Secretary-1 inspects progress of construction tasks in Htantabin, Shwepyitha townships
Yangon, 23 Feb — Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt inspected construction tasks in Htantabin and Shwepyitha townships this morning and gave necessary instructions to officials.
At 11.30 am, the Secretary-1, arrived at the construction site of Yangon Western University in Htantabin Township.
At the briefing hall, Minister for Education U Than Aung reported to the Secretary-1 on academic and management matters and Wa Wa Win Construction Managing Director U Shwe Hlaing on progress in construction of lecture halls, the archway of the university, the lecture theatre and the main building of the university.
Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt reported on construction of concrete section and gravel section of Hlinethaya-Htantabin short-cut road.
Then, the Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and inspected progress of work in building the lecture theatre and completion of lecture halls.
Next, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the construction site of Yangon University of Computer Studies Project near No 4 Highway in Shwepyitha Township. They were welcomed there by Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung and departmental officials.
At the briefing hall, Shwekyabyan Construction Managing Director Dr Zaw Tun reported to the Secretary-1 on the location of the university, completion of the main building and lecture halls included in the project, power and water supply, progress of communication and road construction works and future tasks. Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung gave a supplementary report.
After hearing the reports, the Secretary-1 fulfilled the requirements and inspected the scale model of the university and construction works.
Afterwards, the Secretary-1 and party went to the construction site of the Feedstuff Factory of the Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries near No 4 Highway in Shwepyitha Township. The factory can produce 10 tons of feedstuff an hour. The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein and departmental officials.
At the briefing hall, Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein reported on arrangements of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries being made for development of the livestock breeding sector with the aims of ensuring sales of quality feedstuff at reasonable price, distribution of pedigree animals and propagation of livestock breeding and feedstuff production technology, requirements of feedstuff in the entire nation including Ayeyawady, Bago and Yangon Divisions and facts about the Feedstuff Factory.
The Secretary-1 gave necessary instructions and inspected the scale model of the factory.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party saw over progress in building the short-cut road linking Yangon-Hmawby No 4 Highway in Shwepyitha Township and Yangon-Pyay Road in Mingaladon Township by car.
Dry Day inspection teams discharge duties
Yangon, 23 Feb — Chairman of the Dry Day Supervisory Committee Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman’s office Lt-Gen Min Thein and committee members, divided into two groups, supervised the Dry Day inspection teams which were discharging duties here today.
The teams checked Dry Day Pass, driver licence, wheel tax and wearing of departmental uniforms of vehicles of Tatmadaw and departments concerned at the main points of the city from 6 am to 6 pm.
Chairman Lt-Gen Min Thein and committee members, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun and Provost Marshal Maj-Gen Saw Hla supervised the teams.
The inspection teams also checked vehicles violating the traffic rules.
Commander inspects sanitation works for proper flow of water at main drains
Yangon, 23 Feb — Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, this morning inspected sanitation works being carried out for proper flow of water at main drains in Yangon City and wards and left necessary instructions to officials.
At 6.30 am, the commander and the vice-mayor arrived at sanitation tasks being carried out for proper flow of water at the main drain at the corner of Upper Pansodan Street and Daw Thein Tin Street in Mingala Taungnyunt Township. The commander and the vice-mayor were welcomed there by No 4 Military Region Commander Brig-Gen Myo Myint, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and officials of YCDC.
The commander, the vice-mayor and party inspected sanitation works being carried out by workers of YCDC at the main drain along Upper Pansodan Street and flow of water in the main drain in Kandawlay (North) Ward. Head of Engineering Department (Road/Bridge) U Bo Htay of YCDC reported on flow of water from the main drain in Mingala Taungnyunt Township into Pazundaung Creek in Pazundaung Township. The commander gave instructions. He said officials are to supervise the local people not to throw rubbish into the main drain so as to avoid blocking of the drain. Then, the commander and party proceeded to the place at the corner of 3rd Street in Bahan Township and Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and saw over sanitation works being carried out for proper flow of water in Magyidan drain by members of Myanmar Police Force, workers of YCDC, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, Maternal and Child Welfare Association and local people. Officials reported to the commander on condition of the drain and flow of water into the main drain from other drains. After hearing the reports, the commander gave necessary instructions.
