Lt-Gen Ye Myint attends physic nut growing ceremony, cash donation ceremony for construction of Bawditahtaung Laygyunsakkya Standing Buddha Image

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by Sagaing Division PDC Chairman North-West Command Commander Maj-Gen Tha Aye, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Maung Ohn, Brig-Gen Kyaw Oo Lwin of Kalay Station and departmental officials, arrived at the physic nut plantation of the local battalion on 30 May morning. Maj Sein Tun reported on growing of physic nut plants. In 2006, 105 acres of physic nut were cultivated exceeding the target of 75 acres and in 2007 6.5 acres of physic nut have been grown against the target of 45 acres. Next, they visited the physic nut plantation of the local battalion.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party attended a physic nut plant-growing ceremony of Monywa Station held near the airport. At the briefing hall, Lt-Col Kyaw Kyaw Oo report on progress in cultivation of physic nut and the commander gave a supplementary report. Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party grew the physic nut plants and greeted those present growing the plants. A total of 12000 plants were grown on 10 acres of land. In 2006, 2156.18 acres of physic nut were cultivated exceeding the target of 1925 acres and in 2007, 348.5 acres of physic nut have been grown against the target of 1925 acres. At local battalions and units under North-West Command, in 2006 10748.96 acres of physic nut were cultivated exceeding the target of 10000 acres and in 2007, 1485 acres of physic nut have been grown against the target of 10000 acres. Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party also visited physic nut plantations of the local battalion and left necessary instructions. They then visited the paddy field of the local battalion.

On arrival at the briefing hall of the site for construction of the Union Highway (road section between Monywa Home for the aged and Kyweye junction, Lt-Gen Ye Myint heard reports by officials on progress in construction work. Commander Maj-Gen Tha Aye gave a supplementary report. He next inspected the road section between Dawnachan Yesin and Hmyinttin road and construction work. After inspecting the road sections, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party visited Bawditahtaung Monastery and paid homage to State Ovadacariya Maha Jotika Rama Monastery Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Kaveinda.

Afterwards, they attended a ceremony to donate cash for construction of Bawditahtaung Laygyun-sakkya Standing Buddha Image and a ceremony to donate rice, edible oil and medicine. The Sayadaw invested the congregation with the Five Precepts. Lt-Gen Ye Myint offered alms to the Sayadaw. The commander and wife donated alms to the Myoma Shwegu Monastery Sayadaw and the deputy commander and wife and senior military officers to members of the Sangha. From 1993 to 2007, K 695.715 million has been donated and today's donations were K 295.2 million totaling K 990.916 million. Today's other donations include 143 bags of rice, 60 viss of edible oil and medicines.

At the briefing hall for construction of the Buddha image, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party heard reports on construction work and installation of lifts. The commander gave a supplementary report and Lt-Gen Ye Myint stressed the need for timely completion of the Buddha image meeting the set standard and worksite safety. Responsible persons reported on construction tasks with the help of charts. Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected construction of platform and arrangements for greening of the environs of the pagoda.

Later, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party proceeded to the briefing hall of the site for construction of Bawditahtaung Dam. Director U Soe Nyunt of Sagaing Division Irrigation Department reported on facts about the project and construction work. Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected construction tasks and fulfilled the needs. The dam will be 670 feet long and 75 feet high. It can store 683 acre feet of water and irrigate 100 acres of farmlands.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party visited the iron foundry and machine parts factory of Thiha Tun Co in Monywa Industrial Zone and inspected production process and rice cookers, steel cupboards, light truck die & frames, 1 ton high frequency furnaces and other machine parts. Factory Manager U Maung Maung reported on production line and production of machine parts. The commander gave a supplementary report. Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Ye Myint said he was delighted to know that Monywa Industrial Zone is producing four-wheel tractors. Then he called for production of quality machines and cultivation of vegetables and fruits in the compound of the zone.

Later, Lt-Gen Ye Myint met with officials at the guest house of Monywa Station and discussed regional development work and tasks to be carried out by related ministries. The commander gave a supplementary report. Then, Lt-Gen Ye Myint and party went to Pakokku.

