Secretary-1 honours artistes of TV-plays on nation-building endeavours

Yangon, 18 Feb —  Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt honoured artistes who participated in TV-plays on nation-building endeavours at a ceremony held at the Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel in Bahan Township at 7.30 pm today. First, the Secretary-1 cordially greeted the artistes. Then, the Secretary-1 and party had a dinner together with them.

After the dinner,  the Secretary-1 presented certificates of honour for those participated in Myu-Hmaung-Kin-The-Chitchin-Hnalon-Ein and Sein-Si-Thaw-Lan which honoured the 56th and 57th Anniversary Armed Forces Days to the director of the TV-plays A-1 U Hla Myo, for those who participated in Yaymacha Myaymacha to the director of the TV-play U Khin Zaw, and for those who participated in TV-plays on nation-building endeavours presented by director U Tin Oo, Kyi Tha (Pwekyaikkhin), director Tin Than Oo, Wai Hmaing Nyo and Capt Thet Tin of Myatkhinthit Thukuma Lwinpyin to director Tin Than Oo.



Secretary-1 attends opening of eight-storey building of Jivitadana Sangha Hospital in Bahan  

Yangon, 18 Feb — A ceremony to open the newly-built eight-storey Waizayanda building of the Jivitadana Sangha Hospital in Bahan Township was held  at the building this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt. The chairman explained facts about construction of the new building. Then, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and Chairman U Ko Ko Gyi formally opened the new building.

Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt pressed the button to unveil the stone inscription of the building and sprinkled scented water on it.   Next, the Secretary-1 and party inspected the building and its wards and left necessary instructions. Afterwards, the opening ceremony came to an end. The hospital was built over 60 years ago with the aim of giving free medical treatments regardless of race, religion and sex.

The hospital daily receives donations of over K 1 million donated by over 100 wellwishers. In the hospital with the donations, free medical treatments are given to an average of 100 in-patient members of the Sangha and 50 nuns, and 150 civilian out-patients every day. Respective professors and specialists contribute health care services. The 20-member hospital management board of trustees also contribute voluntary services in carrying out management and administrative services in conformity with the rules and regulations of the hospital. The building with two elevators was constructed at a cost of over K 230 million.

Cornerstone laid for construction of Maha Siddhijaya Pagoda

Yangon, 18 Feb — A ceremony to lay cornerstones for construction of Maha Siddhijaya Pagoda on Sandawady Hill in Myeik, Taninthayi Division, was held on the hill on 16 February morning, attended by Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Member of the State Ovadacariya Myeik Shwedaung Monastery Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Kesara and members of the Sangha.

The ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. Then, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kesara administered the Nine Precepts to the congregation.

Afterwards, lay persons presented paritta flowers, water, thread, sand and stones to the Sayadaws. They were then sprinkled and tied at the respective sites.

Next, the Sayadaws recited parittas. Lt-Gen Maung Bo presented the gems casket and bronze inscription to be offered to the pagoda and offertories; the commander, the stone inscription, cornerstone and offertories, and departmental heads and wellwishers, offertories to the Sayadaws.

After that, Presiding Nayaka of Myeik Botaungtawya Monastery Sayadaw Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Sudassana Bhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained.

Then, the cornerstones were conveyed round the pagoda clockwise. At the auspicious time, the commander laid the main cornerstone at the designated site and sprinkled scented water on it.

Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo laid the gems casket and bronze inscription in the middle of the foundation.

Next, Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association Chairman U Khin Shwe and party presented K 6 million for six basic education schools in Dawei, Myeik and Palaw Townships to the commander.

Afterwards, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sudassana Bhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Adjutant-General receives Vietnamese delegation  

Yangon, 18 Feb — Member of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein received Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Central Military Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Le Due Tu  at the hall of Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha here at noon today.  

55th anniversary of Myanmar-Russia  diplomatic ties observed

Yangon, 18 Feb— A reception to mark the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation was held at the Russian Federation Embassy this evening.

Present were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung and wife, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and wife, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, guests, Ambassador of the Russian Federation and embassy staff.

Minister U Win Aung and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr Igor S Ivanov sent messages on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation.


