Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects progress of Mya Lake greening project in NyaungU Township

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw and Chairman of Magway Division PDC Col Phone Maw Shwe, heard reports on storage of water at Mya Lake at the foot of Tuyin Hill reported by officials in Bagan Archaeological Region in NyaungU Township on 30 July. The commander gave a supplementary report.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected in flow and storage of water at the lake, greening of the lake’s environs and cultivation of monsoon paddy. He viewed supply of water from Lawkananda Canal to farmlands and thriving paddy plantations along the canal.

At Shanmange Dam Project near Aungtha Village not for from Kyaukpadaung-Meiktila Road, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party heard reports on construction of the earth dam 6,800 feet long and 89 feet high, and storage of water presented by Director U Myo Tun of Construction-7 of Irrigation Department. The commander gave a supplementary report.

Shanmange Dam will supply water to Mondaing Dam with the aims of greening Meiktila Plains and preventing silting of Mondaing Dam in Meiktila Township .

The dam is being built on Shanmange Creek near Aungtha Village in Meiktila Township . The dam can store 21,910 acre-feet of water, and the 172 feet long and three-feet diameter reinforced concrete conduit and the 40 feet wide spillway will be built at the dam.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party left there and arrived back here in the evening.

Ceremony to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2006 held

YANGON, 2 Aug — A ceremony and quiz to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2006 conducted by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association took place at the meeting hall of MMCWA building at the corner of Parami and Thanthuma Roads in South Okkalapa Township this morning.

It was attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, President of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation Daw Than Than Nwe, Vice-Presidents Daw Khin Lay Myint and Daw Khin Thet Htay, Honourary Patrons of MMCWA, President of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Daw Khin Khin Win,Vice-Presidents Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint and Daw Aye Aye, CEC members, Yangon Division MCW Supervisory Committee Daw Mar Mar Wai and members, officials of the Ministry of Health, resident representatives of UN agencies, responsible persons of social organizations and Chairpersons of district/township MCWAs and MCWSCs.

Firstly, the quiz was held under the supervision of members of the Panel of Judges MMCWA Vice-President Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint, Pediatrician Prof Dr S Kyaw Hla, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Daw May Marlar Swe. Three members of MCWA each from four districts in Yangon Division participated in the quiz.

Next, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo and President of MMCWA Daw Khin Khin Win made addresses at the ceremony.

Later, MMCWA President Daw Khin Khin Win presented first prize to Yangon West District MCWSC, Vice-President Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint, second prize to Yangon East District MCWSC, third prize to Yangon South District MCWSC and consolation prize to Yangon North District MCWSC and Vice-President Daw Aye Aye presented gifts to the members of the Panel of Judges.

Tasks to be implemented without delay to realize fourth five-year plan targets  Information Minister on tour of Ayeyawady Division

YANGON , 2 Aug—Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan made an inspection tour of Ayeyawady Division on 31 July.

He inspected the TV re-transmission station under Myanma Radio and Television in Kyaunggon in Ayeyawady Division, and called for expanded broadcasting, speedy completion of the arrangements for another channels that will link with MRTV-4, effective implementation of educative and informative tasks, and growing vegetables, fruit and perennial crops.

He also met with the service personnel under the ministry at Pathein District Information and Public Relations Department in the evening.

Officials reported on progress in opening self-reliant libraries and information tasks, Pathein TV re-transmission station, and functions of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise in respective districts.

In response, the minister said that the staff are to make increased efforts to carry out their tasks. The minister said he was conducting field trips to extend opening of rural libraries.

Endeavours are to be exerted with might and main to achieve the 14 objectives of the ministry.

And service person-nel must implement the five work programmes for durability and sustainable progress of already-estabished libraries, he said.

The donations of cash, TV sets and radios are to be used beneficially for the public knowledge. Now, the ministry is implementing its fourth five-year plan. In this regard, tasks are to be implemented without delay.

He said he will practise the reward and punishment approach, calling for cohesion among the staff and urged them to discharge duties by doing their bit.

Yesterday morning, Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and the minister visited the Shwe Mutthaw Pagoda. The minister made cash donations to the funds of the pagoda through the commander.

Commander, Minister attend ceremonies to donate desks to schools in Shan State (North)

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut and Joint-Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Electric Power No (1) Col Zaw Min on 30 July attended the ceremony to donate school furniture to basic education primary schools in villages of Shan State (North).

The ceremony was held at No(4) Post-Primary School in Hsipaw.

