Foreign Head of State sends felicitations to Senior General Than Shwe
Yangon, 7 Jan - The following is the message of felicitations from foreign Head of State sent to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, on the occasion of the 55th Anniversary Independence Day of Myanmar.

Livestock breeding works inspected in Mingaladon, Insein Townships
Yangon 7 Jan - Chairman of the Committee for Boosting Production of meat, fish and prawn member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Livestock Breeding and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein inspected poultry farms of Livestock Breeding, Feedstuff and Dairy Product Enterprise in Pyinmabin, Mingaladon Township this afternoon.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than met trainees of the course on raising of layers and urged them to study knowledge on livestock breeding in both theory and practice. He also spoke at length on measures to be undertaken for boosting production of meat, fish and prawn.
Minister for Livestock Breeding & Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein reported on the objectives of the course and tasks.
The 10-day course is being attended by 29 trainees from commands in states and divisions. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than went to Pale poultry farm of Yangon City Development Committee in Pale Myothit, Mingaladon Township.
Deputy Head of Production Unit Major Tin Tun Win reported on location and area of the farm, establishment of the farms, raising of fowls. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than then gave instructions.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than inspected raising of fowls in the farms, the incubator which produces 20,000 chickens every Saturday. They are distributed to poultry farms under YCDC.
The poultry farms produce over 100,000 eggs and over 3,000 viss of chicken daily and they are sold at tax-free markets and departments.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party went to the feedstuff factory of production unit of YCDC in Pyinmabin and inspected it.
The factory was built with the aim of producing 40 tons of feedstuff per day. Now it produces 25 tons of feedstuff daily. The feedstuff are sold to 12 poultry farms under YCDC.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party proceeded to Aung Hlaing Moe poultry farm of U Myint Shein and Daw Than Than Myint in Ywama West Ward in Insein Township. There are over 20,000 chicken in 11 chicken-runs. The local-made incubators produce over 8,000 chicken per week.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than also inspected raising of fowls at Maung Maung Than feedstuff and hatchery in Ywama West Ward in Insein Township. The incubators produce over 3,000 chicken per week.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party arrived back here in the evening.
Yangon, 7 Jan - The ASEAN Environment Year is observed once in every three years to showcase ASEAN’s achievements in, and commiments to environmental protection, and to promote public awareness of environmental issues in general. The year long event consist of regional and national activities related to environmental protection and sustainable development. The Royal Kingdom of Cambodia will host the ASEAN Environment Year 2003 (AEY 2003). The event will kick off with a regional launch in Seam Reap, Cambodia, on 3 March 2003 with the theme of “Together Towards Sustainable Development”.
The AEY 2003 Logo Competition is open to all nationals of ASEAN member countries. Entries are accpeted from institutions as long as they are situated in ASEAN member countries and the entry is submitted through ASEAN environmental organizations. The rules of the competition are as follow.
The logo should highlight the efforts of ASEAN member countries in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development. The logo should carry the name of the event: the ASEAN Environment Year 2003 and the theme “Together Towards Sustainable Development”.
The logo, among others, should preferablely portray Angkor Wat, the site of the regional launch for the AEY 2003. Entires should include a brief description of the significance of the features and colours used in the logo.
All entries should be on A4 size paper. Only original entries will be accepted. All entries shall remain the property of the Government of Cambodia, and may be used for any purposes deemed appropriate. Participants should summit the duly filled entry form attached herewith along with the logo.
The contestants should send their entries together with detailed information about their biography to Daw Yin Yin Lay, Joint Secretary, National Commission for Environmental Conservation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not later than 14 January.
The award for the first prize is US $ 500, all expense-paid trip to AEY 2003 to be held in Cambodia and a certificate of appreciation; the second prize, US $ 300 and a certificate of appreciation; and the third, US $ 200 and a certificate of appreciation. Those who stand positions from fourth to tenth will be awarded certificates of honour.

