Prime Minister General Soe Win sends felicitations to Vietnam

Service personnel to discharge duties assigned by local authorities for accomplishment of five rural development tasks

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 Sept —Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, Kachin State PDC Chairman Northern Command Commander Maj-Gen Ohn Myint and Shan State (North) PDC Chairman North-East Command Commander Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut met with officers and other ranks of the Momeik Station and their family members on 30 August at the hall of the station in Kyaukme District, Shan State (North).

On the occasion, Lt-Gen Ye Myint called for cooperation with the people in regional development tasks, setting up model agricultural and livestock breeding farms, extended growing of physic nut, and planting perennial crops such as djenkol bean and avocado.

Upon arrival at Hsinshweli strain farm at Taunggaing Village-tract in Momeik Township, they heard a report by Kyaukme District PDC Chairman Lt-Col Soe Win on putting 42 acres of land under Hsinshweli strain high-yield paddy and growing of paddy of the strain on the 15-acre field.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint observed the propagation of new plants from Hsinshweli strain paddy plants, and spoke words of encouragement to the chairman of Padan Village PDC and social organization members.

The manager of the Township Myanma Agriculture Service reported on progress in cultivation of physic nut on 100 acres in the village-tract, stockpiling of seeds, and progress of putting 2,712 acres under physic nut. Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the 100-acre physic nut farm.

At Nyaungbinsauk Basic Education High School in Momeik Township, he called on members of the school board of trustees to produce human resources and extend growing of djenkol bean and avocado. He also viewed the newly-constructed building of the school.

They held a meeting with local authorities, townselders and local residents at Momeik Township Development Affairs Committee. Local authorities reported on progress of regional development tasks township-wise. The chairman of Kyaukme Township PDC chairman gave a supplementary report. Departmental officials reported on tasks sector-wise. Commander Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut reported on kinds of assistance to be rendered for the development of Momeik and Mabein townships, and Commander Maj-Gen Ohn Myint on regional development tasks and programmes being implemented for better transport between Momeik and Mabein townships.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint presented K 200,000 each to the funds of Momeik Township and Mabein Township people’s hospitals, foodstuff to the patients, stationery to the students, and VCD players to the Information and Public Relations Department.

He presented gifts to five and four distinction winners in the 2005-2006 academic year. In his speech, Lt-Gen Ye Myint said that in addition to primary duties, service personnel are to discharge duties assigned by local authorities for the accomplishment of the five rural development tasks.

In the past, Mandalay-Shwebo-Myitkyina railroad was the only transport facility in Kachin State. Now, local people have enjoyed the taste of better transport thanks to emergence of Mandalay-Tagaung-NgaO-Shwegu-Bhamo-Myitkyina Road in addition to Mandalay-Shwebo-Myitkyina Road. In conclusion, he urged service personnel to join hands with local people in regional development undertakings.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party inspected Momeik Township people’s hospital and presented foodstuff to the patients.

Next, they inspected Golden Spider ice factory and electric power enterprise in Momeik, and the physic nut farm No 2 of Momeik Station.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party also viewed the plantations of physic nut and vegetables and greening tasks. They had a cordial meeting with servicemen and their families and called for extended growing of avocado and djenkol bean.

Concerted efforts of departmental officials, local people lead to greater regional development  Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than visits Maei, Taungup in Rakhine State

Nay Pyi Taw, 31 Aug — Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence met with departmental personnel, social organizations and local elders in Maei and Taungup on 28 August during his visit to Rakhine State.

In Maei, a town on Taungup-Kyaukpyu road, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than said that officials should strive to grow more edible oil crops to produce enough oil for local consumption. They will have to extend rubber, pepper and physic nut farms to help develop the economy of the town that is producing sufficient amount of rice for its people, he stressed. Manageable-scale keeping of poultry will also ensure local food sufficiency, he pointed out, saying that official field tours are required in order to implement the rural development project more effectively.

Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than also attended to the regional needs presented by Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Brig-Gen Maung Shein and officials.

Taungup needs to extend rice cultivation although local food production meets the local consumption, said Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than at the town. Harmonious efforts between departmental personnel and local people will lead to achieving success in regional development undertakings, he said. He also discussed extension of pepper and physic nut cultivation in the township.

In both towns, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than presented cash and stationery assistance to schools. His Maei visit began with the inspection of a police station where he reminded police of the importance of their work to ensure prevalence of regional peace and the rule of law.

During inspection of the 16-bed Maei hospital project, he heard a report presented by the head of Panyi Bandaik construction company. He discussed with officials on installation of an emergency generator, greening work and construction of the building.

The hospital will provide health care services for local people of the four wards of Maei and villages in the surrounding areas.

His Taungup visit included a meeting he held with Tatmadawmen of the local station and the inspection of pepper and physic nut farms.

Along his journey from the town to Pyay in Bago Division, he supervised the Taungup Road maintenance work, and on arrival at Myaya camp on the way, he met with officials including Chairman of Bago Division (West) Peace and Development Council Col Sein Myint and made arrangements to facilitate the road maintenance and upgrading work.

Before arriving in Pyay where he would spend the night, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than observed the coffee farms of Pyay Station, urging departments to organize the private sector to grow more coffee.

Chinese athletes exhibit Wushu skills

Yangon, 1 Sept—The demonstration of Wushu sports by Wushu Federation of the People’s Republic of China took place at the National Indoor Stadium-1, Thuwunna here this afternoon.

It was attended by Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay, Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minster for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and committee members, Daw Mar Mar Wai, wife of the Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, leading patrons of Myanmar Women Sports Federation, Chairperson of MWSF Central Leading Committee Daw Aye Aye, the chairman of Myanmar Wushu Federation and executives, Chargé d’ Affairs Mr Yu Boren, Attache (Culture) Mr Wang Ruiqing, leader of Wushu demonstrators of PRC Wushu Federation Miss Yan Li Sheng, those from Myanmar Sports Federation, athletes, students and enthusiasts. Members of PRC Wushu Demonstration team presented various kinds of Wushu sports including Nangun, Taijiquan and Changquan.

After the demonstration Chargé d’ Affairs Mr Yu Boren of Chinese Embassy presented a flower basket to leader of Wushu demonstrators Miss Yan Li and the ceremony ended.

The demonstration of Wushu sports continues tomorrow as the final day.

Special express train begins Yangon-Mandalay run 4 Sept

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 Sept — Special express train begins its Yangon-Mandalay run on 4 September for the convenience of ever increasing number of passengers travelling between the two largest commercial cities of Myanmar.

Everyday, the up train leaves Yangon at 5 pm and the down train departs from Mandalay at 4.15 pm, with Pyinmana as the only stopover for the express passenger service of the Myanma Railways.

The government has been building new motor roads, railroads, railway stations, ports and airports and upgrading the existing facilities and launching new road, rail, air and boat services to facilitate passenger and freight transport.

Minister inspects telecommunication tasks in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay

Nay Pyi Taw, 31 Aug — Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw accompanied by officials arrived at construction site for building Yandanabon Myothit in PyinOoLwin Township on 28 August. The minister heard reports on land preparations and road construction by officials and gave necessary instructions.

Next, the minister proceeded to Digital Auto Exchange in PyinOoLwin and Ohn Chaw Digital Auto Exchange, and heard reports presented by officials.

Later, the minister inspected construction site for building a tower to be used in GSM telephone system and attended to the needs. The minister also inspected GSM tower to be installed at the roof of Zegyo Plaza and installation of telecommunication sets.

