Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than on tour of Maubin, Pyapon districts  Officials urged to actively participate in development tasks in cooperation with local people

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 May - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by Chairman of Ayeyawady Division PDC Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and officials, met with departmental officials at the District PDC office in Maubin on 4 May morning.

Maubin Township PDC Chairman U Htay Win reported on facts about the township, 142,267 acres cultivation of monsoon paddy, 92,880 acres cultivation of summer paddy against the target of 119,676 acres, distribution of 200 baskets of physic nut seeds and scattering of 180 baskets of the seeds against the target of 3,000 acres and arrangements for cultivation.

In response to the reports, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than said it is learnt that agriculture and livestock breeding is booming in Maubin Township. With a view to meeting the requirement of rice for the growing population, paddy cultivation is annually extended, quality strains are provided and modern cultivation methods are disseminated. It is necessary to engage in triple cropping in a year. It is also required to extend the cultivation of gram, edible oil crops, Thit Hseint and pepper that are included in the 10 major crops. The district and townships in Ayeyawady Division are to try to meet the target cultivation of 500,000 acres of physic nut for bio-diesel. He added for ensuring the rule of law and peace and stability of the state, economic growth and development of human resources, the government is accelerating the 24 special development regions project and the five rural development tasks. As a result, fruits of development can be seen across the nation. In conclusion, he urged the officials to actively participate in development tasks in cooperation with the local people.

Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than met officers and other ranks and their family members at the local battalion in Maubin Township. He spoke of the need for the improvement of the family income, and their welfare tasks and active participation of the public in the nation-building tasks. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party visited Maubin paper mill, inspected production process and gave necessary instructions to officials. The mill will be able to produce 3000 MT of paper per year. He also visited Kyonsok river-water pumping project in Kyonsok Village near Kyaiklat River in Maubin Township. Officials reported on data of the project, progress in construction of the river-water pumping station. On completion, the project will benefit 9000 acres of farmlands.

Afterwards, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party attended a ceremony to grow physic nut saplings held in Kyaiklat township. First, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and Commander Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung presented physic nut saplings to the township government departments and social organizations. Next, they encouraged those present growing the physic nut plants. Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party attended the opening of Lanmadaw tarred road and U Sanda tarred road in Kyaiklat township. The roads link Kyaiklat and Pyapon. Then they viewed the development of Kyaiklat. They also attended the opening of Chaungdwin tarred road in Ward-1 in Pyapon, and cordially greeted local people.

Later, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and party met with service personnel at the Pyapon District PDC office. The council chairman reported on growing of crops and tasks being carried out for economic, education, health and social sectors. Pyapon District PDC Chairman U Myo Chit reported on data of the district, cultivation of 832,184 acres of monsoon paddy and 355,463 acres of summer paddy, 408.77 of rice sufficiency in 2006-2007 growing of 682 acres of physic nut and future work. Then, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than stressed the need for cultivation of sunflower, extended cultivation of physic nut and efforts for the success of the projects. Next, he cordially greeted those present.

Commander, Minister inspect factories in Sagaing Division

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May - Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Tha Aye and Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung inspected sales of goods at Win Thuza Shop in Monywa on 4 May.

The minister instructed service personnel to sell goods to villages.

At Dyeing and Printing Factory (Monywa) of Myanma Textile Industries, the commander and the minister inspected the production process. The minister gave instructions on production of textile with fancy designs and patterns.

In Indaing Village of Monywa Township, they offered robes and alms to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ankura of Kawwidayama Monastery.

Patron of Sagaing Division Union Solidarity and Development Association Commander Maj-Gen Tha Aye and Secretariat Member of USDA Minister U Aung Thaung met with members of USDA, local people, Women's Affairs Organization and Maternal and Child Welfare Association.

The Secretariat Member explained arrangements for supply of power with the use of bio-gas to Indaing Village, renovation of the post-primary school and donation of 60 lamp posts. Next, the commander and the minister presented sports gear to local people.

The commander and Chairman of Industrial Development Committee Minister U Aung Thaung inspected tasks of Foundry and Machine Tools Factory of Thiha Tun Co Ltd in Monywa Industrial Zone.

They viewed 82 kinds of machinery, pig iron rotary tiller and draw bars at the warehouse, manufacturing of agricultural equipment and light truck frames.

At the contract signing ceremony to purchase small tractors, Chairman of the company U Aung Khant presented the contract to the farmers.

The commander and the minister viewed demonstration of the small tractors. They looked into functions of the Foundry Shop, Shake Out Section and Pit Mold Section.

At Chindwin Yadana Hall, the commander and the minister met industrialists. Factory Manager U Maung Maung of Thiha Tun Co Ltd explained production, innovative measures and investment of the company. The minister urged those present to strive for development of the industrial zone and manufacture import-substitute machines and machine parts.

The minister proceeded to Textile Factory (Sagaing) in Ywathitgyi of Sagaing and inspected production process of the factory.

After inspecting 735 items of spare parts manufactured at the factory, the minister gave instructions and presented cash rewards to the outstanding employees.

