State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends message of congratulations to President of Cyprus

Yangon, 7 March — Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of congratulations to His Excellency Mr Tassos Papadopoulos, President of the Republic of Cyprus, who has been elected at the recent Presidential election of Cyprus.


Secretary-1 inspects development of Muse region

Yangon, 7 March — Chairman of the Working Committee for Progress of Border Areas and National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council General Khin Nyunt inspected development of Muse region, Muse District, northern Shan State, today.

Accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Aung Htwe, ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), deputy ministers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and heads of department, the Secretary-1 left here by air for Lashio in northern Shan State in the morning.

On arrival at Lashio Airport at 10.15 am, the Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by Chairman of  Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council  Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing,  Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint, military  officers, local authorities, officials, traditional  dance troupes and local ethnic races.

They then helicoptered to Muse where they were welcomed by Col San Shwe Tha of the local station,  Chairman of Muse District Peace and Development  Council Lt-Col Soe Win, and others.

At a meeting at Shweli Yadana Guest House, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing briefed them on regional  development. The ministers gave supplementary reports  sector-wise.

Genereal Khin Nyunt looked into the requirements,  saying that the arrivals and departures at the border  point and border security should be checked and  supervised in accordance with the prescribed rules.  

The Secretary-1 and party then went round the town, inspecting the regional development undertakings.

At Shwenandaw Tour Centre, officials conducted the Secretary-1 and party round the building. During  inspection of the Muse ring road tarring project, Secretary-1 General Khin Nyunt gave instructions. The  project was being implemented by Muse Township Development Affairs Committee.

At the modern sports grounds project site, an official reported to the Secretary-1 and party on the area of  the grounds and the location of the buildings with the help of maps and charts. The commander gave a  supplementary report.

They went back to Lashio Airport by helicopter in the afternoon, and then arrived back here by Tatmadaw aircraft in the evening.

A & I Minister inspects factories in Mingaladon

Yangon, 7 March — Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin inspected production process at the Fan Belt Factory of the Myanma Perennial Crops Enterprise at Pyinmabin Industrial Zone in Mingaladon Township this morning.

Together with officials, the minister viewed production of four kinds of 3,000 fan belts, successful pilot production of crawler belts for combine harvesters to be produced in the Farm Machinery Factory of the Agricultural Mechanization Department in Ingon Village near Kyaukse, and production of import-substitute goods and finished products with the use of by-products. Managing Director of the MPCE  U Myint Oo and the factory manager conducted the minister round the factory.

Yangon,Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the factory would produce combined harvesters, reapers and power tillers in the very near future. In this process, he stressed the need to meet the targets in production of spare parts and crawler belts, to fulfil the local requirements of import-substitute fan belts, to carry out staff welfare and fire prevention tasks, and to produce quality products through research in phases.

Yangon,Then, the minister saw over the Rubber Glove Factory of MPCE in Pyinmabin. At the briefing hall, the factory manager reported on annual production and distribution of gloves and maintenance of the quality. The minister gave necessary instructions.


Minister inspects Exhibition booth

Yangon, 7 Mar —  Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe arrived at Defence Services Historical Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this morning and inspected booths of the Ministry of Cooperatives displayed at Armed Forces Day Booth.

The minister was conducted round there by Director-General of Cooperative Department U Soe Win, Director-General of Cottage Industries Department U Sein Than, Managing Director of Cooperative Exports and Imports Enterprise Daw Khin Swe Soe and officials. He gave necessary instructions to them.

The booth of the ministry displays present activities of cooperatives, cooperative sector in rural economic development, earlier activities of  cooperatives, activities of international cooperatives, cooperative colleges and training centres, courses conducted by Myanmar Institute of Lacquerware and training centres, commodity production, services, products of three trade sectors,  cooperative factories and workshops, hospitals and clinics, cooperative banks, local and foreign trade fairs, market festivals, exports and imports, chart of cooperation in international cooperatives, documentary photos and nation-building  endeavors.



English Proficiency Course concludes

Yangon, 7 March —The concluding ceremony of the English Proficiency Course (2/2002) organized by  the Ministry of Industry-1 was held at the training hall of the ministry this morning.

First, Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, delivered a speech and presented prizes to first, second and third prize winners. On behalf of the trainees, the group leader accepted completion certificates presented by the minister.

The course was attended by 38 trainees and it started on 5 November 2002.