Next, the commander and party inspected tasks for proper flow of water in Kamayut Creek which originated from Inya Lake between Kamayut and Hline townships. Members of MPF, YCDC workers, members of USDA, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, MCWA and local people participated in the cleaning tasks.
The commander and party inspected sanitation tasks at the creek and weeding on Myakantha 2nd Street. The commander then gave instructions on systematic throwing of rubbish and cleaning of wards.
MMA (Women's Chapter) gives medical treatments in Gyobingauk
Yangon, 23 Feb — Myanmar Medical Association (Women's Chapter) led by Leading Patron of MMA (Women's Chapter) Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and Chairperson Dr Daw Yi Yi Hlaing, arrived at Gyobingauk in Bago Division (West) this morning to give medical treatment and to give educative talks on medical knowledge.
First, MMA Women Chapter gave educative talks on health at the meeting hall of township Peace and Development Council and Daw Yi Yi Hla made an opening address.
Then, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe gave talks on facts about violence against women and Dr Daw Khin Mon Mon on facts about malaria.
Then, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe accepted cash donations for Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association K 500,000 by wife of Southern Command; K 100,000 each by wife of Thayawady District Peace and Development Council Daw Khin May Aung, U Thaung Myint- Daw Mu Mu of Shweoakka Brokerage, U Pya Gyi-Daw Khin San Yi of Ko Pya Gyi Rice Mill and U Zaw Thein-Daw San San Htay of Aung Myint Myat Rice Mill.
Next, township MCWA Chairperson Daw Tin Nu presented membership applications to Dr Zaw Win, Chairman of Bago Division (West) MCWA.
Then, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and party viewed giving of medical treatment by special medical team at township People's Hospital and MCWA office.
The special medical team comprising specialists, cardiologists, pediatrician, surgeons, obstetric and gynecologists, orthopedic surgeons, eye specialists, practitioners, dentists, anesthetist and doctors and gave treatment to over 3,000 patients.
Booths of Ministry of F&R inspected
Yangon, 23 Feb — Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun, inspected the arrangements to stage the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day commemorative booth at Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this afternoon. The minister then fulfilled the requirements to officials.
DHT Director-General meets with hoteliers in Bagan, Mandalay, PyinOoLwin
Yangon, 23 Feb — Director-General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt on 16 February met with hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs in Bagan-NyaungU region at Bagan Hotel.
At the meeting, he discussed with them matters on improvement of Myanma tourism services and participation of tourists in Maha Thingyan (Myanmar New Year) in Mandalay. Then, he established the hoteliers’ association, Bagan.
The director-general arrived at Popa and inspected Popa Resort Hotel the next day. On 18 February, the director-general met with hoteliers and tourism entrepreneurs and discussed improvement of tourism services in Mandalay. He also set up hoteliers’ association, Mandalay Zone.
He, on 19 February, saw over Nan Myaing, Thiri Myaing and Gandama Myaing hotels in PyinOoLwin. He also set up the hoteliers’ association, PyinOoLwin Zone after meeting with hoteliers there.
Development work in Kachin State inspected
Yangon, 23 Feb — Kachin State Peace and Development Council Chairman Northern Command Commander Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe, arrived at Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao road section mile post No 21/7 on 17 February morning where Superintending Engineer U Than Nyunt Win of Public Works and officials reported on construction of roads at Myitkyina-Tanpe-Mytison (confluence) road section and storage of gravel and tar.
Next, the commander gave instructions on durability of Myitkyina-Myitson road and clearing of weeds and bushes on both sides of the road and attended to the needs. The commander then went to Tanpe Village and inspected Tanpe creek hydel power plant. Officials reported on electric power supply of the plant.
Then, the commander proceeded to the confluence of Maykha and Malikha rivers where officials reported on the tasks carried out for keeping the resorts and bungalows neat and pleasant. The commander gave necessary instructions to officials.
The commander paid homage to the presiding Sayadaw of Aungthitsa monastery at Ngahtaungsan Pagoda and presented offertories.
