Secretary-1 inspects development of Chaungtha Beach Resort, Ngwehsaung Beach Resort in Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Division
Chaungtha Beach Resort and Ngwehsaung Beach Resort are accessible from Yangon and they will become tourist attractions

Yangon, 2 Feb —Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt, this morning left here by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived at Chaungtha Beach Resort in Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Division, at 8.50 am today.

Next, the ceremony to open Hotel Max constructed by Max Myanmar Co at Chaungtha Beach Resort was held in front of the hotel, attended by Chairman of Tourism Development Management Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt.

Members of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Htay Oo, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and Chairman of Max Myanmar Co Ltd U Zaw Zaw formally opened the hotel.

Then, Chairman of Tourism Development Management Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt unveiled the signboard of the hotel and the first session of the ceremony came to a close.

The second session of the ceremony was held at the hall of the hotel.

 First, Chairman of Max Myanmar Co Ltd U Zaw Zaw extended greetings and reported on measures being taken and future tasks.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw said that the Chaungtha Resort is not far away from Yangon and arrangements are being made to enable the people to  visit the resort in a comfortable manner.

Arrangements are also being made for the emergence of the Twin Beaches which will enable the ferries to ply between the Chaungtha Resort and Ngwehsaung Resort in a short period.

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism will take measures for ensuring better transport between Yangon and the resorts and for enabling the tourists to visit the facilities with peace of mind, and it was a great pleasure for the emergence of an advanced resort.

Then,  Chairman of Max Myanmar Co Ltd U Zaw Zaw donated K 10 million for Myanmar Education Committee to mark the opening of the hotel.

Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt accepted the donation.

Next, Directors of the company U Ohn Kyaw and U Soe Tint donated K 5 million for construction of a new building for U-to Village Basic Education Primary School in Pathein Township, Ayeyawady Division.

Commander Maj-Gen Htay Oo accepted the donation.

Afterwards, Chairman of Max Myanmar Co Ltd U Zaw Zaw presented the gift to Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt and the ceremony ended.

After the ceremony, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt and party inspected round the hotel.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party had a documentary photo taken together with officials of the company and staff members of the hotel.

The hotel with 70 bedrooms is complete with reception hall, office, control room, coral restaurant, coconut cafe, business centre, beauty saloon and Karaoke lounge. Arrangements are being made to add the mini golf course, the tennis court, the swimming pool, the speed board and jet ski to the facility.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Ngwehsaung Beach Resort where they were welcomed by Col Khin Maung Latt of local station, members of the District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials, the USDA members and the national entrepreneurs.

Later, the Secretary-1 and party went to Yazana prawn breeding centre and inspected  breeding of sea prawn.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party viewed the prawn breeding ponds from the Tower.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected round the thriving of sea prawn  breeding by the national entrepreneurs  by car.

Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the Sunny Paradise Resort at Ngwehsaung Beach Resort and inspected the renovation of the resort. Officials conducted the Secretary-1 and party round the site.

Then, they arrived at the Myanmar Treasure Beach Resort and inspected the beautifying of the beach and the bungalows.

They then went to the Palm Beach Resort where they were welcomed by Owner U Win Aung and Managing Director Sehlemmer and inspecetd the bedrooms, ponds and the beauty of resort.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the Yuzana Beach Resort.

Then, the Secretary-1 met with members of the Disrtcit and Township Peace and Development Councils and the national entrepreneurs at the hall of Yuzana Beach Resort.

First, Owner of the Palm Beach Resort U Win Aung reported on arrangements being made for more arrivals of tourists and requirements, Director of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Win Myint on works being carried out for implementation of the Ngwehsaung region development project, Project Director of Asia World Co U Myat Cho Win on upgrading  Pathein-Ngwehsaung road and progress in  construction of bridges large and small on Pathein-Ngwehsaung road and Chairman of Yuzana Co Ltd U Htay Myint on breeding of sea prawn on commercial scale in Ayeyawady Division.

In response to the reports, the Secretary-1 fulfilled the needs.

He said that they were there to find out the conditions of the Chaungtha Beach and Ngwehsaung Beach resorts, the hotel industry, the tourism services and other businesses and to fulfil the needs adding that Myanmar keeps the natural land and water beauty intact. There are many interesting things in Myanmar for tourists such as ancient cultural heritage, rich culture and traditions of the national races, natural beauty and beautiful beach resorts, he said.

With the development of tourism, progress will be made in transport, living standard,  and trade. They will directly contribute to development of socio-economic life of the people.

The Chaungtha Beach Resort and Ngwehsaung Beach Resort are accessible from Yangon, and the facilities will become the tourist attractions. Thus, the respective officials are to make efforts for safeguarding the natural beauty of the resorts.