Construction Minister attends prize presentation of BEHSs  

Yangon, 7 March — Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Myint  Thein and officials, attended the prize presentation of the Basic Education High School in Myittha and presented prizes to distinction winners in 2002 matriculation examination. The minister made a speech  on the occasion. Afterwards, the minister and party
inspected the completion of Myittha-Minsu-Tansoe-Kyaukse short-cut.

Then, the minister attended the prize presentation of  No 3 BEHS in Kyaukse and presented prizes  to the  distinction winners in 2002 matriculation examination.

Later, the minister accepted K 5.1 million donated for renovation of ancient Shwetaunghtee Pagoda.



City Farm and Resort Centre in Taikkyi inspected

Yangon, 7 March — Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay inspected the City Farm and  Resort Centre being undertaken by YCDC in Uto Region, Taikkyi Township, this morning.

The mayor inspected the Uto Golf Resort and Inzu Lake  and gave instructions on planting of shady and  flowering trees, cultivation of crops, breeding fish, conservation of wildlife and ensuring satisfaction of  the holiday-makers at the centre.

Afterwards, the mayor inspected the pig breeding farm, progress in construction of 10 miles long and 40 feet  wide earth road linking Uto Aphyauk Road and Takhwa Village, and arrangements for building a reinforced  concrete bridge on the road and left necessary instructions.



Yangon Division USDA holds coordination meeting

Yangon, 7 March — Monthly work coordination meeting of  the executives of  township, district and division  Union Solidarity and Development Associations in  Yangon Division was held at the meeting hall of Yangon  Division USDA office in Bahan Township this morning.  

Patron of Yangon Division USDA Chairman of Yangon  Division Peace and Development Council Commander of  Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe made a speech.

In his speech, the commander stressed the importance of correct conviction and attitude in realizing the  five objectives of the association and urged members of USDA to strive for the development of the nation to the best of their ability and take necessary measures for consolidation of the association, promotion of the  competence of members and conducting executive
management multiplier courses and summer cultural courses.

Afterwards, Yangon Division In-charge Central Executive Committee Member of USDA Col Maung Pa urged  the USDA members to organize the people by contributing towards the community service.



Measures for ensuring smooth and secure transportation coordinated 

Yangon, 7 March — The work coordination meeting of Yangon Division Supervisory Committee for Ensuring  Smooth and Secure Transportation took place at the  meeting hall of Yangon Command this afternoon.  

Chairman of the committee Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe made an address on the occasion.

Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe highlighted the tasks to be carried out by the committee members for ensuring smooth and secure transportation for the people travelling in Yangon and to various parts of the country.

Next, the committee members and chairmen of the bus lines reported on tasks being carried out to abide by  the traffic rules.

The commander gave necessary instructions.



Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspects
drills of military parade columns

Yangon, 7 March — Military parade columns which will  take part in the 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day  Parade continued their drills at the Resistance Park on U Wisara Road here today.

Columns practising drills under the command of Parade  Commander Brig-Gen Than Htay and Reserve Parade  Commander Brig-Gen Myint Aung are the Anawrahta Column under the command of Column Commander Col Myint Han,  the Kyansittha Column under the command of Column Commander Col Tha Aung, the Bayintnaung Column under  the command of Column Commander Col Win Htay, the  Nawade Column under the command of Column Commander  Captain Myint Thein (Navy), the Aung Zeya Column under  the command of Column Commander Col Thein Hlaing, the  Hsinphyushin Column under the command of Column Commander Col Min Zaw, the Bandoola Column under the command of Column Commander Col Win Swe, the Myawady column under the command of Column Commander Col Myo  Win and the Aung San Column under the command of Column Commander Col Hla Moe.

Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe inspects Nawaday column  Yangon, 7 March — Chairman of the Management Committee
for Observance of 58th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe this  morning inspected barracks of the Nawaday column at  Ayeyawady Naval Regional Command Headquarters.  The  Nawaday Column will take part in the Armed Forces Day  Parade.

On arrival  at the Ayeyawady Naval Regional Command  Headquarters, the commander was welcomed by Parade Commander Brig-Gen Than Htay, No 4 Military Region Commander Brig-Gen Myo Myint and Column Commander Col Myint Thein and senior military officers.

Then, at the briefing hall, Column Commander Col Myint  Thein reported on tasks being carried out to Commander  Maj-Gen Myint Swe.

Next, the commander inspected kitchens, hostels, dinning hall of the parade companies, shops and  communication centres opened by Directorate of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare of the Ministry of  Defence. The commander was conducted round by Nawaday  Column Commander Col Myint Thein.

Afterwards, the commnader gave instructions on providing wholesome food, effective medical treatment  and entertainment matters and left necessary  instructions to officers of the columns.



