National Convention final session begins on 18 July After
thoroughly reviewing all adopted basic
principles, detailed basic principles,some amendments, additions and
nullification to some of the points are to
be made to ensure that the Constitution is free from flaws and weaknesses

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June - The National
Convention Convening Commission held its 2/2007 meeting at the State Peace and
Development Council Office here at 7.30 am today.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of
the Commission Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen
Thein Sein said, the State Peace and Development Council, the Tatmadaw
government, laid down the seven-step Road Map and is constantly implementing it
for a smooth transition to a peaceful, modern and developed
discipline-flourishing democratic state in accord with the genuine wish of the
people.
The convening of the National
Convention, the first and most important step of the Road Map, to lay down and
adopt fundamental principles and basic principles, began in 1993. But for
certain reasons, it came to a halt in 1996. The government was able to resume
the National Convention on 17 May 2004. Up to now the National Convention has
been held for four times from that date.
The first time was held from 17 May
2004 to 9 July 2004; the second, from 17 February to 31 March; the third, from 5
December 2005 to 31 January 2006; and the fourth, from 10 October 2006 to 29
December 2006.
During the second session, the National
Convention adopted detailed basic principles for the chapter on the sharing of
the legislative power to be included in formulating the Constitution, and at the
third session, it adopted the detailed basic principles for the chapters on the
sharing of the executive and judicial powers.
At the fourth session, that was held
from 10 October 2006 to 29 December 2006, the detailed basic principles for the
chapters on the legislation of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, the Pyithu Hluttaw, the
Amyotha Hluttaw, and the Region or State Hluttaw, the Role of Tatmadaw, and the
Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens were adopted.
The panel of Chairmen has already
collected the suggestions and approvals of the delegates groups on the Work
Committee Chairman's clarification concerning the remaining chapters the
Election, the Political Parties, Emergency Provisions, Amendment of the
Constitution, the State Flag, the State Emblem, National Anthem and the Capital
and General Provisions, and is ready to present them to the delegates for
approval and adoption.
The National Convention will resume at
Nyaunghnapin Camp on 18 July 2007, and it will be the final session of the
National Convention.
At the final stage of the National
Convention, delegates will have to make some amendments, additions and
nullification to some of the points after thoroughly reviewing all the adopted
fundamental principles and detailed basic principles to ensure that the
Constitution is free from flaws and weaknesses, in addition to adopting the
detailed basic principles of the remaining seven chapters.
Based on the previous experiences, the
NCC Commission, the NCC Work Committee and the NCC Management Committee and
their subordinate bodies will have to make arrangements for the success of the
National Convention. In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged officials concerned to
make arrangements in advance for extending invitations to delegates, timely
completion of all tasks in connection with the Convention, and providing
reception services, accommodations, health care services and welfare services,
and beautifying and cleaning the camp.
Secretary of the NCC Commission
Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan explained invitation arrangements
and financial matters.
Chairman of the National Convention
Convening Work Committee Chief Justice U Aung Toe explained matters to be
presented at the National Convention. Chairman of National Convention Convening
Management Committee Auditor-General Maj-Gen Lun Maung presented maintenance
work and camp beautification programmes.
Members of the Commission, gave
suggestions for the successful convening the National Convention. Secretary-1
Lt-Gen Thein Sein fulfilled the requirements. The meeting ended later in the
morning.

