Lt-Gen Maung Bo attends opening of rural development station hospital in Bilin, children's ward of Mawlamyine General Hospital
Yangon, 31 March - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence accompanied by officials from the State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental heads left here on 29 March morning.
On arrival at the Sittoung Bridge in Mon State, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party were welcomed by Mon State Peace and Development Council Chairman South-East Command Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and departmental officials.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo, accompanied by the commander and officials, visited Hsaketha Maha Dhatuwun Kyaikhtihsaung Hsandaw-shin pagoda at Zokthok Model Village in Bilin Township, Mon State and paid homage to the pagoda. Lt-Gen Maung Bo attended the ceremony to honour Taikoak Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Naginda of Kyaikhtihsaung Phayagyi Monastery held by Kyaikhtihsaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pañnadipa at the hall in the pagoda precinct.
Present on the occasion were Bilin Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Chairman Leikkhon Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriya and Sayadaws from the monasteries in Bilin Township, Minister for Health Prof Dr Kyaw Myint and departmental heads, chairmen of Thaton District and Bilin Township Peace and Development Council and members, donors and disciples.
The ceremony was opened with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa. Bilin Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Chairman Leikkhon Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriya delivered an Ovada. Taikoak Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Naginda administered the Nine Precepts.
Member of Bilin Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Sagaing Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sundara read the biography of Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Naginda.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo, the commander, the minister and wellwishers presented offertories to the Sayadaws. Then, the Kyaikhtihsaung Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits gained. The ceremony came to a close with three-time recitation of Buddha Sasanam Ciram Titthatu.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party arrived at Daukyat Village in the township and attended the opening of rural development station hospital. Wellwisher Sayadaw Bhaddanta Candavamsa of Sasana Ransi monastery in Singapore, who is a native of Khemauk Village in Daukyat Village-tract, and his disciples, Mon State, district and township Peace and Development Council chairmen and members, USDA members, departmental officials, members of Auxiliary Fire Brigade, nurses, local people and dance and band troupes.
Wellwisher Bhaddanta Candavamsa, Mon State Peace and Development Council Chairman South-East Command Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and Minister Prof Dr Kyaw Myint formally opened the Daukyat rural development station hospital. Lt-Gen Maung Bo formally opened the signboard of the station hospital and Wellwisher Sayadaw Bhaddanta Candavamsa the stone inscription of the station hospital.
Then, the ceremony to hand over the station hospital to the Ministry of Health and set up medical funds was held at the hall of the station hospital. The wellwisher explained the purpose of the donation and handed the documents related to the hospital to the minister. Wellwishers presented K 1,480,000 for medical funds to Mon State Health Department Head Dr Hla Myint.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo, the commander, the minister and party were presented with the commemorative pennants by Bilin Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Tun Oo. After the ceremony, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party looked around the station hospital and the two-storey delivery and surgical building which is under construction.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo said in accordance with the guidance of the Head of State, at the time when the five rural development tasks are being implemented with might and main, donation of a new rural development station hospital is of benefit to rural health development. Local people are to strive for emergence of such hospitals and dispensaries. Health care services for local people are to be rendered effectively by making use of the station hospital and all are to strive for durability of the hospital, he said.
The newly-opened station hospital was constructed starting on 8 January 2002. the one-storey building is 100 feet in length, 50 feet in width and has delivery room, operation theatre, store room, X-ray room and staff housing. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Candavamsa of Sasana Ransi monastery in Singapore and disciples spent K 130 million on it.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party went to Mawlamyine in Mon State by boat, and attended the opening of new paediatric ward at Mon State General Hospital.
Present at the opening ceremony were departmental officials, specialists, the medical superintendent, doctors and nurses, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, band troupe, pom pom troupe, teachers, students and guests.
Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint formally opened the ward by cutting a ribbon.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo then formally unveiled the signboard of the ward and viewed round the ward together with officials.
In meeting with officials at the hospital, Lt-Gen Maung Bo said the government is implementing border region development project, 24 development regions project and five rural development tasks. Today's opening of the paediatric ward will contribute much towards the promotion of public health care services.
It is important that the public in cooperation with the government need to actively participate in the nation building tasks, he added.
Then, cash donation ceremony for the paediatric ward followed, and Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung made a speech.
Senior Engineer U Win Tin of Public Works in Mawlamyine District presented documents related to the ward to Superintendent Dr Maung Maung Gyi.