In the afternoon, the commander met with law officers and judges of Kachin State, districts and townships at Myitkyina city hall.
State Judge U Myat Min and Law Officer U Ze Ya reported to the commander on judicial affairs. The commander gave them necessary instructions.
Yangon, 23 Feb — A ceremony to open self-reliance tarred road linking Hoti, Ywathit and Pawhon villages in Hopong Township in Taunggyi District, Shan State (South), and Taunggyi-Loilem-Kengtung Union Highway was held at the new road on 20 February morning.
At the ceremony, a novice Shin Pawrisa from Rathetaung Hill near Hoti Village who led the local people for building the road and the commander formally opened the road. The commander then inspected the road.
The road is one mile and three furlong long and 13 feet wide. It cost K 24.8 million for the road and 1.5 million for the gate, totalling K 26.3 million.
In the afternoon, the commander went to Kangyi Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Nyaungshwe and paid respects to Presiding Sayadaw of the Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Vimalabhivamsa and supplicated on religious affairs.
Regional development inspected in Lashio
Yangon, 23 Feb—The work coordination meeting of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council was held at the meeting hall of North East Command on 19 February.
Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North East Command Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing, the secretary of the state and council members, departmental officials and chairmen of the district and township Peace and Development Councils attended the meeting.
Commander Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing made a speech on the occasion. Then, Secretary Lt-Col Win Han reported on projects of Shan State (North). Then, departmental officials reported on project tasks to be carried out in the year 2003-2004 and boosting of agriculture sector and the local authorities on regional development tasks being carried out. The commander gave necessary instructions.
Next, Highland Reclamation Project Director of Shan State Agricultural Mechanization Department Lt-Col Myint Thein reported on reclamation of highland farm. Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint presented supplementary reports. The commander attended to the requirements and gave instructions.
On 20 February morning, the commander, together with Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint and departmental personnel, inspected the thriving of 20,000 orange trees cultivated by Kunlon Region Development Co in Naungmon Village in Lashio, and raising of 500 pigs and gave necessary instructions to the officials.
In the afternoon, the commander inspected harvesting of groundnuts at highland reclamation project site, raising of 1,000 pigs, 15,000 layers and 8,000 hybrid cat fishes at the general agriculture and livestock breeding camp (central). The commander also fulfilled the requirements on reports presented by the officials.
Ayeyawady Division Development Affairs Committee meets
Yangon, 23 Feb — Ayeyawady Division Development Affairs Committee held a coordination meeting at Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council office on 21 February.
At the meeting, Director U Ohn Thwin reported on tasks being carried out for development affairs in the division and the executives on their respective tasks in the township of the division.
Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Htay Oo then gave necessary instructions and fulfilled the requirements.
Commander inspects construction tasks in Bago Division
Yangon, 23 Feb — Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Ko Ko, went to the construction site of Kawliya Reservoir Project in DaikU Township yesterday morning.
At the briefing hall, Director U Khin Maung Yu of Construction-1 of Irrigation Department reported to the commander on facts about the project, completion of the main embankment, the spillway and conduits and future tasks.
The commander gave instructions on timely completion of the tasks while meeting the set standard and minimizing loss and wastage. The commander fulfilled the requirements and inspected construction of the main embankment and the spillway.
In the afternoon, the commander arrived at Yenwe Multi-purpose Dam Project in Kyaukdaga Township. Officials reported on construction of earth works, the diversion tunnel and the spillway, building of the hydel power plant and arrangements for generating hydro electricity. The commander left necessary instructions and inspected the construction site.
Afterwards, the commander proceeded to the construction site of Baingda Bridge Project being undertaken by Bridge Special Group-13 of Public Works in Nyaunglebin Township. Assistant Engineer U Myint Lwin reported on construction works, future tasks and requirements. The commander gave necessary instructions.
Then, the commander inspected the construction site and attended to their needs. Baingda Bridge, 300 feet long and 48 feet wide, is four-lane one and it has a five-foot-wide pedestrian way on either side. It can withstand 60-ton loads. The bridge is being built of reinforced concrete.