The minister deli-vered an address. Next, Secretary of Shan State (North) USDA U Sai Naw Kham Oo explained the purpose of donations. Officials accepted cash and kind donations from well-wishers. The commander and the minister attended to the needs.

The minister also delivered an address at the ceremony held at No (1) BEPS in Kyaukme Township to donate school furniture to basic education primary schools in townships and villages of Kyaukme District.

Secretary of Kyaukme District USDA U Ko Ko presented 315 desks to Additional State Education Officer U Myat Htut.

Township Educa-tion Officer U Hauk Shan accepted cash donations from wellwishers.

A total of 418 desks were donated to basic edu-cation primary schools in eight townships of Kyaukme District.

USDA presents desks, benches to schools in Shan State (East)

YANGON, 2 Aug — Shan State East Union Solidarity and Development Association presented desks and benches to basic education primary schools in Shan State (East) on 26 July in Kengtung.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Min Aung Hlaing and wife, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Wai Lin, senior military officers, USDA members, local authorities, departmental personnel and others.

Commander Maj-Gen Min Aung Hlaing spoke on the occasion.

The secretary of Shan State (East) USDA explained the purpose of donations. The additional education officer of the state accepted the furniture worth over K 4.3 million.

The opening ceremony of Shan State (East) PDC Chairman’s Shield inter-district men’s and women’s volleyball tournament was held in Kengtung the same day. The commander and party attended the ceremony and watched the matches.

The matches con-tinued till 29 July.

Cash presented to offer Waso robes and build new monastery in Loikaw

YANGON, 2 Aug — CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung, Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Hla Myint Shwe and party arrived at Maha Dhammawihara nunnery in Loikaw on 31 July, and attended the ceremony to present robes for nuns donated by Kayah State USDA, Supervisory Committee for Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Women’s Affairs Organization.

Next, the CEC member, the Chairman of Kayah State PDC and MCWSC and WAO donated 10 bags of rice, 20 viss of edible oil, 100 packets of iodized salt and 160 robes for nuns. Afterwards, the CEC member and the Chairman of Kayah State PDC donated K 200,000 each to Nun Daw Therańani.

The CEC member and the Chairman of Kayah State PDC attended the ceremony to donate desks for Basic Education Primary Schools in Dimawhso. They arrived at Myoma Parahita Monastery in Dimawhso and paid homage to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhana and donated K 600,000 for Waso robes and new monastery building.

Minister receives Chairman of Thai Airlines

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Thein Swe received Mr Somchainuk Engtrakul of Chairman of Board of Executives of Thai Airlines at the ministry here yesterday.

Also present at the call were Director-General U Win Pe of Transport Department, Director-General U Tun Hlaing of Department of Civil Aviation and Managing Director U Tin Maung Tun of Myanma Airways.

H&T Minister meets hoteliers and entrepreneurs in Kengtung

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Soe Naing met with hoteliers and entrepreneurs of travel agencies in Kengtung and staff of new Kengtung Hotel at the hotel in Kengtung on 29 July.

Director-General U Htay Aung of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism reported on progress of hotels and tourism sector and Chairman of Golden Triangle Hotel Zone U Soe Shwe on undertakings of hotels industries and travels agencies in Kengtung and Tachilek. The minister made concluding remarks and fulfilled the requirements.

The minister and party looked into decoration and services of new Kengtung Hotel.

Minister for Electric Power No (2) inspects township offices

YANGON, 2 Aug — Minister for Electric Power No (2) Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint, accompanied by Col Khin Maung Soe of Yangon City Electric Power Supply Board and officials, inspected the counter at Latha Township Office on 24th Street in Latha Township on 31 July.

At Pabedan Township Office, the minister heard reports on strength of staff, installation of transformers and overhead and underground cables presented by the Township Officer. Assistant Chief Engineer U Nyo Win of YCEPSB gave a supplementary report.

After inspecting tasks of Kyauktada, Pazundaung and Mingala Taungnyunt Township Offices, Minister Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint met with service personnel and gave necessary instructions.

USDA CEC Member inspects breeding tasks in Mandalay

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein together with Director-General of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department U Maung Maung Nyunt and responsible personnel went to a condensed milk factory of entrepreneur U Win Nyunt Aung and his milch cow farm in Meiktila, Mandalay Division on 29 July and viewed round the factory and attended to the needs.

Next, the minister and party viewed livestock breeding tasks in Tawma village of Meiktila Township and Yesu Block in Kyaukse.

