Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects No 1 Integrated Farm, water supply facilities in Mandalay

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Feb — Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Phone Zaw Han and officials, yesterday inspected thriving physic nut plants at No 1 Integrated Farm of MCDC in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Division.

After inspecting physic nut plantations, Lt-Gen Ye Myint gave instructions on watering, weeping and spraying of insecticides.

The MCDC has made arrangements to grow 200 acres of physic nut plants at No 1 Integrated Farm in 2007-2008. At present, 120 acres of physic nut plants are thriving at the farm.

The MCDC is also making arrangements to grow 100 acres of physic nut plants in Nawnghkio Township and 200 acres of physic nut plants in Kyaukpadaung Township.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party viewed thriving of physic nut plants, raising of 1,000 pigs, poultry and fishes at No 1 Integrated Farm and the Breeding Farm (Yetaguntaung).

After that, Lt-Gen Ye Myint looked into producing of bio-diesel from physic nut seeds.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party proceeded to the 500,000 gallon-capacity tank and the Water Pusher No 4 construction project site where Head of MCDC’s Water and Sanitation Department U Tun Kyi conducted them round.

Next, they inspected the chlorine factory building and installation of 110-HP water pushers and attended to the needs.

At the briefing hall, Head of MCDC’s Water and Sanitation Department U Tun Kyi reported on work being carried out for supply of more water to Mandalay City and Mayor Brig-Gen Phone Zaw Han other salient points.

After hearing the reports, Lt-Gen Ye Myint fulfilled the requirements.

The water supply factory will be able to supply drinking water to 40,000 people of 6,500 households in Mandalay City.

Public welfare tasks to be carried out as national duty Secretariat Member meets USDA executives in Mandalay Division

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Feb — Secretariat Member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung heard reports on regional development works and future tasks presented by Secretary U Maung Maung Ohn of Township USDA, executives and organizers at the Amarapura Township USDA Office yesterday.

The Secretariat Member explained the lofty aims of the association and instructed them to take part in the public welfare tasks, cooperate with local people in carrying out five rural development tasks and keep in touch with latest developments at home and abroad.

While in Amarapura, the Secretariat Member viewed the production process of silkware and cottonware at Shweyamin Silkware Industry.

He also inspected the site for construction of Village USDA Office in Ngeboe Village-tract.

The minister also viewed weaving and production of silkware at Daw Saw Shin Silkware Industry and Shwe Hsin Taing and Shwe Hninzi Weaving Houses.

At the office of Mandalay Division USDA, the Secretariat Member met with the secretary, the joint secretary and executives of Mandalay Division USDA.

Division USDA Secretary U Tin Maung Oo reported on participation in public welfare tasks and future plans.

After attending to the needs, the Secretariat Member instructed them to carry out the public welfare task as a national concern.

Myanmar first-ever country in the world, laying down the plan to open self-reliant libraries in all villages across the nation 12 wellwishers donate 11,714 books worth K 10,479,000 to self-reliant libraries

Yangon, 4 Feb — A ceremony to donate various kinds of publications for self-reliant village libraries set-up by the Information and Public Relations Department was held at the hall of Printing and Publishing Enterprise on Theinbyu Street here yesterday morning, attended by Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that there are various sectors being brought about for development of the nation. Of them, priority is being given to widening the scope of knowledge of the people, ensuring development of human resources and turning out technicians. In doing so, self-reliant village libraries are being established in the entire nation. By donating books to the libraries, wellwishers perform noble and meritorious deeds. So far, libraries have been opened at 54,707 villages out of 61,949 throughout the nation.

Myanmar is a first-ever country in the world, laying down the plan to open self-reliant libraries in all villages across the nation. Due to cooperation of the wellwishers, a number of self-reliant village libraries could be set up.

The minister thanked the wellwishers for their book donations and urged them to continue participating in the tasks to maintain durability and development of the libraries in cooperation with the Ministry of Information. It is necessary to carry out five tasks for development of the libraries with the strengths of the wellwishers, the government, local authorities, social organizations and departmental personnel. In conclusion, the minister said he firmly believes that wellwishers will donate more and more books for the libraries in the future.