Lt-Gen Maung Bo attends inauguration of Paingkyon Bridge in Hlaingbwe TownshipLocal people to organize remnant armed groups to make peace with government and to join hands with government, Tatmadaw and people in undertaking all-round development of Kayin State

NAY PYI TAW, 2 June - A ceremony to inaugurate Paingkyon Bridge was held in Paingkyon of Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State, yesterday morning, attended by Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministryof Defence. On the occasion, Chairman of Mon State PDC Commander of South-East Command Maj-Gen Thet Naing Win delivered an address. He said that the State Peace and Development Council had laid down 12 objectives upholding Our Three Main National Causes and is building the peaceful, modern and developed nation with a view to enabling the nation to keep abreast of other nations, strengthening the national economy and ensuring uplift of living standard of the people.

Seventy per cent population of the nation are living in rural regions. Therefore, the government is giving priority to undertakingof five rural development tasks, so the rural people enjoy development fruits. In addition, the gov-ernment had designated 24 special development regions and is striving for equitable development of all parts of the nation with added momentum. Kayin State is one of the 24 special development regions.

Therefore, the government had set the plan to develop Kayin State in harmony with that of other States and Divisions.

In accord with the guidance of the Head of State, Paingkyon Bridge was put into service. The bridge is the 225th facilities of its kind in the entire nation after 1988 and the 6th in Kayin State.

Thanks to completion of the bridge, local people will have easy access to surrounding villages in addition to Kawkareik and Myawady in all seasons.

The people in Paingkyon region can travel to other states and divisions through Hlaingbwe and Hpa-an. As the State Peace and Development Council had set the plans and is making utmost efforts for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation in a short time, remarkable progress can be witnessed in the whole Union including Kayin State.

The persons with negative views are turning a blind eye to development of all states and divisions.

Especially, it is known to all that those who relying on external elements, acting as stooges, are making slanderous accusations against the government through foreign broadcasting media.

At a time when the people in the whole country enjoy fruits of development and prevailing peace and stability, Kayin State lacked development due to inability to restore peace and stability.

Therefore, the local people are to organize the remnant armed groups to make peace with the government and to join hands with the government, the Tatmadaw and the people in undertaking all-round development of Kayin State. If eternal peace prevails in the region, Kayin State will be able to engage in development tasks with momentum.

Paingkyon Bridge, 1,170 feet long, is linking Upper Paingkyon and Lower Paingkyon. Local people can travel to Nabu, Pata, Htawtkawkoe, Kawkareik, Myawady and border areas through Upper Paingkyon. Furthermore, they can also go to other parts of the nation through Kawkareik and Hpa-an at any time.

In the construction sector, Kayin State has up to 526 miles and one furlong of roads from 399 miles and three furlongs in 1988. In addition, village-to-village roads and village-to-town roads have been constructed in the state. Moreover, two bridges across Thanlwin River - 2,255 feet long Thanlwin Bridge (Hpa-an) and 1,200 feet long Gyaing Bridge (Kawkareik) - have been built. So far, a total of 1,070 large and small bridges have been built including Hlaingwa Bridge in Kawkareik Township and Dawlan Bridge in Hpa-an District. In conclusion, the commander urged the local people to maintain the bridge for its durability.

Chairman of Kayin State PDC Brig-Gen Zaw Min delivered a speech. He said that the local people enjoy fruits of transport sector through village-to-village roads and village-to-town roads constructed in 2,089 villages of seven townships in Kayin State. As a result, Paingkyon region will have the speedy flow of commodity. In conclusion, Brig-Gen Zaw Min thanked the government for construction of the bridge and urged the local people to safeguard and maintain the bridge for its durability.

Kayin State Superintending Engineer U Ohn Han of Public Works reported on construction of the bridge. A local spoke words of thanks.

Next, Maj-Gen Thet Naing Win, Brig-Gen Zaw Min and U Ohn Han formally opened the bridge. Lt-Gen Maung Bo unveiled the plaque of the bridge.