He urged the hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs to make collective efforts for enabling the tourists to enjoy the beauty of the region with peace of mind and for development of tourism industry as they have much experience.

Then, the Secretary-1 and party left there and arrived back here at 2 pm today.

The State Peace and Development Council hereby enacts the following law;-

1. This Law shall be called the Law Amending the Attorney General Law, 2001.

2. In the Attorney General Law;-

        (a)     the expression "a Deputy Attorney General" contained in section 2 sha1l be substituted by the expression "three Deputy Attorneys                       General".

        (b)     the expression "the Deputy Attorney General" contained in sub-section (a) of section 4 shall be' substituted by the ,expression "each                    Deputy Attorney General".

Maha Atula Pattanila Bowl conveyed to offer Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Buddha Image

Yangon, 2 Feb — The conveying ceremony of Maha Atula Pattanila Bowl, which will be offered to Lawka Chantha Abhaya Labha Muni Buddha Image on Mindhamma Hill, was held at the pandal of Mandalay Railway Station at 7 am yesterday.

Present at the ceremony were State Ovadacariya Wahso Kyaung Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Agghiya, Sayadaws and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation U Pe Than, Mandalay City Development Committee Chairman Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Nay Win, Tactical Operations Commander Col Thein Hlaing,  Director-General of the Department for Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana U Sann Lwin, Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Secretary Lt-Col Tin Ohn and members, divisional departmental officials, Mandalay District Peace and Development Council Chairman Lt-Col Tin Tun and township PDC chairmen, commanding officers of regiments and units of Mandalay Station, Wellwisher Thiri Thudhamma Manijotadhara U Taw Taw and family, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Assiciation, personnel of Myanma Railways and guests.

First, the ceremony was opened with the three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. Next, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Agghiya administered the Nine Precepts to the congregation and Sayadaws and members of the Sangha recited Parittas.  The commander and U Taw Taw, donor of the Bowl, presented the small replica of Maha Atula Pattanila Bowl to Bhaddanta Agghiya. Then the commander and officials presented robes and offertories to the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

The commander accepted K 447,432 donated by local people while conveying the Bowl from Sakyintaung Village to Mandalay Station; K 1.3 million by Mandalay Division PDC, MCDC and divisional departments; K 180,100 by Thiri Thudhamma Manijotadhara U Thein Maung; and K 200,000 by U Tin Hla (Lamintha). The commander then handed over the donations to Director-General U Sann Lwin.

Mandalay Division Sangha Nayaka Committee Chairman Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Sadhamajotika Dhaja Shwe Wawin Kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sasana Bhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained and the first session of the ceremony ended with three-time recitation of Buddha Sasanam Ciranthithatu.

At the second session, the commander and officials sprinkled the Bowl with scented water. Then, the conveying ceremony commenced at 8.10 am.

Maha Atula Pattanila Bowl will  stop over at Thazi, Yamethin, Pyinmana, Taungoo and Bago stations.


Homage paid to Tipitakadhara title recipient Sayadaws

Yangon, 2 Feb — Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe attended the ceremony to pay homage to Tipitakadhara title recipient Sayadaws at Kanmyint Monastery on Thiri Mingala Road in Sangyoung Township this morning.

Disciples and well-wishers donated provisions to the Sayadaws at the ceremony.

Afterwards,  the com-mander and party took the Five Precepts from Tipitakadhara Agga Maha Pandita Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumangalalankara. Next, members of the Sangha recited Parittas.

Next, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe and officials offered provisions to the Sayadaws.

Later, Tipitakadhara Dhammabhandagarika Agga Maha Pandita Yaw Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sirindabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Also present on the occasion were No 1 Military Region Commander Col Tint Hsan, No 3 Military Region Commander Col Yan Naing Oo, local authorities and guests.

Energy Ministry presents prizes to outstanding students
 

Yangon, 2 Feb — The prize presentation ceremony for outstanding students of Ministry of Energy  for 2001-2002 was held at Yadana meeting hall of the Ministry of Energy yesterday evening.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Deputy Ministers U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung, directors-general and managing directors and directors, prize-winners and staff families.

The minister made a speech on the occasion and presented prizes to 12 outstanding students for 2001-2002 academic year. An outstanding student, on behalf of the winners, spoke words of thanks. There are 115 distinction winners out of 1,014 staff’s children who passed the matriculation examination in 2001-2002.


Education facilities, UDSA activities inspected in Mandalay 

Yangon, 2 Feb — Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by No 2 Basic Education Department Director-General Lt-Col Win Htein and officials, arrived at Mandalay Basic Education High School No 10 (the Royal Diocesan High School) in Mandalay on 31 January.