Afterwards, the minister accepted 11,714 books worth K 10,479,000 donated by 12 wellwishers — 4,170 books worth K 4,288,300 donated by Dr Tha Tun Oo of Today Publication Ltd; 800 books worth K 2.8 million by Managing Director U Moe Kyaw of Yangon Directory; 1,350 copies of magazines worth K 1,350,000 by U Thaung Su Nyein of Myanmar Pyithar Magazine; 500 books worth K 620,000 by U Thet Oo (a) Shar Nyo of Say Sar Yar Media Group; 2,110 books worth K 343,500 by U Min Ko Ko and family of Aphwa Yadana Sarpay; 350 books worth K 280,000 by U Aung Kyaw Thu Lwin of Shwe Kyarbyan Co; 1,248 copies of magazines worth K 249,600 by U Win Myo Thu of Beauty magazine; 180 books worth K 124,000 by U Khin Maung Sein of Zaw Sarpay; 716 copies of Idea and Hmukhin Yaungson magazines worth K 123,600 by Maung Myo of Kyaung Hnakaung Sarpay; 140 books worth K 100,000 by U Kyaw Soe of Taung Chun Construction Co; 100 books worth K 100,000 by U Soe Shein (Maung Soe Htaik-Thonze) of Amaythar Htaik Sarpay; and 50 books worth K 100,000 by Ko Nay (Kawlin) of Kyawzeyar Ward in Kawlin.

Next, the minister presented certificates of honour to the wellwishers.

Later, Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan cordially greeted the wellwishers.

H&T Minister attends 10th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Feb — Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Soe Naing, accompanied by Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Hoteliars Association Dr Khin Shwe, Chairman of Union of Myanmar Travel Association U Khin Zaw and responsible personnel attended the 10th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers, 6th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Ministers, a press conference on 6th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Ministers and ASEAN Tourism Exhibition held in Singapore from 29 to 31 January.

Present on the occasion were Tourism Ministers from ASEAN, the ASEAN Secretariat, authorities concerned from ASEAN and high ranking officials. A joint-statement was released at the meeting.

Next the 6th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Ministers was held on 30 January and the meeting passed a joint-statement. Afterwards, a press conference on the 6th Meeting of ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Ministers followed in the afternoon. The ASEAN Tourism Exhibition was held in the evening.

Minister Maj-Gen Soe Naing viewed Myanmar booths and others on display at the exhibition held at Suntee City Exhibition and Convention Centre in Singapore on 31 January.

Commander, Minister inspect Monywa Industrial Zone

Nay Pyi Taw, 3 Feb — Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North West Command Maj-Gen Tha Aye, Minister for Commerce Brig-Gen Tin Naing Thein and officials inspected cultivation of physic nut at the compound of the sport ground near the airfield in Monywa on 28 January.

The commander and the minister inspected cultivation of kitchen crops of regional battalion and visited foundry shop in Monywa Industrial Zone. They observed the products of the zone including fire-engines, Chindwin jeeps and three-wheel motor cycles.

They also discussed production of items and requirements in meeting with departmental officials, members of Monywa Industrial Zone Supervisory Committee and Management Committee.

Information Minister attends cash donation for all-round renovation of Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda

Yangon, 4 Feb — The first cash donation for the fourth all-round reno-vation of Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda was held in conjunction with the fourth meeting of the Central Committee for All-round renovation of the pagoda, in Pazundaung Township this morning.

At the cash donation ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee Secretariat Member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan explained the brief history of the pagoda and progress of renovation.

First, the minister accepted K 3,250,000 for five gold plates donated by U Hlaing Win-Daw Khin Than Than of Singapore; K 650,000 for one gold plate each by Managing Director U Aung Myo Myint of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise-Daw Marlar Win, Chairman of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Tint Lwin-Daw Myint Myint Kyi, film actor Khant Sithu, Film actor Lu Min-Daw Khin Sabei Oo, U Soe Than-Daw Mar Mar Soe of Dawei Film and Video, U Tin Aung-Daw Yi Yi Htay of Myitta Yaungbyan Film and U Aye (Maung Café) of Yegyaw in Pazundaung Township.

Members of the Leading Committee, departmental heads and Chairman of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Tint Lwin accepted K 650,000 for one gold plate each donated by wellwishers, and K 1.3 million by U Pho Zaw-Daw Zin Zin Myint of South Okkalapa Township.

In the first cash donation, 47 wellwishers donated 52 gold plates worth K 33.8 million.

Next, the coordination meeting of the central committee followed at the Buddha Footprint Hall.

Chairmen and officials of the subcommittee reported on their respective sectors.

In his speech, the minister stressed the need to strive for completion of renovation tasks before rainy season, supervise minimizing loss and wastage in the tasks and safety of installation of power lines, and em-phasize on renovation tasks without losing its original handicraft.

Minister attends work coord meeting

Yangon, 4 Feb — The Ministry of Home Affairs held its coordination meeting of the central farming and production supervisory committee at Prisons Department this morning, with an address by Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Maung Oo.

During the meeting, Director-General of Prisons Department U Zaw Win and directors briefed the minister on cultivation of paddy and production, growing of other crops and condition of breeding and production.

In connection with the reports, the minister gave instructions on utilization of good strains, reduction of loss and wastes and high yield and made arrangements to fulfill the requirements.