Lt-Gen
Maung Bo on inspection tour of Mon, Kayin States

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June - Member of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence,
Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East
Command Maj-Gen Thet Naing Win, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Zaw Min and officials
of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental officials
arrived at Kway Wan Village in Mudon Township on 3 June and attended the rubber
planting ceremony.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo, the commander and the
deputy commander planted rubber saplings at the designated places and visited
the farmers and local people growing rubber saplings.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party then met the
local farmers. Chairman of Mudon Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw
Kyaw Maung reported on efforts for cultivation of rubber to reach the target of
1,100 acres and arrangements for cultivation in the villages.
Mon State Manager U Win Myint of Myanma
Agriculture Service reported on targets for cultivation of 400,000 acres in Mon
State, per acre yield, the types of rubber and production of rubber in the whole
state.
The three-year extended rubber
cultivation special project is being implemented to become rubber state under
the guidance of the Head of State.
The cultivation acreage in Myanmar is
728,327. Of them 311,251 acres are in Mon State. Lt-Gen Maung Bo urged the
farmers to grow more rubber for their long term benefit.
After the ceremony, Lt-Gen Maung Bo
viewed sample species of BPM-24 and RRIM-2001 rubber saplings. Next, he went to
Chaunbhnakhwa Village, Kyaikmaraw Township and greeted the villagers. He also
visited Thanpaya Village BEHS in Kya-in-Seikkyi Township, Kayin State, and
discussed regional development work with officials and the villagers.
On arrival at the site for land
reclamation near Thanpaya Village, Lt-Gen Maung Bo heard a report by Col Aung
Kyaw Nyein of Kya-in-Seikkyi Station on reclamation of land for paddy
cultivation, arragnments for drinking water and irrigation water supply and
construction of village-to-village roads. Lt-Gen Maung Bo spoke of the need to
reclaim more land and cooperate with authorities concerned in regional
development tasks. Of the 1,500-acre land reclamation project, 200 acres will be
reclaimed first in 2007. Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party inspected Darli wooden bridge
which is to be replaced with a new one. He stressed the need for ensuring road
safety.
Afterwards, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party
met officers and other ranks and their family members of Kya-in-Seikkyi Station.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo spoke about agricultural, livestock breeding, education, health
and staff welfare tasks and presented gifts to those present.
Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party visited the
township people's hospital where they inspected the women's and men's wards,
medical store, operation theatre and cost-sharing medicine shop. They then met
with departmental staff, social organizations and townselders at Zami hall of
Kya-in-Seikkyi. The Township PDC chairman reported on facts about the township.
Kayin State PDC Chairman Brig-Gen Zaw Min gave a supplementary report. Col Aung
Kyaw Nyein reported on arrangements for building self-reliant hydro-electric
power stations. Lt-Gen Maung Bo said with peace and stability prevailing in
Kayin State now, the government is providing necessary assistance for the
development of education, health, agricultural, livestock breeding and
communications sectors. So regional people are to strive for the development of
all sectors in cooperation with departmental officials and social organizations.
After that, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party
donated exercise books, stationery and school uniforms for the basic education
schools in the township. After paying homage to the Sayadaw of Maniyadana Myoma
Sarthintaik, Lt-Gen Maung Bo and party attended a physic nut growing ceremony of
Kya-in-Seikkyi Township. A total of three acres of physic nut plants were grown.
The township has targeted to grow 40,000 acres of physic nut plants. Later they
went to Mawlamyine in Mon State.

Special Refresher Course No 27 for basic education teachers
concludes Teachers urged to keep their commitment to promotion of education
system

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June - The Special
Refresher Course No 27 for basic education teachers was concluded at Central
Institute for Civil Services (Upper Myanmar) yesterday.
On hehalf of Chairman of Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Thein Sein, Chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr
Than Nyun delivered a concluding address.
A total of 947 trainees from Kachin,
Kayah, Chin, Sagaing, Magway, Mandalay, Shan (South), (North) and (East) states
attended the four-week course.
In his address, he urged trainees to
continue their efforts for educational reforms as contribution of teachers plays
an vital role in achieving in educational targets set by the Government.
It is an education that build
infrastructures for the future of a country and its people, he said. As reforms
in edcuation are farsighted measures of the Government, we all are to step up
our efforts for the educational reform with great diligence.
It is the duty of teachers to nurture
and turn out intellectuals and intelligentsias who can serve the interests of
the country and safeguard the future nation, he added. The future of the State
and the people is in the hands of today's youths. So, the education system is
responsible to train students to become people of high intelligence and high
morals. Teachers are to guide and improve students so that they can achieve
their goals in life.
The government has also revised the
curriculum of the basic edcuation high school students and they can choose the
subject they like best at the higher edcuation level.
In a bid to promote the educational
standard, it is important to creat opportunities for students so that they can
learn their specialzation deeply. Moreover, teachers should be qualified ones
and should keep a close watch on technological advances.
Teachers are to train students so that
they can learn higher education by themselves.
In conclusion, he urged trainees to
keep their commitment to the promotion of the edcuation system and to put their
energy into the promotion the system.

Sein, Dr Than Nyun awarded the outstanding trainees and presented completion
certificates to trainees. Afterwards, Dr Than Nyun cordially greeted the
trainees.