The minister and party inspected maintenance of the school built over 133 years ago by King Mindon.

Then, they went to Nanmyo BEHS No 18 and met with the Officer in-charge of the school, teaches and members of the School Board of Trustees.

Secretary-General U Than Aung of Union Solidarity and Development Association proceeded to Mandalay Division USDA Office where he met with executives at different levels and discussed duty and functions of the association.

On 1 February, the minister attended the ceremony to unveil  the education motto at Amarapura Kinbat Post-Primary School in conjunction with the multimedia teaching centre. Also present were the Township Education Officer, school heads, USDA members, local authorities, students and local people.

USDA Secretary-General U Than Aung also attended the ceremony to put back into service Kinbat-Tamoksoe Road and the road leading to Yangon-Mandalay Highway built by Mandalay Division USDA and launching ceremony of Kinbat-Mandalay bus line.


Commander inspects tax-free markets in Yangon City

Yangon, 2 Feb — Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspected tax-free markets in Yangon City this morning and fulfilled the requirements.

Accompanied by No 1 Military Region Col Tint Hsan, the commander arrived at the tax-free market at the corner of Hanthawady and Kyundaw Roads in Kamayut Township where they were welcomed by No 3 Military Region Commander Col Yan Naing Oo, local authorities, Chairman of Myanmar Rice and Paddy Wholesalers Association U Nyein and officials of Yangon City Development Committee.

The commander inspected sales of vegetable, meat, fish and egg shops of ministries, YCDC, regiments and units under Yangon Command, rice shops of MRPWA and the personal goods shop of Ministry of Industry-1 and gave necessary instructions to officials.  Next, the commander and party went to the tax-free market on Pantaya Road in Dagon Township. They inspected sales of vegetables, meat, fish, egg, groceries and personal goods and cordially conversed with buyers and shopkeepers.

At the market, the commander gave instructions to officials of YCDC on sanitation of the tax-free markets and sales of fresh vegetables, meat and fish.


MNCWA gives educative talks at Ministry of Home Affairs

Yangon, 2 Feb —Myanmar National Commmitte for Women’s Affairs gave educative talks to the families of Ministry of Home Affairs at the hall of Aungthabye  Ye Yeiktha on Kyaikwaing Pagod Road, here, this morning.

It was attended by member of MNCWA and Working Committee Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Vice-Chairperson of MNWCWA Prof Dr Daw May May Yee, Secretary of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing and wife, Director of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare Maj-Gen Khin Aung Myint, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, directors-general of departments under the ministry and families of the ministry numbering over 600.

At the talks, Vice-Chairperson Prof Dr Daw May May Yee gave the talks on formation and functions of MNCWA and member of MNCWA and Working Committee Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe on prevention against violence of women and rehabilitation.

Then, General Administration Department held the talks on prevention against human trafficking and Bureau of Special Investigation the extempore talks.

Next, the minister’s wife presented gifts to the lecturers and then spoke words of thanks. 


Myanmar Embassy organizes goodwill golf tourney in Malaysia

Yangon, 2 Feb — The goodwill golf tourney to mark the 55th Anniversary Independence Day of the Union of Myanmar which fell on 4 January 2003, organized by Myanmar Ambassador to Malaysia U Hla Maung with staff of the Myanmar embassy, was held at Kajang Hill golf resort in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 15 January.

Present on the occasion were ambassadors to Malaysia, military attaches, high ranking officials of Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the former ASEAN Secretary-General Tan Sri Dato Ajitsimgh Myanmar and Malaysian entrepreneurs and guests totalling over 50.

After the tournament, those present were served with lunch. Then, Ambassador U Hla Maung presented prizes to the respective winners. In addition, Myanma handicraft sent by the State Peace and Development Council and Pawhsanhmwe rice packets provided by Myanma-Barnus Rice Merchant Association in Malaysia were presented to participants of the golf tourney individually. The goodwill golf tourney successfully ended at 3.30 pm.


IT Caravan 2003 gives lectures at Chanayethazan BEHS No. 16

YANGON, 2 Feb - IT technicians of the IT Caravan 2003 included in the agenda of the Second Myanmar ICT-Week gave talks at Chanayethazan Basic Education High School No 16 in Mandalay on 31 January morning.

Present were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Deputy Commander Brig- Gen Nay Win, local authorities, departmental officials, IT Caravan Group members,educationa1 officers, school heads of basic education schools, students of Sagaing and Mandalay Education Colleges and others.

At the ceremony, the commander gave a speech. Then, Director-Genera1 Lt- Col Win Htein of No 2 Basic Education Department and President of Myanmar Computer Federation U Thein Oo extended greetings.

