31 May — Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence inspected Yangon Division
Vegetable and Poultry Farming Special Zone near

inspecting the physic nut nursery, he instructed officials to distribute the
saplings at reasonable price.
Over
150,000 physic nut saplings are being nurtured at the nursery.
At
the special zone-1, Lt-Gen Myint Swe oversaw poultry and vegetable farms and
physic nut plantations.
Next,
Lt-Gen Myint Swe met with officials at the special zone-2. He herad reports on
agricultural and water supply tasks.
In
his speech, Lt-Gen Myint Swe said that agricultural and livestock breeding tasks
are being undertaken at the special zones for food sufficiency of the Yangonites.
Departments concerned are to give encouragement to agricultural and livestock
breeding entrepreneurs.
It
is necessary to grow physic nut plants in the rainy season for producing
biodiesel. As the country has a lot of cultivable land, efforts are to be made
for carrying out agricultural and livestock breeding tasks to strengthen the
State economy without relying only on natural resources.
Afterwards,
Lt-Gen Myint Swe viewed thriving vegetable plantations in the special zone-2. On
arrival at the special zone-3, he inspected progress of agricultural and
livestock breeding work and left necessary instructions.

Yangon Division marks World
No-Tobacco Day

31 May—The Yangon Division Health Committee and Division Maternal and Child
Welfare Supervisory Committee co-organized the observance of Yangon Division
World No-Tobacco Day at

Insein Township, and the first, second and third prizes for the World No-Tobacco

presented facts about the project for control of cigarette and tobacco products.

31 May — U Tin Aung, member of No 3 branch of Shan State (South) National

Than and executive U Maung resigned from the party after sending signed letters
to the NLD headquarters and the respective local authorities on 8 May.
In
their signed letters of resignation they submitted to Taunggyi Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission, the three said that they
joined the NLD with the hope of effectively serving the interest of the local
people. As NLD members, they had discharged duties with sincerity.
They
were unhappy with the NLD for its constant perpetration of the incorrect policy
of confrontation, employing four means to put the nation under foreign economic
sanctions and relying on foreign nations and organizations.
They
added that NLD leadership ignored the people and the party walked out of the
National Convention because of the wish of a few. Hence, they said, they
resigned from the party and duties of own volition as they had no wish at all to
live as NLD members.

Transport held

Commander, Minister inspect bird flu
prevention

The
minister also inspected erection of a laboratory in the town. In Monywa
Industrial zone, he met with farming entrepreneurs, speaking of the need to
adopt collective farming system in which livestock breeding centres are linked
with communication networks to immediately inform Livestock Breeding and
Veterinary Department about any suspicious occurrence. Experts are in the
process of discovering a vaccine for the bird flu. Livestock Breeding
Development Bank will disburse K 50 million to farms of the disease-affected
areas.

Minister for Immigration and Population Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe met with
employees of the two ministries at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
Present
were Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Kyaw
Myint, Deputy Minister for Immigration and Population Maj-Gen Aung Kyi,
directors-general, deputy directors-general, heads of office, officials and
staff.
First,
Director-General U Sit Myaing of Social Welfare Department reported on tasks of
the SWD. Director-General U Than Oo of Relief and Resettlement Department also
reported on rescue and relief tasks and resettlement matters.
Director
U Zaw Win of Fire Services Department briefed the minister on fire prevention
measures. Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen

PYI TAW, 31 May — The school enrolment ceremony in Kachin State for 2006-07
academic year was held at Myintsuthaka Hall of No 3 Basic Education High School
in Myitkyina on 27 May morning.
It
was attended by Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander
of Northern Command Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, Chairperson of Kachin State Maternal and
Child Welfare Supervisory Committee wife of the commander Daw Nu Nu Swe, Deputy
Minister for Education Brig-Gen Aung Myo Min, senior military officers of
Myitkyina Station, local authorities, school heads, members of Parent-Teacher

accomplishments in third four months of 2005 and first four month of 2006 and

the first-day session, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint delivered an
address.

The
second-day session continued yesterday morning. Managing directors,

explained guidance of the Head of State, and instructed them to make efforts for
exceeding the target of the respective depart-ments by seeking means and ways,
to abide by laws, rules and regulations, to use fuel in production only, nurture
the employees for uplift of their efficiency and carry out welfare affairs of

English, Mathematics and Physics concluded at

Physic
nut plant growing ceremonies held in Thayet District
THAYET,
20 May — Under the arrangements of Thayet District Peace and Development
Council, physic nuts plants growing ceremonies were held from 16 to 20 May in
Mindon, Kanma, Thayet, Aunglan, Sinbaungwe and Minhla townships of Thayet
District. District social organization members collectively participated in the
ceremonies. Thayet District PDC Chairman Lt-Col Maung Maung San and members,
Chairperson of Thayet District Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee
attended the ceremonies. The plan is being undertaken to cultivate physic nut
plants in six townships of the district to meet the targeted acres in May.

was attended by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council
Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, Chairman of Myanmar Olympic
Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, officials and
representatives.
First,
the minister gave an opening speech. The minister provided K 555,000 for sports
suits to trainers, K 150,000 for school uniforms to teachers and 30 footballs
worth K 150,000 to the trainees through officials. Later, the minister cordially
greeted the trainees. At the Sports and Physical Education Institute, 292
trainees will attend football, volleyball, boxing, weightlifting, Sepak Takraw,
Wushu, gymnastics, swimming and tennis events.