Education Minister meets faculty members

Yangon, 4 Feb— Minister for Education Dr Chan Nyein, accompanied by Director-General of Higher Education Department (Lower Myanmar) U Zaw Htay, visited Dagon University this morning.

Pro-Rector U Hsan, Professors and heads of department reported on research work, academic matters and use of teaching aids. The minister fulfilled the requirements.

Next, the minister visited Yangon Institute of Economics (Ywa-thagyi). Rector of the University Dr Kan Zaw, Professors and heads of department reported on academic and management matters. The minister called for nurturing qualified faculty members, extensive use of language labs and practical teaching of science subjects.

On arrival at Yankin Education College, the minister was briefed by the principal U Me Aung and teachers on academic matters. The minister called for nurturing qualified teachers, full supply of teaching equipment and turning out brilliant students. Later, the minister visited Yangon West University where the pro-rector reported on management and academic matters and research work.

The minister stressed the need for conducting research work that serves the State’s interest, and cooperation between the universities in teaching related subjects.

Korean football team arrives

Yangon, 4 Feb— The University of Ulsan FC of the Republic of Korea led by Mr Dong Young Kim arrived here by air yesterday to play friendly matches against football clubs of the Myanmar League under Myanmar Football Federation (MFF). They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by officials of Ministry of Sports and responsible persons of MFF.

The Korean football club comprises 30 members — four members of the administrative board and 26 football players. The team will play soccer friendly against Finance and Revenue Club at 3:30 pm on 5 February and Commerce Club on 6 February at Aung San Stadium.

Commander inspects factories in Mawlamyine Industrial Zone

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Feb — Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Brig-Gen Thet Naing Win arrived at Phayagon Village Basic Education Primary School in Mawlamyine Township on 27 January afternoon. Mawlamyine District PDC Chairman U Maung Maung reported on construction of a two-storey school building. The commander gave necessary instructions and inspected construction work.

Next, the commander viewed the assembling of light trucks and machine parts at Shinche auto factory in Mawlamyine Industrial Zone and left necessary instructions.

On arrival at the crumb rubber factory of Ever Flow River Manufacturing Co Ltd, the commander was briefed by Manager U Myint Oo on production process, packaging and exporting of rubber.

The commander called for boosting producing to exceed the target.

The factory produces 100 tons of rubber per year and it is arranging to produce 900 tons of rubber per year during the project season.

Commander looks into development tasks in Htantabin Township

Yangon, 4 Feb—Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win this afternoon inspected Kogyi sluice gate being implemented by the Irrigation Department near Htantabin, Htantabin Township, Yangon North District.

At the briefing hall of the project, Director of Irrigation Department U Kyaw Thein reported on facts about the project, progress of work and future tasks, Assistant Director of Water Resources Utilization Department U Htay Lwin on water supply to the farmlands and Chairman of Htantabin Township Peace and Development Council U Tha Noe Aung on cultivation of summer paddy and availability of water to the commander, and officials gave supple-mentary reports.

The commander gave instructions on soonest completion of the work, wider use of water pumps and attended to the needs.

Next, the commander viewed the demonstration of the use of fertilizer at a farm land near the project and gave instructions on extensive use of fertilizer for boosting the per acre yield.

After that, the commander looked into thriving summer paddy, supply of water to the farmlands by water pumps and fulfilled the requirements.

On arrival at the Township People’s Hospital, the commander viewed round medical store, operation theater and medical ward and presented cash for the hospital.

Next, the commander proceeded to Htantabin Township Basic Education High School where he inspected computer application room, computer instruction room, language lab and reading corner and stressed the need for the teachers to make arrangements so that students can have a constant contact with teaching and learning aids.

Later, the commander met with departmental officials, social organizations and local people at the Township Peace and Development Council Office and gave instructions on regional development tasks.

Afterwards, the commander presented K 1 million donated by Yangon Division PDC, K 100,000 each by Yangon North District PDC, Htantabin Township PDC, U Ba Kyi-Daw Aye Myint and departmental staff of the Township towards the funds of the Township People’s Hospital.

After inspecting water supply to the farmlands, fertilizer making and thriving summer paddy Kyaunggon Village, the commander gave instructions on wider use of water pumps and attended to the needs.

Next, the commander looked into thriving summer paddy in Thanpayagon village, Ywathitgyi village and Hteintabin village in the township.

Volunteers participate in sanitation task

Yangon, 4 Feb— A voluntary sanitation to mark the 60th Anniversary Union Day which falls on 12 February 2007 took place at Theingyi Market in Pabedan Township this morning.

Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa inspected sanitation tasks.

The officials, members of different services and shopkeepers participated in the sanitation tasks in and around the market place.

At the market in-charge office of Theingyi Market Complex-B, an official briefed the vice-mayor on the sanitation tasks carried out. Next, the vice-mayor made arrangements to fulfil the requirements of the task.