Next, Vice-President of MCF Rector (Retd) of University of Computer Studies Adviser to the Ministry of Education Dr Kyaw Thein lectured on ICT & Today, MCF Executive U Myo Nyein Aye on How to Apply the Multimedia in Education, U Kyaw Thu Aung of Myanmar Computer Industry Association on Internet for Next Generation, executive of MCIA U Aung Than Nyunt on Language Lab and U Aung Zaw Oo of Myanmar Computer Scientist Association on IT Based Science Education. Later, Vice-Chairperson Daw Wah Wah Tun of MCIA gave a concluding remark.

After the ceremony, Myanmar Computer Federation President U Thein Oo presented a commemorative pennant to Director-General Lt-Col Win Htein of No 2 BED.

Then, officials accepted books worth K 66,700 donated by the Computer Journal through Dr Kyaw Thein; CDs on presentation of the talks by MCIA Vice-Chairperson Daw Wa Wa Tun; and language lab CDs donated by U Aung Than Nyunt of Soft Guide.

On behalf of the IT Caravan Group, Joint-Secretary Daw Than Than Tint of MCF accepted gifts presented by Headmistress Daw Htwe Htwe Than of Chan-ayethazan BEHS No 16.

Then, IT technicians demonstrated application of Internet and computers and answered the queries.

The IT Caravan Group will continue the similar demonstration in Meiktila on 3 February.


Second MICT Week, 2003 continues

Yangon, 2 Feb — The Second Myanma Information and Com-munication Technology Week, 2003 continued at the MICT Park on Hline Universities Campus today.

Members of the Sangha, people, students and youths visited 198 booths of the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and local and foreign companies displayed at the MICT Park.

The exhibition will be kept open free of charge till 5 February. Buses of MICT Park are ready  at the junction of Insein and Parami Roads and Pyay and Parami Roads to transport the visitors.


Minister inspects agriculture & livestock farm

YANGON, 2 Feb - Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone this afternoon arrived at Myaseinyaung Agrriculture and Livestock Breeding Farm of the Ministry of Commerce in Hlegu Township.

Officials reported on progress of works and extension tasks.

Then, the minister inspected paddy fields, fish ponds, goat and cow breeding farm and poultry farming tasks and attended to requirements.



Minister inspects construction of roads, bridges

YANGON, 2 Feb - Minister for Construction Maj Gen Saw Tun concerned of Public Works yesterday morning inspected progress in construction of No2 Highway at the entrance to Yangon. The minister and party looked into progress of work of Yangon-Bago Six-lane Highway. Then, the minister and party inspected repaving of Naunglaybin-Pazunmyaung-Madauk road and heard reports on tarring of the road and heard reports on tarring of the road by Bago Division Superintending Engineer U Kyaw Lwin and Bago District Senior Engineer U Than Naing Aung. The minister gave instructions to them.

The minister and party looked over construction tasks of Sittaung Bridge (Shwekyin-Madauk ). The minister and party inspected construction of the four-lane Yenwe Bridge carried out by Bridge Construction Special Group-5. Then, the minister and party saw over construction of four-lane Baingda Bridge. Officials concerned reported on work progress and the minister gave necessary instructions and fulfilled their needs.


Thai national Aik Owi (a) Htila Whit arrested together with stimulant tablets

Yangon, 2 Feb—A combined team comprising the local intelligence unit and the border region rule enforcement agency, acting on information, intercepted Thai national Aik Owi (a) Htila Whit, 36, son of Nainesanit, of No 207, Block-6, Pagway Ward, Chiang Rai, Thailand, who is making his way from Maisai to Tachilek, on the Tachilek-Maisai friendship bridge on 29 January and seized 9,800 stimulant tablets concealed in his Jean jacket.

Further information led to the arrest of the ten suspects together with 610,000 stimulant tablets at the house of Aik Owi in Weinkyauk Village, Honglek Village-tract, Tachilek Township on 30 January. Action is being taken against the suspects under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police station concerned in Myanmar.


Drug dealers seized in Yangon

Yangon, 2 Feb — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Room No 804 of the December Hotel in Dagon Township and seized Ma Aye Aye Mon (a) Ma San with 2,800 stimulant tablets in her handbag on 22 December 2001.

In connection with the case, action was taken against Ma Aye Aye Mon (a) Ma San, 45, daughter of U Tin Maung of No 618, 13th Street, No 9 Ward, South Okkalapa Township under Section 15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

On 27 December 2002, the Yangon West District Court handed down  5 years’ imprisonment on her under Section 15 and 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(a) separately.