New Myit-nge Bridge to be constructed

Yangon, 7 March — Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint arrived at the site chosen for  construction of new Myit-nge Bridge near milepost No  (421/3) on Yangon-Mandalay Highway on 5 March.

At the briefing hall, Senior Engineer in charge U Soe Min reported to the commander on facts about the  Myitnge Bridge being used and the new one to be  constructed and future plans.

Then, the commander inspected the preparations for construction of the new bridge and left necessary  instructions.



Tailoring courses of MMCWA conclude

Yangon, 7 March — Advanced Tailoring Course (1/2003) and Tailoring Course (26/2003) organized by Myanmar  Maternal and Child Welfare Association concluded at the multi-purpose building of MMCWA in South Okkalapa Township this morning.

Chairperson of MMCWA Prof Daw Kyu Kyu Swe spoke on the  occasion and presented prizes to the winners. The  trainees of the courses presented gifts for the  domestic science training school of MMCWA to an  official of the association  and paid respects  to the  chairperson, central executive committee members,  patrons of the supervisory committee and course instructors. Tailoring Course (27/2003) was also opened in conjunction with the conclusion of the  courses. MMCWA conducts tailoring courses bimonthly.

International Relations

Chartered flight Air 2000 leaves

Yangon, 7 March — Under the supervision of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, sponsorship of the  Ministry of Transport and arrangement of Adventure  Myanmar Travels and Tours Co Ltd and New Horizons  Travels and Tours Co Ltd, a Chartered flight Air 2000,  arrived here with 64 American tourists and 27 crew on  board on 4 March, left Yangon International Airport  for Vararasi, India, this morning.

The tourists were seen off at the airport by officials  of the Myanma Tourism Services, Execut-ive Director U  Aung Myo Min Din of Adventure Myanmar Travels and  Tours Co Ltd and staff.



Health Minister receives WHO officer

Yangon, 7 Mar — Minister for Health Prof Dr Kyaw Myint received the delegation led by Executive Director Dr. Nils E Billo  of International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease of WHO (Headquarters),  in Geneva, Switzerland at the meeting hall of the  Ministry of Health on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha Road, Dagon  Township at 2 pm today. Present at the call were directors-general of the ministry and responsible personnel.


Chinese delegation leaves

Yangon, 7 March — The seven-member goodwill delegation led by Senior Counsellor of Chinese Association for  International Understanding (CAFIU) Mr Wang Jiarui, after visiting Myanmar at the invitation of the Union  Solidarity and Development Association, left here by  air this morning.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by  CEC member of USDA U Than Shwe, officials of USDA (headquarters) office and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Li Jinjun.

Lashio District Football Team wins Championship

Yangon, 7 March — The prize presentation ceremony of  the Shan State (North) women’s sports organization  patron’s bowl inter district women’s senior level  football match was held at the Union sports grounds in  Lashio on 4 March.

The commander and those present watched the final match of the Lashio district team and the Kyaukme district team.

After the final match, Patron of Shan State (North) Women's Sports Organization wife of the commander Daw  Khin Thant Sin presented the championship to Lashio District Organization which stood first in the  tournament and, officials other prizes to respective teams.



Tatmadaw Volleyball Tournament ends


Yangon, 7 March — The final matches and prize-distribution ceremony for the Year 2002-2003  Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services’ Trophy Volleyball Tournament (Army, Navy and Air) took place  at Pyiphyozarni Gymnasium at Shwenattaung, Mawla-myine, on 4 March morning. It was attended by  Commander of South-East Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint  Aung.

In the final matches, Yangon Division team met  Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office team in the women’s  event and Yangon Command team played against Central  Command team in the men’s event.


After the matches, officials presented prizes and  individual prizes for men’s and women’s beach  volleyball tournament and volleyball tournament to the  prizing winning teams and prize-winners. Then, Daw  Than Than Nwe, wife of the commander, and the deputy commander presented best player prizes to respective  winners.

Afterwards, the commander presented championship  shields for beach volleyball tourney to  Commander-in-Chief (Air)’s Offices team (women) and  Yangon Command team (men) and championship shields for  volleyball tourney to Yangon Command team (women) and  Central Command team (men).  




Drug

Raw Opium seized in Mansi

Yangon, 7 March — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Bhamo Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 8 February 2003, searched Law Yu Kyon’s house at Panse village in Mansi and seized 2 bags of raw opium weighing 3 kilos.

Action is being taken against Law Yu Kyon, son of U Law Kyon Hon under Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Lwege Police Station.