Also present on the occasion were departmental officials, members of social organizations, students and local people.

After sprinkling scented water on the plaque, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party inspected the bridge.

Paingkyon Bailey Bridge is 1,170 feet long and 14 feet wide. Its clearance is 15 feet high. The bridge can withstand 13-ton loads.

Secretary of SSMNC Ponnamayama Zaykyaungtaik Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Osadabhivamsa honoured

Yangon, 2 June - Nyaungdon Township Peace and Development Council organized a ceremony to honour Secretary of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Ponnamayama Zaykyaungtaik Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Osadabhivamsa of Nyaungdon who was offered Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika by the government was held at Zay Dhammayon in Ward 4 of Nyaungdon Township this afternoon.

First, the Nyaungdon Sayadaw was ushered into the Dyammayon.

Vice-Chairman of SSMNC Yenangyoung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Tejaniya administered the Five Precepts.

Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung supplicated on the religious affairs.

Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Htay Oo offered robes donated by SSMNC Joint-Secretary Kalewa Tawya Naga Cave Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Agga Maha Kammathanaçariya Dvipitakadhara Bhad-danta Jagarabhivamsa to the Nyaungdon Sayadaw.

Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung also presented alms donated by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San and family to the Nyaungdon Sayadaw.

Departmental heads and officials also donated provisions to members of the Sangha.

On behalf of the wellwishers, Assistant Director U Myint Maung of Township Develop-ment Affairs Committee handed over K 2 million to the Chairman of the Zaykyaungtaik Board of Trustees U Arnt Tin.

Joint-Secretary Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Manita-siribhivamsa delivered a sermon, and the con-gregation shared merits gained.

Health Minister inspects construction of buildings, health care services in Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June - Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint, Deputy Ministers Dr Mya Oo and Dr Paing Soe accompanied by directors-general, deputy directors-general and officials went to construction site of building (A), here this morning.

The minister heard reports on work by Deputy Director Dr Soe Lwin Nyein of Health Department. Later, the minister said the Ministry of Health and Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee have jointly carried out tasks for constructing fly-proof latrine and supplying safe water, and sanitation tasks.

Later, Secretary U Tun Kyi of Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee and managing director U Tint San of ACE Company reported on tasks to be carried out to the minister.

The minister and party inspected construction of fly-proof latrines, tasks for prevention against danger of mosquito and giving of health educative talks to the people.

Thereafter, the minister and party proceeded to construction of Hospital (1000-bed) of Special Development Project. The officials explained work being done of the project to the minister.

They inspected the site of constructing buildings for the Disease Control Division and gave instructions to the officials concerned.

Chartered Flight arrives

Yangon, 2 June - Supervised by Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and under the arrangements of Exotissimo Travel of Myanmar and Captain's Choice Tour of Australia, a B747-338 chartered flight of Qantas Airline carrying 247 passengers mostly Australians arrived at Mandalay International Airport from Phnom Penh of Cambodia this afternoon.

Those tourists will arrange package tours on the Mandalay-Mingun-Mandalay trip, the Mandalay-PyinOolwin-Mandalay trip and the Mandalay-Amarapura-Mandalay trip, and they will leave Mandalay International Airport for Hanoi of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on 5 June.

 Physic Commander looks into paddy harvesting, thriving sugarcane plantations

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June - Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Wai Lwin attended the harvesting of summer paddy plantation of farmer U Hla Maung in Thitlaylon Village of Pyinmana Township.

On the occasion, Assistant Director U Thein Htay of Pyinmana District Agricultural Mechanization Department handed over 15 paddy harvesters to Chairman of Pyinmana District Peace and Development Council U Khin Maung Zaw and local farmers.

The commander and party viewed paddy harvesting of workers of AMD with the use of harvesters and presented cash rewards to those workers. Next, the commander and party viewed threshing of paddy.

After the harvesting, 135 baskets of paddy per acre yield were produced.

The commander and party inspected thriving 27 acres of sugarcane plantation in Kyeein Village.