Vietnamese Minister  of National Defence visits Shwedagon Pagoda

Yangon, 18 Feb—The 15-member goodwill delegation led by Minister of National Defence of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Sr Lt-Gen Pham Van Tra, accompanied by Vice-Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Aung Kyi, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.

The visiting minister and party paid obeisance to Jade Buddha image.

The minister offered flowers, lights and joss sticks to Kassapa Buddha image and donated cash for the pagoda. Members of the pagoda board of trustees presented a picture of the Shwedagon pagoda.

The Vietnamese Defence Minister paid obeisance to Maha Atula RazaThukha Gawun Buddha image and observed the bell of King Thayawady. The guests visited National Defence College and met Commandant Maj-Gen Moe Hein and heads of departments. They exchanged gifts. The minister signed in the visitor’s book.

The Vietnamese Defence Minister and party visited Myanma Gem Museum, Myanma Information and Communication Technology Park.  Chairman of MICT DC Brig-Gen Thein Swe explained the establishment of the park, production of software, pilot project laid down by e-National Task Force, cooperation with Malaysia and Korea and future tasks.

The Vietnamese Defence Minister and party observed lecture given on Internet introduction, computer engineering by Japanese IT technicians at e-Learning Centre and software development.

They also visited Bagan Cybertech IDC and Teleport.

Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung hosted dinner in honour of the visiting minister and party at Karaweik Palace.


Indian Manipuri dance troupe entertains

Yangon, 18 Feb — Under the bilateral cultural exchange programme, Manipuri dance troupe from India, led by Ms H Vijayanumala Devi, gave performance for the last day at the National Theatre here this evening.

Among the audience were Director-General U Kyaw Win of Fine Arts Department, the Ministry of Culture, departmental heads, officials of Indian Embassy and other foreign embassies in Yangon and their families and  guests and the public.


Vietnamese delegation calls on Chief Justice and Attorney-General, holds discussions  

Yangon, 18 Feb — The visiting Vietnamese delegation led by  Deputy Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Chief Justice of Central Military Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Le Due Tu met with Chief Justice U Aung Toe at the latter’s office here this morning.

Later, the delegation also met with Attorney-General U Tha Tun at the latter’s office. Also present were, Deputy Attorney-General Dr Tun Shin, the director-general and officials of the Attorney-General’s Office.

The Vietnamese delegation, together with the officials, visited Shwedagon Pagoda this morning.

At 10.30 am, the delegation cordially discussed judicial affairs with Deputy Chief Justices U Than Oo and U Thein Soe and party at the meeting hall of the Supreme Court.

Justices of the Supreme Court U Khin Myint and Dr Tin Aung Aye, the directors and officials also attended the meeting.

Deputy Chief Justice U Than Oo hosted a dinner in honour of the delegation at Traders' Hotel in the evening.

Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Vice Adjutant-General Maj-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, the deputy chief justices, the deputy attorneys-general, justices and directors of the Supreme Court and officials also attended the dinner.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo inspects regional development in Taninthayi Division

Yangon, 18 Feb—Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence, inspected   pulses and beans cultivation in Hsinku Village, Thayetchaung Township, Dawei District,  on 15 February morning.

First, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party heard a report by Chairman  of Township Peace and Development Council U Soe Naing on cultivation of pulses and beans on 126 acres of land at field No 390 and field 391.

Then,  Lt-Gen Maung Bo gave instructions and cordially greeted farmers and local people.

Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party inspected   thriving oil palm plantation of  Anawa Soe Moe Trading Co on either side of Dawei-Myeik motor road. Later, they attended the ceremony to open and hand over the Pedek Village Basic Education High School in Thayetchaung Township.

Headmaster U Kyi Than and Chairman  of the School Board of Trustees U Hin Swan formally  opened the ceremony.

Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo  unveiled  the signboard of the school.  Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party viewed round  the new school building. Then, the opening  ceremony  was held  with an address by Lt-Gen Maung Bo. Lt-Gen Maung Bo said that Pedek BEHS Branch in Thayetchaung Township was upgraded into the  BEHS one. He quoted Senior General Than Shwe as saying that in building a modern and developed nation measures to ensure human resources development need to be fully implemented. Human resources development programmes needed region-wise are also to be widely  undertaken. The opportunity for the youths regardless of age and qualification to pursue education in any region is to be created in the present day, the knowledge age.