The donations included K 10 million by Dr Khin Shwe of Zaykaba Co, K 13.525 million by public, K 6.04 million by the Mon State's health personnel, K 1 million each by Asia Wealth Bank, Kanbawza Bank, Myanmar May Flower Bank and Yazamin Bus Line, K 600,000 by Game City Group, K 500,000 each by U Hla Maung Shwe of Pyi Phyo Kyaw Co, U Than Hla of Green Asia Co, entrepreneur U Bo Lay and U Hla Myint of Honetauk Construction, 499,650 by Myannaing Myint Co, K 300,000 each by U Nay Win-Daw Aye Aye Mon (Ye Myat Mon Motorboat), U Ko Ko Naing (Thanlwin Drinking Water) and U Tin Maw of Yadana Tun Brokerage, K 200,000 each by U Soe Nyunt (Taing Aung Kyaw Motorboat), Entrepreneur U Bo Lay, U Tin Shwe (PLO gravel production) and Myanmar Universal Bank. The donations were accepted by Lt-Gen Maung Bo, Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung, Minister Dr Kyaw Myint and Director-General Dr Wan Maung. Minister Dr Kyaw Myint spoke words of thanks. Head of Mon State Health Department Dr Hla Myint presented commemorative pennants to Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party.
The 35-bed paediatric ward was built at a cost of over 45.8 million Kyats with the contributions of K 25.8 million by public, K 7.5 million by the Ministry of Health and K 10.9 million, K 600,000 worth of furniture and K 1 million worth of medical equipment by individual wellwishers.

Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than inspects regional development in Ayeyawady Division
Yangon, 31 March-Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, yesterday afternoon left here by car for Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division.
On arrival at Pandaing Village, Nyaungdon Township, they were welcomed there by Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Htay Oo and officials. They then inspected development of the Yangon-Nyaungdon road section and the Yangon-Maubin road section by car.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party, accompanied by Commander Maj-Gen Htay Oo, arrived at the briefing hall of Moehein Co on the Maubin-Kyaiklat road section.
At the briefing hall, In Charge of Meohein Co U Aung Myint Than reported on renovation of road section between the mileposts 0/0 and 2M/5F, earth work of the Maubin-Kyaiklat road section between the mileposts 0/6 and 3/6, and 3/6 and 9/6.
Next, Superintending Engineer U Ye Myint Swe and Commander Maj-Gen Htay Oo reported on construction of roads and bridges.
Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions on timely completion of the project and meeting the set standard.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected the river water pumping project with the use of husk-fired power being undertaken by Water Resources Utilization Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation at Thayawe Village in Kyaiklat Township.
Chairman of Pyapon District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Myint, Chairman of Kyaiklat Township Peace and Development Council U Win Myint and officials reported on the river water pumping project with the use of husk-fired power.
The project will benefit 100 acres of summer paddy and provide power supply for 100 houses.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party proceeded to the 400 acres model plot for summer paddy in Hleseik Village, Kyaiklat Township. At the briefing hall, Lt-Col Myo Myint reported on progress in cultivation of 110,000 acres of summer paddy in Kyaiklat Township and arrangements being made for cultivation of 128,200 acres of monsoon paddy.
Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave instructions on cultivation of the high-yield paddy and extension of cultivation.
Over 350,000 acres of farmland was put under summer paddy in four townships in Pyapon District and over 66,000 acres of summer paddy has been harvested.
Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party met with departmental officials and members of social organizations at Golden Jubilee Union Guest House and inspected development of Kyaiklat.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party left Kyaiklat for Pyapon and inspected development of Pyapon by car.
Later, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected Salmon Sea Kyapaik fisheries worksite at Myittan Village in Phyabon by boat. Owner of the Fisheries U Tun Tun Htwe and officials reported on functions of the Fisheries and processing measures.
The Fisheries has been functioning with 130 labourers and is making arrangements for sending its products to Yangon and foreign markets.
The Fisheries has been selling fish paste, dry fishes and fish sauce to Bayinnaung Market in Yangon.
Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party inspected offshore fisheries along Pyapon coast by boat.
Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party met with officials and other ranks of the local battalion and their families at the hall of the battalion and gave necessary instructions.