Course on computerized statistics for pilot agricultural census opened
Yangon, 7 Jan - The course on computerized statistics for pilot agricultural census, co-sponsored by Settlement and Land Records Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and FAO, was opened at the meeting hall of SLRD (Head Office) this morning, with an opening address by SLRD Director-General U Win Kyi. FAO Expert Dr Manual M Manual, National Planning Director U Win Tun Ni, directors of SLRD and trainees attended the ceremony. A total of 61 trainees are attending the five-day course.
Minister meets Consul, inspects communication tasks
Yangon, 7 Jan - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw received Myanmar Honourary Consul Mr Won Bae Dahn of Busan, the Republic of Korea, at his office this morning. In the afternoon, the minister inspected the building on Pyay Road where Hanthawady auto-telephone exchange will be extended. He then proceeded to International Satellite Station of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications in Thanlyin and inspected the control room and installation of satellite machines. The minister also inspected Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa-MITT.
Yangon, 7 Jan - Under the arrangement of Air Security International Co in Bangkok, Thailand, and Gold Backed Travels & Tours Co Ltd in Myanmar, 10 tourists arrived here yesterday by Bombardier Global Express (Reg No N 421 SZ) of Eagle Flight Service. They received their visas only on arrival at the Yangon International Airport. The tourists will visit Yangon and its neighbouring places and leave here tomorrow, it is learnt.

Yangon, 7 Jan - A ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the packaging factory to be operated jointly by Myanmar War Veterans Organization and Green Light Co Ltd was held at the site of the factory at Plot No 7/8 in Part 4, Shwe- pyitha Industrial City in Shwepyitha Township here this morning. Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee of MWVO member of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein attended the ceremony and put gold and silver caskets and the stone plaque at the centre of the foundation.
Then, members of the central organizing committee Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe and Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Joint-Secretary of MWVO Vice-Adjutant-General Maj-Gen Maung Nyo and committee members laid the foundation stones and sprinkled them with scented water.
After the ceremony, Lt-Gen Thein Sein heard reports on arrangements for construction of the factory presented by officials and attended to the needs.
Construction of Chindwin Bridge seen over
Yangon, 7 Jan - Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Naing on 31 December inspected Chindwin River Bridge construction site (Monywa).
The commander also saw over progress in building the main bridge and earth work. After hearing reports, he fulfilled the requirements.
Yangon, 7 Jan - The School Family Day of Mon State was held at the hall of No 6 BEHS in Mawlamyine on 3 January morning, attended by Mon State Peace and Development Council Chairman South-East Command Commander Brig-Gen Thura Myint Aung.
Commander Brig-Gen Thura Myint Aung and Mon State Education Officer U Than Myint formally opened the School Family Day archway and made speeches. Mon State USDA Secretary U Tin Soe Moe Naing presented 74 sets of CD-ROMs on university subjects worth over K 2.2 million for BEHSs to the Mon State Education Officer. Then outstanding students were presented prizes.
The commander then attended the ceremony to open Thiri Myaing tarred road in Aungthukha Ward in Thanbyuzayat Township. The road was built at a cost of K 8.6 million contributed by the Development Affairs Department and the public. It was 4,000 feet in length and 12 feet in width.
The commander then visited the Kyaikkhami pagoda and inspected renovation of Gandhakutitaik. He also inspected installation of computer sets at the multimedia classrooms of Kyaikkhami BEHS and the operation theatre and wards at the Station Hospital.
In the afternoon, the commander inspected completion of construction of a new school building at Htinshu Village BEHS and presented clothes to local people living in Kyaungywa and Ywathaya villages.

