Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt looks into development tasks of Putao region in Kachin State    

Yangon, 3 March — State Peace and Development Council Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt today looked into the development  tasks being carried out in Putao region,  Putao District, Kachin State.

General Khin Nyunt, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint, the ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), the deputy ministers, senior military officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office  and departmental heads, left here by Myanma Airways for Myitkyina and arrived there at 9.40 am today.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed at Myitkyina Airport by Kachin State Peace and Development Council Chairman Northern Command Commander Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe, Myitkyina Air Base Commander Brig-Gen Bo Kyi, members of Kachin State, District  and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental staff, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, traditional cultural group members and local people.

The General and party together with Commander Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe then arrived at Putao Airport at 10.30 am. At the airport, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Deputy Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen San Tun, departmental staff, cultural group members and local people welcomed the General and party.

The Secretary-1 and party arrived at Mulashedi Village guest house near Mulashedi Suspension Bridge in Mulashedi Village, Putao Township where members of Lisu national and Rawon national dance troupes welcomed them. The Secretary-1 and party looked around the scenic beauty of the bridge, Mula Creek near the village and its environs, and gave necessary instructions to the officials.

Afterwards, the General  and party viewed the traditional items sold at the shops of Rawon, Lisu, Khamtishan  and Jaingphaw nationals.  They then inspected development of Putao Township by car. They arrived at the office of the peak of Khakaborazi National Garden and the museum on preservation of natural environment. Head U Thein Aung and service personnel welcomed them.

The Secretary-1 viewed the display of domestic orchid plants. He inspected domestic orchid plants and flowers, preservation of natural environs and flora and fauna, and plans for designation of related natural conservation region in northern part of Myanmar. Officials concerned conducted him around there.

On arrival at the Khakaborazi guest house, the General enjoyed the Myanma natural beauty and snow-capped mountain ranges with the help of binoculars from the upstairs of the guest house. Then, he gave necessary instructions and fulfilled the requirements for development of Putao region and preservation of natural beauty.  In the afternoon, the Secretary-1 and party left Putao for Myitkyina Airport by Myanma Airways and arrived there at 2 pm. They arrived back here in the evening.



Thaphanseik water pumping project inspected 

Yangon, 3 March — Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, yesterday arrived at Thaphanseik water pumping project and inspected lifting of water from Ayeyawady River.

The minister inspected the main canel, laying bricks, situation for water pumping, earth works in water pumping project phase-2. Then, officials concerned reported on tasks of water supply to 7,200 acres of land  to the minister. The minister  gave instructions on cultivation of  crops, cultivation of long staple cotton and pilot cultivation of 500 acres of long staple cotton. Next, the minister and party inspected the chosen site for lifting water from the Ayeyawady river.

Commander inspects Yangon Division vegetable cultivation and poultry farm special zone in Hmawby Township   

Yangon, 3 March— Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspected Yangon Division vegetable cultivation and poultry farm special zone near Nyaunghnapin Village in Hmawby Township this morning.

The commander and party inspected paving of road to the special zone. Chairman Lt-Col San Matu and officials reported on paving of the road. The commander then gave instructions.

The commander and party arrived at the vegetable cultivation and poultry farm special zone-1.

Officials reported to the commander on cultivation of vegetables.  The commander then gave instructions.

The commander and party went to the poultry farm of U Sai Saw Lwin in special zone-2 and inspected raising of layers at the farm.

The commander inspected cultivation of vegetables in the special-zone.

The commander arrived at Zu Zon Zar technological research and scientific production camp of Zu Zon Zar International Co Ltd. U Zu Zon Zar reported on efforts for cultivation of vegetables.

The commander went to the briefing hall of special zone-3.

Special zone-1 in-charge Manager of Yangon Division Myanma Agriculture Service U Aung Hsan, Deputy Commissioner U Thein Naing of Yangon North District General Administration Department and special zone-3 in-charge Head of Yangon Division Settlement and Land Records Department U Naing Win reported on land preparations, vegetable cultivation and poultry farming.

Director of Yangon Division Irrigation Department U Kyaw Thein reported on irrigation from Ngamoeyeik Dam and Kalihtaw Dam, digging of canals, Commissioner U Hla Soe on construction of roads to the special zones, tasks to be undertaken, executive officer of Hlegu Township Development Affairs Committee U Myo Kyaw Latt on condition of roads leading to the special zones from Hlegu Township and national entrepreneurs on cultivation of vegetables, raising of layers and breeding of fish.

In meeting with national agriculture and livestock breeding entrepreneurs, the commander said the government built Kalihtaw Dam spending a large sum of money for agriculture and livestock breeding in special zones. It also provided facilities such as irrigation, better transport and power supply. The commander called for realization of the
objectives of the special zones.