Nowadays, those from villages and far-flung regions across  the nation have equal opportunity to pursue education like towns and cities. A total of K 31065.8 million was alloted to  development of the education sector in 2002-2003 fiscal year. But financial assistance and advice of local authorities, departmental officials and wellwishers are required in successful implementation of projects in the education sector. The new two-storey building was built with the contribution of K 4.2 million by Education Department, K3.6 million by wellwishers and others. He urged local people and parents to make efforts to fulfil teaching aids needed for multimedia classrooms and to participate in the tasks for enhancing the national education standard. Then, Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye made a speech. Afterwards, member of SBT U Soe Myint handed over the documents related to the new building to Taninthayi Division Education Officer U Thaung Sein.

     Then, Headmaster U Kyi Than accepted the donations for the school. The donations included one computer by Lt-Gen Maung Bo, 20 sets of headphones by Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye, K 1 million by  Dr Khin Shwe and group, desks and white board worth K 4,5000 by Anawa Soe Moe Trading Co, one TV set by U Hin Swan and furniture worth K400,000 by U Soe Myint. Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party arrived at the guest house of Palaw Township sharing borders with Dewai District and Myeik District. At the  guest house, Commissioner of Taninthayi Division U Maung Maung Win reported on plots for office of respective department in Palauk Village and Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye and officials gave supplementary reports. After giving instructions, Lt-Gen Maung Bo inspected progress of land reclamation.

Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party  attended the opening ceremony of multimedia classrooms of Palaw Basic Education High School. First, the headmaster and the chairman of the School Board of Trustees formally  opened the multimedia  classrooms. Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo unveiled the signboard of the multimedia  classrooms. Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and guests inspected skill demonstration of the students. Deputy Director-General U Sitan Zatwan of No 1 Basic Education Department explained the purpose of the opening of the multimedia classrooms.

Then, the chairman of SBT explained the efforts for opening of the multimedia classrooms.

Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo made a speech. Next, Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye spoke words of thanks. Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and the commander  accepted the donations for the school. The donations included K 500,000 by Lt-Gen Maung Bo, K 500,000 by Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye, K 1 million  by Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association, K 1.165 million by wellwishers, K 1 million by wellwishers and others. After the ceremony, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party had a documentary photo taken together with teachers and students. Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party proceeded to Myeik bypass construction project site in Daw Village.

At the briefing hall, officials reported on progress of work to Lt-Gen Maung Bo who gave instructions on timely completion of the project. Then, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party inspected progress in construction of Kywegu-Kyaukphya bridge on Dewai-Myeik motor road. At the briefing hall, officials reported on progress of work and future tasks to Lt-Gen Maung Bo who gave instructions on timely completion, meeting the set standard, minimizing loss and wastage and safety measures. Next, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party arrived back in Myeik in the evening.


Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects development undertakings, plans to ensure regional rice sufficiency in Mandalay Division  

Yangon, 18 Feb — Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence inspected development undertakings in Mandalay Division yesterday, and also met with Division Agricultural Supervisory Committee.

At the dam project on Samon River near Htanlontat village, TadaU Township, Kyaukse District, he heard a report on the aims of the project, presented by U Victor, Deputy Director of Irrigation Department. U Victor said the aim of the project is to irrigate 6,200 acres of land located in the upper reaches of the tributary canals originating from the Kinta feeder canal, and to green the environs of the Mandalay International Airport. The project was launched in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe to effectively utilize the water resources in Mandalay Division.

Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint gave a supplementary report. Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the chosen site to build the dam. The contractor is the Construction Group 7 of the ID.

Accompanied by officials, he inspected Ayeyawady River Bridge (Yadanabon) Project near the  existing Innwa Bridge in Amarapura Township. Senior engineers explained progress in building the approach structure on the Mandalay bank, bore piling for the approach structure on Sagaing bank, construction material and fuel supply, and construction work.

On Sagaing bank, he observed the bore piling work. He  spoke of the need to build the bridge in accord with the standard within the project period, minimize wastage and ensure worksite safety.

In the briefing hall, officials also explained the work to choose the axis for the road linking the bridge and the Mandalay city ring road.

In the afternoon, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the project to upgrade the 73rd Street to a four-lane highway.

