He then inspected Pedi-Shwewa plantations.

In Khayan Township, the minister and party inspected sample seeds of pulses and beans and fertilizers and met local farmers.

The minister gave instructions on extended cultivation of monsoon and summer paddy and pulses and beans, per-acre-yield of pedisein, pesinngon and matpe, technical affairs, supply of quality strains and cultivation of pulses and beans through contract system.

Then, the minister and party inspected multiple cropping of Pedi-Shwewa and sunflower.  Yangon Division designated the special zone for extended cultivation of pulses beans and the special zone for boosting per-acre-yield of pulses and beans. Out of 325,000 acres 3f pulses and beans in Yangon Division in 1999-2000, 125,000 acres have been cultivated in Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Khayan and Thongwa townships, the special zone for Pedi-Shwewa.


(5) Minister for Transport inspects development of YIA

YANGON, 30 Jan - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Director-General U Win Maung of Department of Civil Aviation, Managing Director U Tin Hlaing Hmi of Myanma Airways and officials, arrived at Yangon International Airport this morning.

The minister and party inspected repair of aircraft and progress of work and gave necessary instructions to officials.

Afterwards, the minister and party inspected the apron, the new control tower, equipment for aviation control, installation of communication equipment, and construction work.

The minister and party then inspected extension of the runway including earth work and progress of work and gave necessary instructions.

(5) 27 members resign from Taze NLD of own accord

YANGON, 30 Jan - Twenty-seven members resigned of their own accord from the National League for Democracy of Taze Township, Sagaing Division.

Twenty-seven members of Taze Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own accord, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission and the party concerned on 25 October 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