Commander drives stake to construct school building in Toungoo
Yangon, 5 June- A stake driving
ceremony for the two-storey building of Natsingon Basic Education High School
was held at the school compound in Toungoo Township on 29 May.
Chairman of Bago Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Ko Ko and officials
drove the stake into the ground.
Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Win Myint
briefed the commander on construction tasks of the school and financial matters.
Also present at the ceremony were
secretary of the Division Peace and Development Council U Pe Thein, members of
division, district and township Peace and Development Council and departmental
officials.
Afterwards, the commander met with the
trainees who will attend the University for Development of National Races and
the trainees who are attending the university.
The commander presented cash to the
trainees. On behalf of the trainees, a student of the BEd Course No 42 spoke
words of thanks.

Pakokku industrial zone projects under inspection
Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June - Minister for
Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin together with officials concerned went on an
inspection tour of Pakokku industrial zone of the Ministry of Industry-2 in
Myaing Township in Pakokku District in Magway Division on 2 June.
At the briefing hall, project director
U Tin Tun Aung briefed the minister on land preparation for construction of
project buildings, stockpile of construction materials and measures for supply
of electricity and water. Next, Managing Director U Aung Kyi of Myanma
Industrial Construction Services gave a supplementary report.
Next, Managing Director U Kyaw Win of
Myanma Machine Tool & Electrical Industries briefed the minister on
maintenance of machine tools sent to industrial zones and machine tools to be
imported.
After hearing the reports, the minister
stressed the need to implement project tasks laid down by the factory,
systematically compile the data on construction tasks,build warehouses to keep
machine tools, form the inspection team in advance to accept machine tools.
Next, the minister made arrangements for entrepreneurs to obtain permission to
own industrial land.
Afterwards, the minister and party
looked into progress in constructing project buildings, land preparation and
building of entrance roads to the factories. Next, the minister left
instructions on measures to be taken for occupational safety and efficient use
of fuel and power.

KOICA's final reports handed over to Myanma Railways
Yangon, 5 June- KOICA Myanmar Office
handed over the Final Reports on completion of the feasibility study project on
the Thailand-Myanmar railway section of the Singapore-Kunming Railway Linkage (SKRL)
Project to Myanma Railways, here, today. KOICA also presented Personal Computers
and accessories which were used during the project to MR. Present at the
ceremony were Resident Representative of KOICA and the General Manager and
officials of MR.
As part of the Korean government's
assistance programme for Initiative for ASEAN Integration, this project not only
contributes to the social infrastructure development of Myanmar but also
strengthens the prosperity of the railway sectors and accelerate ASEAN economic
integration.

Deputy Minister inspects construction of railroads
Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June- Deputy Minister
for Rail Transportation U Pe Than and officials inspected construction of
Sinthey bridge in Pyinmana and laying of rails on 1 June.
The 400-foot reinforced concrete
Sinthey bridge is one of the ten bridges that are 180-feet and above in
Pyinmana-Myohaung dual railroad construction project.
The deputy minister also inspected the
construction of new Pyawbwe-Phayangazu railroad. Pyinmana-Myohaung dual railroad
is 157.75 miles long and over 97 miles of rail tracks have been laid.

No outbreak of small pox in Myanmar
Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June - The news
published recently in a section of the Indian newspapers, and some web sites
covered reports of small pox outbreak in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The disease had been eradicated from
the world since 1970.
Following the Indian media reports, the
WHO country office has sent a mission to find out the veracity of the reports.
They found that 16 children - two in Nyila township, nine in Cox Bazar district
and five in Taknuf township of Bangladesh bordering with Maungtaw Township,
Rakhine State, Myanmar, had fever and blisters. Reports putting on the Internet
did not confirm whether the disease is smallpox or something else.
Health workers in Rakhine State have
conducted house-to-house visits to the areas in Rakhine State and but until now
they have found not a single case of smallpox. Health workers are on alert and
have kept on close watch on the disease in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships.
They are asked to screen the passengers at border check points, the Ministry of
Health said.

Nakata to show off super skills in fund-raising football match
Yangon, 5 June - Myanmar Football
Federation (MFF) will hold a fund-raising football match for the development of
youth football at Youth Training Centre (Thuwunna) on 7 June.
A team formed with former Myanmar
selected players will play the fund-raising match against Myanmar youth selected
team. Former Japanese national team selected playmaker Nakata will take part in
the match and show off his super skills.
Renowned Japanese national team
midfielder Nakata, who played for Perugia, Roma and Parma from Series-A, arrived
Myanmar on a private visit on 2 June and he will study traditional culture and
heritage of Myanmar.
The entrance fee for grand stand is K
1,000 and ordinary class, K 500.