Afterwards, the minister and party went to Patheingyi and inspected growing of mangoes and durein and fulfilled the requirements. Then they proceeded to entrepreneur U Maung Maung Lwin’s milch cow farm. Next, the minister attended a meeting of breeders at the meeting hall of LBVD in Pyigyitagun, Mandalay on 30 July.

Fourth Year National Immunization Days to be launched on 3 Sept, 10 Oct

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — The Central Organizing Committee for the Fourth Year Region-wise National Immunization Days held its meeting at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on 31 July.

Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint said Myanmar has been free from wild polio virus for six years and he called on the related ministries and social organizations to participate in launching the National Immunization Days for success.

Deputy Director-General of Health Department (Disease Control) Dr Kyaw Nyunt Sein reported on work programmes for the Fourth Year Region-wise National Immunization Days and project manager of vaccination project Dr Than Htein Win on assistance for success of National Immunization Days.

The National Immunization Days will be launched on 3 September and 10 October and polio vaccines will also be given to children under five of 80 townships — 31 townships in Mandalay Division, 14 townships in Magway Division, 18 townships in Sagaing Division, 14 townships in Shan State (North) and three in Kachin State.

UMFCCI officials meet Chinese guests

YANGON, 2 Aug — Responsible persons of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry held a meeting with trade delegation members of Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China at Hotel Nikko Royal Lake Yangon on 23 July.

They discussed investment in production of finished wood, mining, agriculture, meat and fish and industries. They frankly held discussions on boosting of trade, coordination on border trade, investment opportunities of China and banking services.

Monsoon season tree planting ceremony held in Pyinmana Tsp

NAY PYI TAW, 1 Aug — The Monsoon Season Tree Planting Ceremony 2006 took place near TadaU Village in Pyinmana Township yesterday.

It was attended by Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Brig-Gen Wai Lwin, Deputy Commissioner U Khin Maung Zaw of Pyinmana District General Adminis-tration Department, officials, members of social organizations and local people.

They collectively grown 6,800 trees along the bypass.

A total of 10,800 trees have been cultivated along the 5 miles and six furlongs long bypass in Pyinmana.

Minister puts fingerlings into small dam

NAY PYI TAW, 2 Aug — A ceremony to release fingerlings in small dams of the Ministry of Industry-1 was held in the compound of the Ministry yesterday. Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung attended the ceremony and released the fingerlings into the small dams. Also present were directors-general and managing directors of departments and enterprises under the ministry and 35,000 fingerlings were released into the small dams.

Mayor inspects preventive measures against DHF

YANGON, 2 Aug — A mass movement on preventive measures against Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, organized by the Ministry of Health and Yangon City Development Committee, was launched in Hline Township , Yangon North District this morning.

Chairman of YCDC Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo and Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa gave encouragement to those who participated in the DHF control.

First, the mayor, the vice-mayor and the deputy minister met with departmental officials and members of social organizations at the meeting hall of head office of development affairs.

During the meeting, responsible personnel reported on outbreak of the disease age-wise every month, education and health, use of drinking water, combating of larvae and preventive measures against DHF with the help of charts. Next, the Hline Township education officer and the secretary of Hline Township Union Solidarity and Deve-lopment Association reported on participation of preventive measures against DHF.

Afterwards, the mayor, the vice-mayor and the deputy minister gave instructions on continuous cooperative measures with departments con-cerned and social organizations, keeping the premises of basic education schools clean and clearing of larvae.

Next, the mayor, the vice-mayor and the deputy minister viewed preventive measures against dengue fever and educative talks on dengue fever.

Workshops assembling locomotives and spare parts locally

YANGON, 2 Aug — Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin on 31 July met with general managers and service personnel of Insein Locomotive Workshop, Ywataung Diesel Locomotive Shed and Myitnge Carriage and Wagon Workshop at Insein Locomotive Workshop. The deputy minister gave instructions on undertaking production of spare parts and accessories of locomotives, preparedness to assemble locomotive locally and future programme and heard reports on production of locomotives and spare parts, technology transfer and import of raw materials, quality control and tasks being carried out with departments concerned.

Construction of new building for MMA (Pathein) nearing completion

YANGON , 2 Aug — The building of Myanmar Medical Association (Pathein) is under construction at 22/A on Maha Bandoola Road in Pathein, Ayeyawaddy Division, starting May 2005.

Construction tasks were completed by 90 per cent, spending K 40 million.

Basic Computer Course, GPS Short Course conclude

YANGON, 2 Aug — A basic computer course and GPS course No 1/2006 concluded at the training school of Settlement and Land Records Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation yesterday.

Present on the occasion were directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, course instructors and 20 trainees.