In  meeting with Division Agricultural Supervisory Committee, he said effective efforts are to be made for ensuring  rice sufficiency in the Division. He told the officials to make arrangements to grow paddy on all cultivable land in the division, repair and maintain the dams systematically and effectively operate the water pumping stations as the division’s crops are relying heavily on irrigation.

Chemical as well as natural fertilizers and quality crop strains must be used to increase the per acre yield, he said, urging them to compile actual data for agriculture and seek means to ensure regional food sufficiency.

At the meeting, Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint also explained crop cultivation in the division, future agriculture programmes, rice production, plans to extend sown acreage, water pumping stations and actual yield of paddy, sesamum, sugarcane, cotton and other crops. Officials then briefed the meeting on cultivation of paddy, summer sesamum and other crops, irrigation of crops and running of the water pumping stations.


Self-reliant tarred roads in Hline township opened 

Yangon, 18 Feb — An opening ceremony of self-reliant tarred roads in Ward-16, Hline township, Yangon West District, was held in conjunction with the ceremony to present prizes to the model ward in performing sanitation tasks in the township at the pandal on U Chit Maung Street this morning. Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe attended and formally opened the ceremony. Also present were Yangon City Development Committee Secretary Col Myint Aung, No 1 Military Region Commander Col Tint San, Yangon Division General Administration Department Commissioner U Hla Soe, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, departmental officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross &  Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Women’s Affairs Committee and War Veterans Organization and ward-dwellers.

First, Hline township PDC Chairman U Kyaw Tin explained the tasks carried out for construction of U Chit Maung Street, U Po Hman Street and U Aye Street and the purpose of presenting prizes for sanitation work to Ward-16. Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe presented the prize for the Ward-16 to Ward PDC Chairman U Hla Tun. Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein also presented a prize to the ward. The commander, YCDC Secretary Col Myint Aung and wellwisher Daw Saw Myint formally opened U Chit Maung Street and viewed along the street. Similarly, U Po Hman Street and U Aye Street were formally opened by Township PDC Chairman U Kyaw Tint and wellwishers. The streets were altogether 4,341 feet long and 12 feet wide. Construction cost was over 14 million —11.3 million contributed by public and over 2.7 million by YCDC.


Multimedia classrooms opened at Seikkyi Khanaungto BEHS, new school building handed over

Yangon, 18 Feb — The opening ceremony of the multimedia classrooms and handing over of new school building of the Basic Education High School, Seikkyi Khanaungto Town-ship,Yangon South District, was held at the school this morning, attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and Minister for Education U Than Aung.

First, Headmistress Daw Tin Tin and Chairman of school board of trustees U Ohn Maung formally opened the multimedia classrooms of the school by cutting a ribbon.

Then, Commander Maj-Gen Myin Swe unveiled the signboard of the school.

Next, the commander and party viewed round learning of the students in Computer Application Room, Computer Aided Instruction Room, Electronic Media (Video System) Room, Language Lab and Electronic Media (Audio System), Reading Centre and fulfilled the  needs.

Afterwards, the opening ceremony of new school building marking golden Jubilee followed and Headmistress Daw Tin Tin and wellwisher U Kyu Khin opened the school worth K 15 million.

Then, the commander and party inspected the new school and painting and domestic science room. They enjoyed entertainment of the students. Chairman of school board of trustees U Ohn Maung reported on measures taken for opening of multimedia classrooms and wellwisher U Kyu Khin explained the purpose of the donation and headmistress Daw Tin Tin explained application of teaching aids at the school on the occasion.

Next, cash donation ceremony followed. YCDC donated K 300,000; collective donation of Seikkyi Khanaungto Township, K170,000; the old students, K 200,000; U Kyu Wein, K 300,000 and U Tin Aung Aye (Bayintnaung Brokerage), K 100,000 and the commander and the minister accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to the wellwishers.

Afterwards, Minister U Than Aung presented a computer worth K 60,000 to the headmistress for the school and wellwisher U Kyu Khin handed over related documents of the new building to Director-General of No 3 Basic Education Department U Tin Win.

Then, the commander explained the tasks carried out by Yangon Division Peace and Development Council for opening the multimedia classrooms at the school and performance for developing Seikkyi Khanaungto Township like Yangon. The minister explained measures taken by  Ministry of Education for opening the multimedia classrooms and spoke words of thanks and the ceremony came to a close.