The ministries and the entrepreneurs grew 4,725 acres of vegetables and raised 828,198 hens and layers this year.

A total of over 650,000 hens were sold and over 1,090,000 fishes were bred in over 500 acres of fish ponds.


Commander inspects barracks of Bandoola Column and Hsinbyushin Column

Yangon, 3 March—Chairman of the Management Committee for Organizing the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe this afternoon inspected the barracks at Defence Services Orthopedic Hospital (500 Bed), where Bandoola column, which will take part in the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day parade, is accommodated.

First at 2 pm, the commander arrived at the hospital in Mingaladon Township, where he was welcomed by Parade Commander Brig-Gen Than Htay and officials.

At the briefing hall, Commander of Bandoola Column Col Win Swe reported on accommodation of officers and other ranks included in the company, drill, and meals served to the commander who attended to the needs.

Then, the commander inspected communication station, library and bookstall of Directorate of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare, the welfare shops for the column, barracks, mess, bathrooms and toilets and gave necessary instructions.

Then, the commander proceeded to Mingaladon Station, where Hsinbyushin Column which will take part in the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day parade, is accommodated.

At the briefing hall, Column Commander Col Min Zaw reported on accommodation of the column and company, the welfare shops, practising of parade drill by columns and companies.

Then, the commander inspected the drill of the column, barracks, kitchen and mess, bathrooms, toilets and gave necessary instructions.

Afterwards, the commander and party viewed round the welfare shops for the column and left instructions to officials.


Parade columns continue drill practice

Yangon, 3 March — The parade columns which will take part in the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day parade continued their drill practice today at Resistance Park.

Vice-Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Aung Kyi and senior military officers inspected the  drills.

Under the command of Parade Commander Brig-Gen Than Htay, the columns-Anawrahta, Kyan-sittha, Bayintnaung, Nawade, Aungzeya, Hsin-bushin, Bandoola, Mya-wady and Aung San Columns-practised the drills.


Oral Health Care Multiplier Courses open    

Yangon, 3 Feb — The Oral Health Care Multiplier Course for rural people, organized by Taninthayi Division Union Solidarity and Development Association and Oral Health Unit of Health Department, was opened at Pale Yadana Hall in Myeik on 24 February morning, attended by division/district/township level departmental heads, Taninthayi Division USDA executives and members, Women’s Affairs and Maternal and Child Welfare Association members, invited guests and trainees totalling over 300.

Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Chairman Coastal Region Command Commander Brig-Gen Tha Aye made an opening speech.

Then, Deputy Director Dr Kyaw Nyunt of Oral Health Department explained the project. He then handed over the medical equipment and medicine, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes to Taninthayi Division Health Department Dr Swe Win.

Afterwards, the commander and those present looked around the oral health care educative booth. Altogether 35 trainees are attending the course.

Similarly, the oral health care course for rural people was opened at Palaw Township in the division on 27 February morning. Dr Kyaw Nyunt presented the medical equipment and medicine, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes to the Township Health Officer.


Health Minister inspects kidney transplant

Yangon, 3 March—Minister for Health Professor Dr Kyaw Myint, accompanied by officials concerned, inspected kidney transplant being carried out at the New Yangon General Hospital this morning.

The minister inspected the transplant of kidney from wellwisher U Sa Nan Aung, brother of patient U Sa San Aung, into the patient and fulfilled the needs.

Then, the minister inspected the direct teaching of kidney transplant process by means of Telemedicine being conducted at the Medical Science Department.

Professors, faculty members, post-graduate students and final year students of the institutes of medicine
observed the direct teaching.

The minister said that there was no such direct teaching in the past, adding that now there emerged such direct teaching as the teaching system has been duly improved. The Ministry of Health in cooperation with the   Ministry of Science and Technology has been making efforts for development of Myan-mar Medical Science after laying down the National Educa-tion Promotion Special Four-Year Project (Health Sector).


Construction tasks inspected in Ayeyawady Division  

Yangon, 3 Feb — Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun together with officials inspected construction of Dedaye-Phyapon road for smooth transportation in open season yesterday morning.

Then, the minister arrived at the construction site for Phyapon Bridge in Phyapon. He heard reports by Deputy Superintending Engineer U Khin Maung Se of Bridge Construction Special Group-7 on choosing of the site for the bridge after frequent surveys, by Phyapon District Peace and Development Council Chairman on the chosen site for the bridge. Then, the minister and party inspected repair of Phyapon-Kyaiklat road.