Yangon, 7 Jan - The tarred 3rd Mahathukha Street in Kanshe Ward, Taunggyi, built on self-reliance basis, was opened at the street on 2 January morning.
It was attended by Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint and members , state and district level departmental officials, members of social organizations, teachers and students, townselders and over 1,000 local people.
Deputy Director U Thaung Sein of Taunggyi Township Development Affairs Committee reported on measures taken for tarring of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Mahathukha Streets. Then, officials formally opened the new tarred streets and the commander and officials viewed round the streets. Next, the commander attended opening of tarred Chindwin Street, built on self-relience basis, in Kanshe Ward, Taunggyi. Chairman of Taunggyi District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ye Tun Sein and Superintending Engineer U Bya No of Shan State Development Affairs Committee formally opened the street.
Afterwards, the commander attended the 2003 Shan State (South) School Family Day being held at No 5 Basic Education High School in Taunggyi.
The commander and the Shan State Education Officer formally opened the ceremony by cutting a ribbon.
Then, those present viewed round the agricultural booth, the ICT booth, the multimedia booth, the arts booth, the industrial and domestic science booth and science booth displayed by teachers and students and then enjoyed the entertainment of the students. After that, in honour of the School Family Day, the commander presented K 500,000 donated by Shan State Peace and Development Council and wife of the commander K 100,000 donated by Shan State Maternal and Child Welfare Association. Shan State Education Officer U San Shwe and officials accepted the donations and the ceremony came to a close.
Yangon, 7 Jan - The Independence Day Commemorative Exhibition continued for the fifth day at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara road in Dagon Township here today. The exhibition was visited by monks, departmental heads and staff, USDA members from various townships, teachers, students and people totalling over 6,000. The exhibition will be kept open till 11 January from 9 am to 5 pm daily.

Workshop on Women's Human Rights held
Yangon, 7 Jan - Under the auspices of the Myanmar Human Rights Committee cosponsored by Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs, supported by First and 42nd, the Workshop on Women's Human Rights took place here today.
The opening ceremony of the Workshop was held at Myanmar Timber Trade Centre this morning.
Present on the occasion were the Chairman of Myanmar Human Rights Committee and Minister for Home Affairs Colonel Tin Hlaing, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney General U Tha Tun, Deputy Ministers (cum) members of Myanmar Human Rights Committee, President of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association. Vice-President of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs and invited guests. The Workshop is being attended by 29 participants of different Ministries and NGOs.
Yangon, 7 Jan - The 11 mayor’s Cup horticultural Show and Competition held at the corner of Mindhamma and Tawwin roads in Mayangon Township continued this morning.
Tomorrow, seasonal flowers, fruits, indoor and outdoor garden crotons, roses and bonsai plants will take part in the competition.

New tarred road opened in Labutta
Yangon, 7 Jan - The tarred Seinyatu Road was commissioned into service in Ward 5 in Labutta Township, Myaungmya District, Ayeyawady Division on 2 January.
The road is 875 feet long and 18 feet wide. Chairman of Labutta Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Hsan and Assistant Director of Township Development Affairs Committee U Maung Win formally opened the road. Present were departmental officials, members of social organizations, the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Township Women’s Affairs Committee and local people from ten wards totalling 2,500.
Commander inspects development of Kokogyun Township
Yangon, 7 Jan - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspected development activities in Kokogyun Township, Yangon South District, today.
The commander and party arrived at Kokogyun Airport at 9 am and were welcomed by officials, students and local people.
The commander and party visited Zinamarazein Pagoda in the township and then they paid obeisance to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Khemasiri of Sasana Mandaing Monastery and members of the Sangha and presented offertories to them.
On the occasion, the commander supplicated to the Sayadaw matters on regional development tasks to be carried out.
Next, they went to Kokogyun Police Station where the commander inspected the thriving carrot plantations and cordially met with the families in the compound of the police station.
The commander also inspected the condition of Kokogyun circular road, the reservoir with the storage capacity of 49 million gallons of water for public consumption and Township People’s Hospital. At the hall of the hospital, Patron of the Supervisory Committee for Yangon Division MCWA Daw Khin Thet Htay provided association members of the township with educational posters and medicines.
The commander, the chief-of-staff (Navy), Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung met with township level departmental officials at Kokokyun Yeiktha and explained matters related to assistance to be rendered for regional development. Then officials reported on the tasks being carried out for the regional development.
The commander presented vegetable seeds and books on agricultural techniques, and cash awards to 6 elder persons who have been living there for 50 years.
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung handed over VCDs of tenth standard curricula, donated by Secretary of township USDA U Kyi, for the students of Kokogyun BEHS to the headmistress.
Then, the commander and the chief of staff (Navy) viewed the thriving pepper plantations at the local battalions and gave encouragement.
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Director-General of MPF Brig-Gen Khin Yi, after inspecting the multimedia classrooms, provided the school with teaching aids.
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung then met with staff of the General Administration Department in Kokogyun Township and presented gifts to them. He also met with USDA members in the township and gave instructions on the rural development tasks.
Director-General of MPF Brig-Gen Khin Yin visited Kokogyun Police Station where he cordially met with members of the police force and families and gavegifts to them.