At the briefing hall, the minister heard reports on arrangements for meeting the production target of the factory in 2007-08, strength of service personnel and growing of long staple cotton. Managing Director U Oo Thein Maung of Myanma Textile Industries gave a supplementary report.

Later, the minister instructed officials to make efforts for operating of the factory and meeting the target.

New rainfall record in Bago

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May - Meteorology and Hydrology Department today announced that 227 mm (8.94 inches) of rainfall recorded in Bago at 09:30 today is the new maximum rainfall record within 24 hours for the month of May in 42 years. The previous maximum rainfall was 172 mm (6.77 inches) recorded on 5 May 1982.

Roads opened in two townships in Ayeyawady Division

Yangon, 6 May - Central Executive Committee Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt attended the opening ceremony of Zibyukyun-Thazinyekyawrural gravel road in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, this morning.

The road, over two miles long and ten feet wide, was built by Nyaungdon Township Development Affairs Committee at a cost of nearly K 29 million.

At a meeting with local people, the minister fulfilled their requirements.

The road ensures a direct link for 8,663 people of 10 villages to travel to Yangon-Pathein highway and benefits their social, education, economic and health sectors.

Accompanied by officials, the minister attended the opening of Bo Minyaung tarred road in the township. The committee spent K 12.8 million on building the road, 3,200 feet long and 12 feet wide.

Minister Col Thein Nyunt also attended the opening of Ingyin road in Pantanaw. The road is 1,165 feet long and 12 feet wide. The Pantanaw Development Affairs Committee spent over K 5 million to build it.

Supervisory Office of Confluence Region Hydropower Project opened

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 May - Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, Minister for Electric Power No 1 Col Zaw Min, Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint and Deputy Minister for Electric Power No 1 U Myo Myint attended the opening ceremony of Supervisory Project Office (Myitkyina) for Maykha and Malikha Valley and Confluence Region Hydropower Projects and Chibwe Creek Hydropower Project, at Sitapu Ward of Myitkyina on 1 May.

The commander gave an opening address, and Vice-President Mr Shi Chengliang of China Power Investment Corporation and Project Manager Mr Niu Xinqiang of CISPDR gave speeches.

Next, the commander and Vice-President Mr Shi Chengliang formally opened the signboard of the project office.

Afterwards, Commander Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister Col Zaw Min, Vice-President Mr Shi Chengliang, Managing Director U Tun Myint Naing of Asia World Co and an official of CPI Southern Branch cut the ribbon to open the project office.

The commander, ministers and party proceeded to Tarpein (1) hydropower project, 33 miles from Bhamo, near Kalon Village.

Vice General Manager Mr Xiong Heng Xi of Central China Power Grid (CCPG) explained matters related to the project. Deputy Minister U Myo Myint gave a supplementary report. Minister Col Zaw Min presented the fruit basket to the Chinese technicians.

On completion, the power plant of Tarpein (1) Hydropower Project will generate 240 megawatts and produce 1,081 million kwh yearly.

Minister goes on inspection tour of foodstuff, textile industries

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung went on an inspection tour of Virginia Factory of Myanma Foodstuff Industries in Pakokku Township, Magway Division on 3 May.

After inspecting storage of tobacco leaves, the minister was conducted round the factory by Managing Director U Thaik Tun and officials. Next, the minister fulfilled the requirements of the task.

Upon arrival at Dyeing and Printing Factory (Pakokku) of Myanma Textile Industries, the minister looked into printing works and gave instructions on booting production of the factory installed with machine parts.

Next, the minister oversaw production process at Textile Factory (Pakokku) and gave instructions on measures to be taken for manufacturing products to exceed the target and continuous run of the machines.

Afterwards, the minister met with officials concerned and urged them to discharge duties assigned for realization of the target of the factory and raise productivity of the factory and presented cash rewards to outstanding staff.

The following day, the minister inspected production process of fine cloth at Garment Factory (Pakokku), Win Thuza Shop (Yesagyo) and Textile Factory (Salingyi). The minister urged officials concerned to make efforts for raising productivity to exceed the target. Next, the minister presented cash rewards to outstanding staff and certificates of one-step promotion appointment to them.

Certificates of honour, prizes presented to mark 61st Anniversary Fire Services Day

Yangon, 5 May - Organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, a ceremony to present certificates of honour and prizes was held at the hall of Fire Services Department in Mayangon Township this morning, with an address by Minister for SWRR Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe.

Present on the occasion were Director-General of FSD U Myint Tun, Director-General of Immigration and National Registration Department U Maung Maung Than and officials, guests, donors and members of Fire Brigade.

First, the minister presented cash awards and certificates of honour to outstanding service personnel. Next, he accepted K 4.703 million donated by wellwishers and handed certificates of honour to them.

Afterwards, the minister gave certificates of honour to Factory Manager U Khin Maung Nyunt of Science Equipment Workshop, U Kyaw Naing Oo of East West Marine Co Ltd, Assistant Lecturer Daw Yi Yi Thin of University of Culture and staff of Forever Group Co Ltd.