At 5 pm, the commander reached 100 acres of model summer paddy field being irrigated from the feeder canal of Zaungtu Dam near Phayagyi Village, Bago Township. The commander inspected the paddy field and fulfilled the requirements to officials.
Next, the commander saw over repair of the water pipe linking the feeder canal of Zaungtu Dam and Kali Creek near Phayagyi Village and left necessary instructions to officials.
Baby show, model mother contest held in Hsipaw
The prize presentation for the baby show and model mother contest was held at Naung-an Village Rural Dispensary in Hsipaw Township on 7 February. Officials presented prizes to respective winners.
Fire Fighting Course concluded
The Basic Auxiliary Fire Fighting Course No 7 concluded at the sports ground in Mauklin Village, Gangaw Township, on 1 February. District Police Force Commander Police Maj Thaung Gyi gave a speech. Then, Police Capt Win Lwin presented prizes and certificates of honour to the trainees. Over 150 trainees attended the two-week course.
Repaved road opened in Thanbyuzayat
Self-reliant Myananda repaved road, 960 feet long and 12 feet wide, was opened in Aungzeya Ward, Thanbyuzayat Township, on 11 February. Officials formally opened the road.
Outstanding Railway Police Force members honoured
A ceremony to present certificate of honour and cash prizes to 13 outstanding members of No 9 Company of Railway Police Force was held in conjunction with the ceremony to donate K 100,000 to MCWA branch of the company at Hinthada Railway Police Force Office on 14 February. Company Commander Police Capt Maung Maung presented certificates and cash prizes to the outstanding members and K 100,000 to Chairperson of MCWA of the company Daw Kyin Kyin Aye.
Artesian well opened in Zigon
Zigon Township Development Affairs Committee has sunk 10 tube-wells for implementation of the rural water supply plans. On 5 February, an artesian well was opened in Thawledwin Village. Local authorities formally opened the well.
Paddy purchase depots inspected
Chairman of Hlaingbwe District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Soe Myint Aung inspected Shwegoon and Htilon paddy purchase depots in Hlaingbwe Township on 31 January. The District Chairman then met with local authorities and departmental officials and gave instructions on thriving of summer paddy and growing of Thitseint (Belleric myrobalan) and pepper saplings.
Soccer tournament held in Kanyutkwin
The third soccer tournament of Kanyutkwin was opened at the sports grounds in Kanyutkwin, Phyu Township, on 6 February. Altogether 20 teams are taking part in the tournament.
5,000 lights offered to Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda
Co-organized by Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda Board of Trustees and Hindu families of Yangon, the cash donation and 5,000 lights offering ceremony was held at the pagoda on 16 February. Members of the Sangha and officials offered lights. Then, the pagoda board of trustees accepted K 150,000 for all-round renovation of the pagoda donated by U Kyaw Win-Daw Cho Cho and family of Bayintnaung Market; K 51,000 by U Maung Thein and family (Myanmar Thein Co); and K 51,000 by Hindu 5,000 Lights Group.
Repaved road opened in Ingapu
Built by Ingapu Township Development Affairs Committee, Kanthaya repaved road was put back into service at the road in Ingapu Township on 4 February. The road is 900 feet long and 12 feet wide.
Commerce minister welcomes Malaysian minister
Yangon, 23 Feb— The Malaysian delegation led by Minister of Primary Industries of Malaysia Honourable Dato Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik arrived here by air this afternoon. Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Pyi Sone together with Malaysian Ambassador Mr Dato Cheah Sam-Kips and officials welcomed the guests at Yangon International Airport.
Chinese sports delegation arrives
Yangon, 23 Feb — For coordinating friendly sports events between Myanmar and China, a Chinese goodwill delegation led by Vice-Chairman of State Sports General Bureau and President of International Wushu Federation Mr Li Zhijian arrived here by air this afternoon.
President of International Wushu Federation Mr Li Zhijian and party called on Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint for Sports at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna at 4 pm today.
Then, athletes of Myanmar Chinlon Federation and Myanmar Wushu Federation demonstrated sports skills to the goodwill delegation.