Rules of 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day painting, sculpture competitions announced
Yangon, 7 Jan — As a gesture of hailing the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day, which falls on 27 March 2003, the subcommittee for the holding of painting and sculpture competition and exhibition of the work committee for the organizing of poem and arts competition led by Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt (Htila Sitthu) as chairman announced that the painting and sculpture competition will be held with the following rules.
The painting com-petition will be divided into six categories the first for pre-primary school level, the second for junior primary school level (kindergarten to second grade), the third for senior primary school level (third grade and fourth grade), the fourth for middle school level (fifth grade to eighth grade), the fifth for high school level (ninth grade to technological and agricultural high schools) and the sixth for professional level. There will be only one category in the sculpture competition, the wood sculpture and the plaster sculpture at professional level. Anyone may take part in both.
In the painting competition from kinder-garten to high school levels, the size of the entry must be 15" x 20", and 20" x 30" for professional level. Name, NRC No, class, school, township, date of birth, father’s name, address must be expressed on the
back of the painting, with three 1.5" x 2"-size photos attached. For students, the endorsement of the schoolhead is needed.For the sculpture competition, the height of the entry must not be over 36" and its circumference not longer than 24". At the foot of the sculpture, name, NRC No, date of birth, father’s name, address must be shown, with three 1.5" x 2"-size photos attached and sent the entry right to Tatmadaw Convention Centre, U Wisaya Road, between 1 and 3 March 2003.
All the entries, painting or sculpture, must reflect the twelve objectives of the State, the objectives of 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day and the twelve fine traditions of the Tatmadaw.
Entries of both professional levels should be sent to Secretary, Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon (Central), Pabedan Town-ship, Yangon, not later than 1 March 2003 or to Secretary, Subcommittee for the Holding of Painting and Sculpture Competition and Exhibition, U Wisaya Road, Tatmadaw Convention Cen-tre, Yangon, between 1 and 3 March 2003. Entries of students all over Myan-mar should be sent to Development Division, Education Planning and Training Department, Natmauk Street, Bahan Township, Yangon, not later than 15th February 2003.
Apart from the entries for both competition, other paintings and sculptures may be sent to be displayed at the exhibition to be opened in honour of the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day.
Those paintings and sculptures must also feature the twelve objectives of the State, the objectives of 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day and the twelve fine traditions of the Tatmadaw and should be sent directly to Tatmadaw Convention Centre, U Wisaya Road, between 1 and 5 March 2003.
Entries invited to Armed Forces Day Photo Competition
Yangon, 7 Jan - The 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Photo Competition Organizing Work Committee has already announced that it will hold the photo competition.
The titles of colour photo competitions are ‘Developing Myanmar’ and ‘Preserving Cultural Heritage’ and the four entries can be presented for each title. Entries must be print photos by the size of at least 10 by 12 inches. Those who won the first, second and third prizes in the previous years will be categorized into a separated group and there will be a great chance for new competitions.
Data and captions are to be described in a separate sheet of paper and to be attached to the entries. Entries must be won creation and must not be prize-winning works in any other competitions. Handsome prizes will be presented to first, second and third prize winners as well as consolation prizes winners of each competitions.
The first, second and third prizes will be presented at the ceremony to mark the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day to be held in Yangon on 27 March 2002. The consolation prizes will be presented at the Anniversary Armed Forces ceremonies at the respective military commands. Entries are to be sent to Director U Tun Min of Information and Public Relations Department, 22-24, Pansodan Street, Yangon, not later than 14 February 2003.