Foreign Minister sends felicitations to Vietnam

Minister meets employees of Yangon City Electric Power Supply Board

Yangon, 31 Aug — Minister for Electric Power No (2) Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint met with 1,030 employees of Yangon West and North District Offices and 1,363 employees of Yangon East and South District Offices under Yangon City Electric Power Supply Board at its meeting hall on 28 August morning.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed the need to minimize loss and wastage in supply of power and collection of charges for power consumption. Col Khin Maung Soe of the board instructed the employees to collect the accurate in the bills for power consumption from the consumers.

Director (Finance) U Myo Naing of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise and Chief Engineer U Tun Aye of the board took part in the discussions. Later, the minister gave necessary instructions.

USDA Secretary-General receives Japanese youth delegation

Yangon, 1 Sept — Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Htay Oo received a 12-member Japanese youth delegation led by Mr Munehiko Mochida who arrived here to pay a goodwill visit under the exchange of interna-tional youth development programme of Japan, at the USDA Headquarters on New University Avenue in Bahan Township this evening.

Also present at the call were CEC member U Aung Thein Lin and U Maung Pa, and responsible persons of the USDA Headquarters.

At the meeting, Secretary-General U Htay Oo explained facts about the Union of Myanmar and duties and functions of the association.

Mr Munehiko Mochida of the Japanese delegation expressed gratitude. After the meeting, Secretary-General U Htay Oo and the Japanese delegation exchanged gifts.

48 members of Mawlamyinegyun Township NLD quit No longer put trust in party leaders

Yangon, 1 Sept — The 48 members of Mawlamyinegyun Township National League for Democracy including U Win Khe, U Thein Aung, U Kyaw Tint, U Myint Kyi, Daw Than Hla-2, Ma Cherry, U Myint Moe, U Aung Thein, U Aung Myint and Ma Kay Thi in Ayeyawady Division resigned from the NLD party of their own accord on 15 July. They had sent their resignation letters to NLD headquarters and local authorities concerned.

In their letters, they said NLD party has committed acts that are detrimental to the State and the people and they no longer put their trust in the party’s leaders. A total of 152 party members including the 48 members have resigned from NLD party so far.

Nay Pyi Taw Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee holds meeting

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 Sept — Nay Pyi Taw Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee held its meeting (14/2006) at Nay Pyi Taw Command’s office this evening. Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Brig-Gen Wai Lwin, Committee Chairman Lt-Col Kyaw Soe and members and local authorities attended the meeting.

Commander Brig-Gen Wai Lwin made a speech. The chairman of the committee reported on educative and punitive measures being taken to enforce traffic rules in August. Later, the chairmen of working committees submitted reports.

The commander called for running of new bus lines, reduction of traffic accidents and educative and punitive measures to be taken.

21st Gem and Jade Sales 2006 conclude

Yangon, 1 Sept — The 21st Gem and Jade Sales 2006 of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd continued at Myanmar Convention Centre on Mindhamma Road in Mayangon Township this morning, attended by Managing Director of UMEHL Maj-Gen Win Than, and members of Board of Directors and gem merchants.

Gem merchants examined gem and jade lots from 28 to 31 August.

A total of 321 jade lots were sold through bargain system. Maj-Gen Win Than and members of Board of Directors presented gifts to gem merchants who bought the gem and jade lots with highest price.

Mawlamyine Township USDA holds annual meeting

Yangon, 1 Sept — The annual meeting of Mawlamyine Township Union Solidarity and Development Association for 2006 was held at Mon State USDA office in Mawlamyine on 27 August. Patron of Mon State USDA Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen Thet Naing Win and local authorities, the secretary and executives of Mon State USDA and members of district and township USDAs were present.

Patron of Mon State USDA Commander Brig-Gen Thet Naing Win made an opening speech. And the commander accepted cash donation for Mawlamyine Township USDA from the wellwishers.

Later, the commander and officials awarded prizes to three best pass rate schools in matriculation examination and the outstanding students.

At the meeting, Secretary of Mawlamyine Township USDA U Than Sein delivered an address. Executive Daw San San Win read a report and those present made round table discussions.