This morning, the minister looked into construction tasks for Kyaiklat-Maubin road and gave instructions on maintenance of Maubin Bridge. He also inspected construction tasks for Maubin-Twantay road and Khattiya Bailey bridge on the road, Malatto-Mezali road, Maubin-Hsamalauk road, Hsama-lauk-Yangon road section of Yangon-Pathein road.


Third four-monthly coord meeting of SWRR coordinated

Yangon, 3 March — A third four-monthly coordination meeting for 2002 of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement was held at Thida hall of Mayangon Fire Services Training School this morning with an address by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Sein Htwa.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win, Officer on Special Duty Brig-Gen Thura Sein Thaung, Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women’s Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Daw May May Yi, directors-general of the departments under the ministry, deputy directors-general, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, heads of departments of the states and divisions, heads of departments in Yangon Division and staffs.

After the minister made an opening speech, it came to a close.

Then, Fire Services Department of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held its third four-monthly coordination meeting at the hall of the ministry. Present at the meeting were the Director-General of Fire Services Department, the Deputy Director-General, the Principal of Central Fire Services Training School, officers of the Fire Services Department (Head office) and Heads of Fire Services Department of the states and divisions.

The Deputy Director-General of Fire Services Department made a speech at the meeting and the Principal of Central Fire Services Training School and Heads of Fire Services Department of the states and divisions put forward measures being taken by their departments and units.

The third four-monthly coordination meetings for 2002 of the respective departments under the ministry will be held tomorrow.


USDA CEC member tours Magway Division

Yangon, 3 March — Central Executive Committee member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, on 1 March afternoon arrived at Thayettaw Village Basic Education Primary School in Pakokku Township, Magway Division, and discussed tasks being undertaken for opening of post primary school  and attended to the needs.

Then, the CEC member attended the ceremony to submit USDA membership applications held at the Basic Education High School, Myitche Village-tract, and accepted 2,133 membership applications. He then fulfilled the requirements of the multi-media rooms at the BEHS.

Afterwards, U Soe Tha went to Pyi-ai Village BEPS and gave necessary assistance for construction of a new school buildings  there and in Yelalay Village.

In the evening, he met with secretaries and executives of township USDAs in Pakokku District and gave  instructions.

The CEC member also met with staff of the Planing Department, Seikphyu Township, yesterday morning. Afterwards, he proceeded to Seikphyu Township USDA new building construction site and attended to the needs.  


F & R Minister inspects Pension Department 

Yangon, 3 March — Minister for Finance & Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun, together with Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun, inspected the Pension Department in Kyauktada Township this afternoon.

The minister then met with responsible officials and urged them to discharge duties benevolently, to train the staff to be skilful and to make staff welfare matters systematically.

Director-General of the Pension Department U Bo Than and officials concerned explained  duties and tasks of the department to the minister.


Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club holds annual general meeting     

Yangon, 3 March — Myanmar Foreign Corres-pondents Club held annual general meeting at Kandawgyi Palace Hotel this evening.

At the meeting, President U Sao Kai Hpa read out the annual report and Secretary U Nyunt Tin financial report. Members of the club unanimously elected executives for the year 2003-2004. They are as follows;

U Hla Htwe (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) was elected as Patron of Myanmar Foreign Correspondents Club, U Sao Kai Hpa (Mainichi) as President, U Khin Maung Myint (NHK) as Vice-President, U Nyunt Tin (Fuji TV) as Secretary, U Aung Hla Tun (Reuters) as Joint-Secretary, U Tin Maung Aye (Asahi) as Treasurer, U Min Zaw (Tokyo Shimbun) as Auditor.

After the meeting, dinner was hosted to those present. It was also attended by Brig-Gen Than Tun, Brig-Gen Thein Swe, Col Tin Oo and officials of Office of Chief of Military Intelligence, the Managing Director of News and Periodical Enterprise of the Ministry of Information and officials.

Myanmar delegation arrives back

Yangon, 3 March —  Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar U Win Aung arrived back here by air this evening after paying an official visit to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Myanmar delegation paid an official visit to the People's Republic of Bangladesh at the invitation of Mr M Morshed Khan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Myanmar delegation was welcomed back at the Yangon International Airport by U Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Directors-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr A B Manjoor Rahim, Ambassador of the Embassy of  the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Delegation members Director General of the Department of Myanmar Mission Abroad U Ko Ko Kyaw and Director of the Political
Department U Ye Myint also returned together with the Minister.

Minister U Win Aung and party were welcomed at Dhaka Zia International Airport in Bangladesh yesterday by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Reaz Rahman, Director- General of Southeast Asia Department of the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry Mr A Rahman, Ambassador of Myanmar to Bangladesh U Ohn Thwin and Military Attache Col Han Tint and staff of the Myanmar Embassy.