Mexican Health Minister leaves for home
The visiting Mexican Health Minister Dr Julio Jose Frenk Mora left here for home by air in the evening of 7 January 2003. Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, directors-general and officials of the departments under the ministry saw the Mexican Health Minister off at Yangon International Airport.

Extempore talks to mark Armed Forces Day held in Thaton
The prize presentation ceremony of the extempore talks to mark the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day, organized by Thaton District USDA, was held at the city hall in Thaton on 25 December. Brig-Gen Myint Soe, Mon State USDA executive U Zaw Myint, Thaton District Peace and Development Council Chairman Lt-Col Tin Aung and officials and USDA members attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Lt-Col Tin Aung presented first prize to Ma May Than Myint Htwe of Thaton BEHS No 3.
Long staple cotton collectively sold in Kyaukse
The collective late-monsoon long cotton sale ceremony was held at Phyaukseikpin Cotton Purchase Depot of Myanma Cotton and Sericulture Enterprise and on 26 December. Altogether 120 cotton growers from Phyaukseikpin, Ywathit, Yethayauk and Chaungson villages collectively sold 26,493 viss of long staple cotton to the depot.
Paper reading session to mark Sarsodaw Day held in Kawlin
The paper reading session to mark the 1364 ME Sarsodaw Day, organized by Kawlin Township Writers and Journalists Association and Basic Education Department, was held at Kokkokon Village BEMS (branch) in Kawlin Township on 19 December. The students read out the papers. At the prize presentation ceremony, officials presented prizes to resource person students and outstanding students.
Gravel road put back into use in Kyonpyaw
As a gesture of hailing the 55th Anniversary Independence Day, the ceremony to put back into use 4th Teza gravel street was held in Kyonpyaw Township, Ayeyawady Division, on 12 December. The street, built at a cost of K 825,000, is 720 feet long and 12 feet wide. Kyonpyaw Township Development Affairs Committee will spend over 8.7 million on construction of three urban roads, one rural road and one bridge and digging of 22 1.5 inches tube-wells in 2002-2003 fiscal year.
December sports activities held in Mahlaing
The mass walk race as the December sports activities, organized by Mahlaing Township Peace and Development Council, was held every Saturdays. Local authorities, departmental personnel, USDA, MCWA, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, War Veterans Organization, local people and students participated in the mass walk race on 25 December.
Drinking water pond opened in Minbya
As a gesture of hailing the 55th Anniversary Independence Day, the drinking water pond, dug by Myinbya Township USDA and Township Development Affairs Committee, was opened in Aukywa Village, Minbya Township, on 25 December. The pond can supply drinking water for over 20,000 local populace.
OPV given to children in Aungmyethazan
The activities of Eighth first-time National Immunization Days were held at 40 places in 19 wards of Aungmyethazan Township, Mandalay Division, on 8 December. Patron of Township MCWA Daw Nan Nay Nay Tun, Head of Township Health Department Dr Daw Khin Mar Hsaung and officials gave oral polio vaccine to under-five children.
Villagers plough for summer paddy in Kyaukme
The collective ploughing for cultivation of Hsinshweli summer paddy was held in Webu village of Mongkin region, Kyaukme Township, on 23 December. District Chairman Lt-Col Maung Maung Kyi explained assistance to be provided. Workers of No 96 Tractor Station of Agricultural Mechanization Department participated in the ploughing tasks.