MWSF organizes coordination meeting for 2006-07 fiscal year

Yangon, 2 June - The coordination meeting of Myanmar Women's Sport Federation for 2006-2007 fiscal year was held at Olympic Hotel (Thuwanna) here yesterday afternoon, attended by Chairperson Daw Aye Aye of MWSF Central Work Committee and executives, members of the panel of patrons, wellwishers and guests.

First, Chairperson Daw Aye Aye delivered an address.

Next, Secretary Daw L Khun Yi reported on work done in 2006-2007 and future tasks. Chairperson Daw Aye Aye accepted K 3.9 million from the donors and presented certificates of honour to them.

Yangon Div organizes physic nut, monsoon tree planting ceremony

YANGON, 2 June - Physic nuts and monsoon tree planting ceremony was held at the junction of Pyidaungsu road and Ayeyawun road in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon East District this morning. Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win attended the physic nut growing ceremony and made a speech.

The commander presented physic nut seedlings, grafts and seeds to departments in the district.

Daw Mar Mar Wai, Patron of Yangon Division Women's Affairs Organization gave physic nut saplings, grafts and seeds to social organizations. The commander, wife and party sowed physic nut seeds and grafts into the bags. They later viewed growing of physic nuts. The commander and party attended the monsoon tree planting ceremony. Director U Khin Win of Yangon Division Forest Department reported on the tree planting ceremony for 2007.

The commander and wife presented trees to townships in the district and social organizations, and planted trees there. After that, the commander and party viewed physic nut plantations of industrial zones in the district Also present on the occasion were Secretary U Hla Soe of Yangon Division PDC and authorities concerned, departmental officials and social organizations.

Stipends presented to schoolchildren in Mayangon Township

Yangon, 2 June-Under the arrangements of Yangon Division Union Solidarity and Development Association, stipends were presented to Basic Education Primary Schoolchildren in Mayangon Township at Kyaikwaing Youth Training School of Social Welfare Department in the township today as part of the activity of School Enrollment Week.

Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin presented stationery and bags to the schoolchildren.

After that, wellwishers presented cash assistance to 323 schoolchildren in the township and No 25 Basic Education Primary School.

The mayor went to Government Technology Institute (Insein) at the corner of Baho road and lower Mingaladon road and inspected sanitation tasks being carried out by the staff of YCDC in the compound of the institute.

Educative talks given to mark World No-Tobacco Day

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June - The Health Sub-Working Group of the Social and Cultural Working Group under the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation and Lewe Township Women's Affairs Organization held the educative talks in commemoration of the World No-Tobacco Day 2007 at Golden Jubilee Hall of Basic Education High School No 1 in Lewe this morning.

Leader of the Health Sub-Working Group Dr Khin Than Oo gave an opening speech. Deputy Director (Admin) Dr Nyo Nyo Kyaing of Health Department explained matters related to health and social hazards of tobacco and facts about Control of Smoking and Consumption of Tobacco Product Law. The law will take effect this month and the people are to abide by the law comprehensively.

Later, she replied to the queries raised by those present.

Education Minister receives Cuban Ambassador

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 June - Minister for Education Dr Chan Nyein received Ambassador Mrs Maria Luisa Fernandez of the Republic of Cuba to the Union of Myanmar at his office here yesterday afternoon.

The minister explained development of education sector in Myanmar.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Education U Myo Nyunt and Director-General of Education Planning and Training Department U Bo Win.

MANA (Insein) reorganized

Yangon, 2 June - New executive members of Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association (Insein) were reorganized at the office of Insein Township Peace and Development Council today.

Secretary U Hoat Sun of Insein Township PDC made an opening speech. The secretary of the association reported on tasks of the association.

A total of nine patrons, a chairman, a secretary and 15 executive members were elected for MANA (Insein). The patrons, the vice-chairman and the secretary submitted reports on future tasks and fundraising.

Patron U Yan Naung and Chairman U Yin Kyaw of the association presented K 110,000 to the secretary of Insein Township PDC for the funds of MANA (Insein).

The association will organize basic education level essay, poem and poster contests to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and the prize presentation ceremony will be held on 26 June.