Minister U Win Aung, accopanied by Ambassador U Ohn Thwin and U Ko Ko Kyaw paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia at the Prime Minister’s Office. Then Minister U Win Aung and party called on Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Mr M Morshed Khan at the latter’s office. Later in the evening, Bangladesh Home Minister Mr Altaf Hossain Chowdhury called on Minister U Win Aung at the State Guest House Padma.

Minister U Win Aung and party left Dhaka Zia International Airport for Yangon on 3 March. They were seen off at Dhaka Zia International Airport by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Reaz Rahman, Director General of Southeast Asia Department of the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry Mr A Rahman, Ambassador of Myanmar to Bangladesh U Ohn Thwin and Military Attache Col Han Tint and staff of the Myanmar Embassy.

During the cordial meetings, Minister U Win Aung and Bagladesh leaders discussed bilateral matters as well as trade, commerce and economic cooperation between the two countries.


Japanese guests call on Minister 

Yangon, 3 March — Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, Mr Kiyoyoshi Katagiri and party at his office this morning.

Director-General of the Directorate of Industries U Tin Hlaing, Managing Director of the Myanma  Ceramics Industries Col Soe Yi and General Manager U Aye Mauk and responsible officials were also present  on the occasion.


Tuesday Club members visit Mogok, Shan State (North)

Yangon, 3 March —  The 40-member study group comprising members of Tuesday Club who are making investment in Myanmar and Professor Robert Taylor from London, led by Col Hla Min of the Ministry of Defence, toured Mogok in Mandalay Division and Laukkai, Muse and Kaungkha regions  in Shan State (North) on 28 February  and arrived back here today.

During their tour, they studied anti-narcotic drugs and opium substitute crops projects, border trade and development in the regions. Local authorities and national race leaders replied to their queries and exchanged views with
them.

Tuesday Club members also made cash donations for regional development.


Myanmar delegation arrives back

Yangon, 3 March — A delegation led by Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, after attending Bangkok Gem Emporium 2003 held from 25 February   to 2 March,  arrived   back here yesterday evening.

Tiger Myanmar Amateur Open Golf  Championship 2003 to be held from 10-13 March at Yangon Golf Club

Yangon, 3 March — Tiger Myanmar Amateur Open Golf Championship 2003 will be held from 10 to 13 March 2003 at Yangon Golf Club. A press briefing on Tiger Myanmar Amateur Open Golf Championship 2003 organized by Myanmar Golf Federation with the sponsorship of Tiger Beer was held at the  Grand Plaza Parkroyal Hotel (Sofitel Hotel), here this afternoon.

Secretary of Myanmar Professional Golfers’ Association, Managing Director of Han Golf Masters Pte, Ltd U Chan Han gave a preliminary explanation on the championship.

Maj-Gen Win Hlaing, President of Myanmar Golf Federation thanked the Tiger Beer for contributing to  the event, which is aiming at blooming of the future golfing stars of Myanmar.  He said that local and foreign golfers are invited to take part in this championship and asked the journalists to assist the championship.

General Manager Mr David Teng of Myanmar Brewery Ltd said that Tiger Beer has been providing Myanmar’s young talents a stage to showcase their talent and prepare them for more grueling tournaments abroad. He said the Tiger Myanmar Open, like any other Amateur Open, is a gateway for the inspired talent of tomorrow. He added that it is a highly intene and compettive event which prepares the individual both physically and mentally for the demands of golf at a higher level.

He said through the Tiger Myanmar  Amateur Open, Tiger is proud to be associated with a tournament with a rich history and can claim to have produced some of Myanmar’s and Asia’s best players. Past Champions Kyi Hla Han and Zaw Moe are only 2 of the more illustrious players whose names are etched onto the Amateur Cup.

The President of Myanmar Golf Federation and officials then answered the queries raised by journalists.

Managing Director U Tin Kha of the News and Periodicals Enterprise, journalists, members of Han Golf Masters Pte, Ltd and invited guests attended the press briefing.

This is the fourth year in which Tiger Beer has been involved with the Myanmar Amateur Open.


MNOC Chairman’s bowl soccer

Yangon, 3 March — Myanmar National Olympic Council Chairman’s Bowl open soccer tournament continued at the sports field of the Youth Training Camp (Thuwunna) at 3.30 pm today.

In today’s match of group-A, the Ministry of Energy team beat the Ministry of Construction team 1-0, and the best player award went to Zaw Htet Aung of the Ministry of Energy.