Consumer goods shop opened in Thingangyun Township
Yangon, 31 March - Minister for Cooperatives Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe this morning attended the opening of basic commodity and consumer goods shop, jointly organized by Cooperative No (7) Store Ltd, No 213, Khayay Myaing Street in Thingangyun Township and Paungsuthamyay Cooperative Societies.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Director-General of Cooperative Department U Soe Win, Managing Director of Cooperative Exports and Imports Enterprise Daw Khin Swe Soe, Deputy Director-General U Tin Win and directors, officials and members of board of directors of Cooperative No (7) Store Ltd. Certificate Course in Basic Diplomatic Skills opens
Yangon, 31 March-The Inauguration Ceremony of the Certificate Course in Basic Diplomatic Skills (BDS 8/2003) conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held at Wunzin Minyazar Hall of the Ministry this morning, with an address by U Win Aung, Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, directors-general of the departments under the ministry, departmental officials, Myanmar ambassadors, senior diplomats, a rector and professors of universities and institutes concerned and trainees.
Various subjects including International Con-ferencing, International Etiquette, Protocol, International Correspondence, International law and Negotiation Techniques are included in the course. A total of 160 trainees are attending the 12-week course.
No 1 Farm Machinery Factory (Hsinde) inspected
Yangon, 31 March - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin together with Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and Lt-Col Khin Maung Kyaw visited No 1 Farm Machinery Factory (Hsinde) in Pandaung Township, Bago Division (West) yesterday morning.
The minister inspected making of sand moulds for casting of machinery parts at smelting factory and production of spare parts for TE-21 and Mazada jeeps. The deputy ministers and Factory Manager U Kyaw Kyaw conducted the minister around the factory. The minister gave instructions on meeting the targeted production and standard, worksite safety and efficient use of fuel and electricity.
Hospitals in Mon State, Kayin State, Bago Division, inspected
Yangon, 31 March - Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint, inspected operation theatre, laboratory, X -ray room and intensive care units in Mawlamyine General Hospital in Mon State on 29 March.
Head of the Mon State Health Department Dr Hla Myint, Medical Superinten-dent Dr Maung Maung Gyi and officials conducted them round the hospital. At the meeting hall of the hospital, the minister met with medical specialists, doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital and gave necessary instructions to them.
The minister and party then saw over delivery room, the paediatric wards in Mawlamyine and midwifery training school and met with the principal, instructors and trainees of the school. The minister gave instructions to them. The minister and party on 30 March morning inspected progress of Gatoe region 16-bed hospital construction and Hpa-an General Hospital in Kayin State and fulfilled the requirements.
Next, they went to Tayokehla Model Village Station Hospital and Thaton District People's Hospital. The minister fulfilled the requirements after inspecting the patient wards, laboratories, X-ray rooms and health care services in the hospitals.
Similarly, the minister also inspected health care services in the people's hospitals in Bilin, Kyaikto townships and Theinzayat Station hospital.

Yangon, 31 March-A ceremony to honour those who are engaged in the opening of the basic education high school (evening classes) for 2002-2003 academic year was held at the City Hall in Ahlone Township, Yangon West District this morning, attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and wife Patron of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee Daw Khin Thet Htay.
The evening classes were opened with the sponsorship of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Association Supervisory Committee and Ahlone Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association.

Yangon, 31 March - Myanmar Industrial Exhibition 2003 continued for the 12th day at Hsinbyukan grounds in Mandalay today. Minister for Education U Than Aung and trainees of the Executives Management Multiplier Course (4/2003) of Amarapura Township Union Solidarity and Development Association visited the exhibition.
At the exhibition, the booths of the ministries, industrial zones, industrial entrepreneurs are shown. Private shops and restaurants are selling consumer goods and food.
At the booth of Myanmar Aerospace and Engineering University, MI 17.MD Helicopter, Components Location charts of F 7.II K Fighter / Interceptor Aircraft, charts of Space Technology, charts of laboratory equipment, telescopes, CD Roms for aviation control systems, flight and Engine Instruments, parts of aircraft and helicopter engines and scale model of MAEU are displayed. Cash donated to School for the Deaf in Mandalay
Yangon, 31 March - Kyo Shin Co Ltd of Japan on 28 March donated cash for the fifth time to School for the Deaf of the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Mandalay.
At the cash donation ceremony, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Central Command Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint delivered an address. Yangon, 31 March - Prize-winning works of the Armed Forces Day commemorative Art and Literary competitions are being shown at the Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road here today, attracting over 1,000 people.

Drug
Yangon, 31 March -A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and police force on 27 February night stopped and searched Tangon, 48, son of U Gongya of No 210, Dukataung Ward, Myit-kyina, riding Supercub cycle in Myothit Ward, Myitkyina, and discovered 1.6981 kilos of heroin. On follow-up investigation, the authorities also detained Ganmon, 35, son of U Sum Hlut Haw.
Action was being taken against them by Myintkyina No 2 Police Station under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law.