Yangon, 7 Jan - The opening ceremony of Cooperative Products Exhibition and Market Festival-2003, organized by the Ministry of Cooperatives, was held at the Cooperative Commercial Centre (Saya San Plaza) at the corner of Saya San Road and new University Avenue Road this morning.
It was attended by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Lt-Gen Min Thein, Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, directors-general and managing directors of the departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Cooperatives, commercial attaches of embassies of ASEAN countries in Myanmar, members of Yangon West District and township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials, guests, members of the leading committee for organizing the exhibition and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and social associations.
Cooperative Department Director-General Col Soe Win and Saya San Plaza Construction Committee Managing Director Dr Khin Shwe formally opened the festival.
Next, Minister Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe formally unveiled the signboard of the festival. Then, the ministers and guests viewed round the booths on the ground, first and second floors.
At the festival, 105 cooperative societies from states and divisions, three State-owned organizations, 40 companies and entrepreneurs totalling 148 will sell their products such as national costumes and household goods, consumer products, kitchen utensils, forest produces, marine products, herbal medicines, stationery, farm machinery, fertilizers, natural fertilizers, construction materials, motorcars and parts, import-substitute domestic products, paintings, sculptures, home decorations, furniture and cosmetics.
Seminars on development of cooperative tasks, sales promotion and entertainment programmes will be presented at the festival and anyone can visit it free of charge till 13 January.

Yangon, 7 Jan - The opening ceremony of the sixth track and field championship shield of the Ministry of Home Affairs and prize presentation ceremony were held at Aung San Sports Grounds this morning, addressed by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing.
Wife of the Minister for Home Affairs Daw Khin Khin Hla presented women’s championship shield to MPF team. Minister Col Tin Hlaing presented men’s championship shield and the minister’s championship shield to MPF team.
Present were Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department U Thaung Htaik, President of Myanmar Track and Field Federation Director-General of Fire Services Department U Myint Tun, the directors-general of departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the deputy directors-general, the deputy director-general of Myanmar Police Force and their wives.

MGF President' Trophy golf tournament opens
Yangon, 7 Jan - The opening ceremony of Myanmar Professional Golfers Association and Myanmar Golf Federation President's Trophy 2002-2003 men's and women's golf tournaments jointly organized by Myanmar Professional Golfers Association and MGF and sponsored by Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd was held at Hanthawady Golf and Country Club in Bago Division at 8 am today.
Golfers and guests took positions at the 10th tee, and President Maj-Gen Win Hlaing of MPGA and MGF, Commander of No 77 LID Brig-Gen Than Htay, Commercial Director Mr Anthony Wong of Rothmans of Pall Mall Myanmar Pte Ltd and Commander of Bago Division Police Force Police Col Aung Gyi alternatively teed off golf balls.
After the first day 18-hole event, defending champion Soe Kyaw Naing (Wilson) led the event with 67 strokes. Min Naing (Srixon) took the second position with 70 strokes and Aung Win (YCDC) the third position with 73 strokes in Professional Golfers Division.
In the Men's Amateur event, Aung Win led the event with 71 strokes. Zaw Zin Win and Zaw Zaw Latt shared the second position with 73 strokes, and Myo Min Aung took the third position with 74 strokes.
The tournaments are being co-sponsored by Air Mandalay as official airline, Cannon (ACCEL International Co Ltd) as official office equipment supplier, Asia Wealth Bank as official bank, Loi-Hein (Alpine) Purified Drinking Water as official drinking water supplier, Grand Royal Special Reserve Whisky as official whisky and Hanthawady Golf and Country Club.

DrugPoppy fields destroyed in Hsihseng
Yangon, 7 Jan - A combined team comprising local Tatmadaw men, members of Myanmar Police Force, and departmental personnel on 20 December destroyed 6.5 acres of poppy field near Htanpaya Village, Pinson Village Tract, Hsihseing Township. A total of 630.25 acres of poppy fields had been destroyed up to 26 December in 2002.