Director-General U Myint Tun of FSD then presented certificates of honour to outstanding service personnel. Director (Headquarters) U Zaw Min handed prizes for FSDs from states and divisions and so did Director (Lower Myanmar) U Zaw Win.

Next, Director (Upper Myanmar) U Min Swe gave cash rewards to outstanding members of Fire Brigade. After the ceremony, Fire Brigade members demonstrated fire fighting drill.

Minister visits Donthami river water pumping project site

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May- Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Htay Oo visited the project site for construction of Donthami river water pumping station near Zaymathwe Village in Thaton Township on 30 April.

The project is being undertaken by the Water Resources Utilization Department.

At the briefing hall, Acting Managing Director U Hla Myint of the department briefed the minister on construction tasks.

Next, Assistant Director U Aung Win Hlaing of the department reported to the minister on water supply tasks.

After hearing the reports, the minister visited the site of main river water pumping station and Zaymathwe confluence.

CSSTB Chairman inspects examination centres

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May- Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyun and members visited nine examination centres at BEHSs and BEMSs here today where candidates were doing the written test.

CSSTB invited candidates for vacant seats of assistant manager of Myanma Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs to participate in the qualification test.

A total of 2, 282 candidates sat for the exams.

Vice-Mayor inspects tax-free markets

Yangon, 5 May- Vice-Chairman of YangonCity Develop-ment Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa together with departmental officials inspected tax-free markets inShwepyitha, Hline-thaya, Kamayut, Tamway and Yankin Townships today.

Next, the vice-mayor met with officials at the office of Myanmar Rice and Paddy Dealers Association and fulfilled the requirements.

Minister receives Singaporean guests

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 May- Mr Jimmy Chang, Managing Director of Ntegrator Pte Ltd of Singapore, called on Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint at his office here today.

Also present at the call were Director-General Dr Thein Tun of Electric Power Department, Managing Director U Tin Aung of Electric Power Supply Enterprise, Chief Engineer U Aye Thaw of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise and officials concerned.

Matters coordinated to produce locomotives, machine parts locally

Yangon, 6 May- Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin met with technicians and proprietors at Insein Locomotive Shed in Insein Township on 4 May. He stressed the need for boosting production of machines and their parts to meet the set standards. Next, he praised the local technicians and entrepreneurs for their efforts to produce locomotives and spare parts. Then he called for more efforts for boosting production and production of quality machines.

The general manager of the shed reported on assembling of new locomotives and machine parts and assistance to be provided by the shed. Retired Associate Professor U Nyunt Htay (Metalogy Department) of Yangon Technological University, technician U Myint Zaw of Trust and Development and other technicians and entrepreneurs took part in the discussions. Later, the deputy minister and the technicians and entrepreneurs viewed the machines and machine parts.

Artificial Turf Hockey Pitch opened

Yangon, 6 May - A ceremony to open the artificial turf hockey pitch was held at the pitch in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this afternoon.

Vice-President of Myanmar Hockey Federation U Kyaw Naing extended greetings and explained matters on the artificial turf hockey pitch.

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, President of Myanmar Hockey Federation Brig-Gen Myint Soe, Director-General U Thaung Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department and Bangladeshi Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Mohammed Khairuzzaman formally opened the pitch.

Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win unveiled the signboard of the pitch.

After the opening ceremony, two tentatively selected hockey teams demonstrated as friendly match. The commander presented prize to these teams.

The pitch including training ground, 120 metres long and 60 metres wide, was constructed under the friendly relationship programme between the Union of Myanmar and the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Also present on the occasion were Vice-Chairman of MOC Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and officials.

USDA members urged to increase efforts for regional development tasks

Yangon, 6 May - CEC member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint together with the secretary of Bago Division USDA met with departmental officials, members of USDA and social organizations at Thanatpin Township USDA office yesterday morning and discussed regional development tasks.

The CEC member urged them to increase the efforts in carrying out public welfare.

Next, the CEC member accepted membership applications of five village-tracts and presented cash assistance for Thanatpin Township USDA to the secretary.

The CEC member also met with the secretary, executives and members of USDA and organizers at Hlegu Township USDA office.

After hearing reports on rural development tasks, the CEC member gave necessary instructions.

Certificates presented to participating organizations

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 May - Under the ASEAN medals programme 2007, a ceremony to present certificates to factories, buildings and projects that are selected tentatively to take part in the best energy management contest, energy efficient buildings contest and renewable energy project contest was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Energy, here, yesterday.

It was attended by Deputy Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Than Htay, Directors-General and Managing Directors of the ministry, members of contest scrutinizing national committee, personnel of Myanmar Engineering Association, responsible persons of the respective organizations and guests.

The deputy minister for energy delivered a speech on the occasion.

Next, Joint-Secretary of the national committee U Win Khine gave accounts on the contests and Director-General U Soe Myint of Energy Planning Department reported on arrangements to take part in the competition.

Later, the deputy minister presented certificates of honour to officials of the respective organizations. On behalf of the organizations, General Manager U Tin Maung Aye of Fame Pharmaceutical Factory spoke words of thanks.