Next, the commander and party posed for a documentary photo together with members of school board of trustees, wellwishers, teachers and students. Afterwards, the commander and party inspected completion of circular road.


Livestock breeding tasks in Mandalay inspected     

Yangon, 18 Feb — Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein inspected the site in NyaungU where Sanpya poultry farm will be established under the guidance of  the Head of State on 16 February.

The minister and party went to Inpinwa Village in Yeway Village-tract, Meikhtila District, Mandalay Division and inspected raising of local chicken and gave necessary instructions to officials.

Then, the minister and party proceeded to Nyaungbintha village in Tawma Village-tract where they inspected breeding of cows at U Khin Maung Win’s farm and breeding of chicken at U Phyu Win’s farm and attended to the needs.

Next, the minister and party went to fish breeding camp No 2 in Kume, Myittha Township, and fulfilled the requirements.

They yesterday visited the site in Zeebingyi, PyinOoLwin Township, where Zeebingyi poultry farm will be built.

On hearing the reports by Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise Managing Director U Khin Maung Aye, the minister explained that arrangements are to be made for the farm to distribute local chicken to livestock breeding entrepreneurs as import substitute product.

The minister and party also inspected AA strain poultry farm and fulfilled the needs. They then arrived at the research and vaccine division (Upper Myanmar) of the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and saw over the laboratory for production of I2 vaccines for New Castle Disease.

After that the minister and party inspected the poultry farms of U Mya Aung and U Aik Tun in Ward-6 in PyinOoLwin and the poultry farm of LFDPE in Zeebingyi.

Later, they minister and party attended to the needs for supply of water from Pabin Village to Zeebingyi poultry farm.


Commander, Minister meet with departmental staff in Shan State (East) 

Yangon, 18 Feb — Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Brig-Gen Khin Zaw and Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing on 15 February arrived Mongphyat District Police Commander’s Office and met with staff families. District police commander reported on tasks being carried out. The commander and the minister gave necessary instructions.

Then, they went to Mongpashio-Kenglat in Tachilek District and inspected the site chosen to construct the main office and staff quarters.

Then, the commander and minister met with departmental officials, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross and Fire Brigades and social organizations, teachers and students. At the meeting, the commander gave instruction on active participation of local people in regional development tasks and agriculture and livestock breeding tasks for development of the region. 

Next, the minister gave instruction on making efforts for the development of the region with added momentum, cooperation of local people to carry out tasks for community peace and tranquillity, and  prevalence of law and order, and welfare of the people, and uplift of Union Spirit. Afterwards, the minister presented cash assistance for the teachers and magazines for schools and USDA. Medicines, medical equipment donated to MMCWA

Yangon, 18 Feb — A ceremony to donate medicines and medical equipment to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held at the hall of the association at the corner of Parami Road and Thanthuma Road, South Okkalapa Township this morning. Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and CEC members and donors. First, wellwisher Dr Kam Kyin Dar donated Nevira Pine tablets and liquid bottles and MEGA Products Co Ltd, on-sight Pregnancy Test and Betadine Vaginal-Gel to the MMCWA. Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe accepted the donation and presented certificates of honour to the donors.  Chairperson Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe spoke words of thanks.


International Trade Course opens     

Yangon, 18 Feb— Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry opened International Trade Course (Program-2) at UMFCCI Training Centre here this morning. UMFCCI President U Win Myint delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Fifty-four trainees are attending the course. Also present at the ceremony were Patron of the Federation U Khin Maung Yi, Dr Mann Thet San, UMFCCI General Secretary U Zaw Min Win, central executive committee members, instructors and guests.

Myanmar Open Golf - 27 Feb to 2 Mar 

Yangon, 18 Feb — Twenty Myanmar players will take part in Myanmar Open golf tourney together with their 137 foreign opponents from 24 countries.

Myanmar will host the international tourney at Yangon Golf Club in Danyingon here from 27 February to 2 March.

The Leading Committee to host the tourney held a meeting at National Indoor Stadium in Thuwunna this afternoon.

Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, General Secretary of Myanmar Golf Federation U Aung Kyi and officials took part in the discussions.