Nay Pyi Taw’s Herbal Plantation to be upgraded

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 Sept — Ministry of Health yesterday held a coordination meeting on upgrading the herbal plantation here.

At the meeting, participants discussed measures being taken for upgrading the garden.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Health Dr Paing Soe, officials of Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Electric Power-2 and Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.

The meeting ended with concluding remarks by Deputy Minister Dr Paing Soe.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister arrives back from Thailand

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 Sept — At the invitation of Sub Lt Prapas Limpabandhu, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, a Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Maung Myint left for Thailand to attend the meeting on sending legally Myanmar workers to Thailand on 26 August and arrived back here by air on 30 August. 

While in Thailand, the deputy minister and party met with the Thai delegation led by Labour Minister Mr Somsak Thepsutin on 26 August, and also met with Thai Labour delegation led by Advisor Sub Lt Prapas Limpabandhu on 28 August. They held discussions on matters related to consular affairs, sending legally Myanmar workers to Thailan Myanmar workers working in Thailand and cooperation in labour affairs.

Myanmar delegation also called on Pol Gen Chidchai Vanasatidya, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice on 28 August.

During the meetings, both sides had agreed to set up three processing centres in Tachilek, Myawady and Kawthaung. At those centres, the Myanmar side will scrutinize the Myanmar workers and will issue temporary passports within a day.

Irregularities in making Myanmar video features under investigation

Yangon, 1 Sept — According to the information given by the Video Censorship Committee, some profiteers are making video features by picking out appropriate scenes with the same plots from other video features already permitted by the Video Censorship Committee, and marketing copies of such video features with fake censor permits.

At the meeting of Video Censorship Committee on 30 August, officials re-scrutinized a video feature titled “Ma-hson-de-phu-zar” produced by Manizawta Video Production Industry. And the video feature was found to be a make-up with a combination of plots of some video features starring actor Lu Min and actress Nanda Hlaing. It was also found that names of the producer, the director and the title of the feature were all fake. Furthermore, the name of the script writer and film stars were used unscrupulously.

The copies of the above-mentioned video feature are to be handed to the video scrutinizing supervisory committees and the video chapter of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization. Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise and MMPO are taking measures to expose such video features and take action against those unscrupulous producers.

Tasks of Insein Locomotive Shed inspected

Nay Pyi Taw, 31 Aug — Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin heard reports on efforts being made for assembling locomotives at home and manufacturing of machine parts presented by officials at Insein Locomotive Shed on 28 August morning.

The deputy minister inspected preparations for assembling new locomotives, repair of locomotives and wheels and manufacturing of spare parts at the shed, and left necessary instructions.

Vessel loaded with palm oil arrives

Yangon, 1 Sept — Under the arrangements of the government, edible palm oil was imported from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore and sold to the people at reasonable price.

At 11 am today, MV AMA-3 carrying 2,750 tons of palm oil arrived at Htidan Jetty, here. Officials inspected palm oil on board the vessel.

Likewise, one more vessel with 2,750 tons of palm oil will arrive here on 5 September and another one with the same load of palm oil on 6 September.

Three primary schools benefit from aids of USDA

Yangon, 1 Sept — Union Solidarity and Development Association donated desks to three basic education primary schools in Dawbon Township today.

At the donation ceremony held at the No 3 BEPS in the township, Central Executive Committee Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin handed over 80 desks to headmasters and headmistresses.

Out of 3,916 benches to be donated to 409 schools in Yangon Division, over 1,800 desks have been donated so far by Yangon Division USDA.

Model Trainee Award and Shooting Award winner honoured

Yangon, 1 Sept — Assistant Surgeon Dr Daw Win Win Wah of New Yangon General Hospital who won Model Trainee Award and Shooting Award of Basic Civil Service Course No 171 opened at the Central Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) was honoured at a ceremony held at NYGH here yesterday.

After making a speech on the occasion, Medical Superintendent Dr Daw Hla Kyin presented a certificate of honour and gift to the award winner.