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June-A ceremony to open
M.Ed Course, one year B.Ed Course No 17, two year B.Ed Combined Course No 4,
four year B.Ed Course No 42, Teachership Diploma Course No 6 and Middle School
Teachership Course No 17 for 2007-2008 academic year was held at the University
for Development of National Races in Ywathitgyi, Sagaing Township, Sagaing
Division yesterday morning with an address by Chairman of University for
Development of National Races Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen
Tha Aye.
Also present on the occasion were
members of Civil Service Selection and Training Board U Aung Myint and U Soe Oo,
members of UDNR Council, division-level departmental officials, guests, teachers
and trainees.
First, by Chairman of University for
Development of National Races Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen
Tha Aye made a speech on the occasion.
Next, Rector of UDNR U Zaw Min Thein
presented a report on courses.
After that, the Chairman presented
prizes to Kyansittha Company that won model company award for 2006-2007 academic
year and the ceremony ended.
Altogether 17 trainees are attending
first year M.Ed Course, nine second M.Ed Course, 55 one year B.Ed Course, 70
first year B.Ed Combined Course, 64 second year B.Ed Combined Course, 22
Teachership Diploma Course, 43 Middle School Teachership Course, 244 four year
B.Ed Course No 42, 242 four year B.Ed Course No 41, 231 four year B.Ed Course No
40 and 251 four year B.Ed Course No 39.
After the ceremony, the Chairman,
accompanied by members of CSSTB and officials, inspected thriving summer paddy,
mangoes and pepper grown in the compound of the university and water supply of
the water purifying plant and fulfilled the requirements.

Meetings kick off

Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals and 5th Working Group Meetings were opened
at Royal Kumudra Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw hotel zone today.
Acting Minister for Mines and Minister
for Industry- 1 U Aung Thaung delivered an opening address.
After opening the meeting, Minister U
Aung Thaung posed together with the senior officials of ASEAN.
At No-1 meeting hall, 5th Working Group
Meetings on Capacity in Minerals is held and 5th Working Group Mineral on
Information and Database at No-2 meeting hall re-spectively.
The second meeting session of 5th
Working Group Meetings on Sustainable Mineral Development and 5th Working Group
Meetings on Trade and Investment in Minerals will continue tomorrow and the
third session of the 8th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals will
continue on 7 June.

MMCWA donates medical equipment to Mingaladon Specialist Hospital
Yangon, 5 June - Myanmar Maternal and
Child Welfare Association contributed K 500,000 to the medical funds of
Mingaladon Specialist Hospital and medical item worth K 2 million to the
hospital today.
First, Dr Daw Tin Lin Myint,
Vice-President of MMCWA, explained the purpose of the donation and handed over
medical equipment and cash to Medical Superintendent Dr Aung Kyaw Oo.
After the donation, the Medical
Superintendent of the hospital spoke words of thanks. Also present at the
donation ceremony were specialists, mid-wives and doctors.

Palm oil vessel arrives Htidan port terminal
Yangon, 5 June- MT Countess Vessel
loaded with 5,700 tons of palm oil imported from Indonesia arrived Htidan Port
in Kyimyindine Township today.
More palm oil vessels are expected to
arrive the terminal in the near future.

Cash assistance for staff of A-G Office
Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June- A ceremony to
provide cash assistance for children of staff of the Auditor-General's Office
for 2007-2008 academic year was held at its office this afternoon.
Present were Deputy Auditor-General Daw
Thin Thin, Director-General U Myo Myint, deputy directors-general, directors,
deputy directors and staff.
The Deputy Auditor-General presented K
1.228 million for 88 schoolchildren.

MMPA to reconstitute executive committee
Yangon, 5 June - Under the supervision
of the Ministry of Information, Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayone will
reconstitute its executive committee at the hall of Myanma Motion Picture
Enterprise in Golden Valley of Bahan Township.
MMPA has invited all the members to
elect the executives to refconstitute the executive committee.
All levels will be elected from 12 to
15 June as follows:
1. (A) Industrial levels will be elected at 9 am on 12 June.
(B) Drama and backgound music levels will be elected at 12 noon on 12 June.
(C) Admistration, distribution and projectionist levels will be elected at 3 pm
on 12 June.
2. (A) Supporting performers levels will be elected at 9 am on 13 June.
(B) Editing and documentary levels will be elected at 12 noon on 13 June.
(C) Play and script levels will be elected at 3 pm on 13 June.
3. (A) Leading performers levels will be elected at 9 am on 14 June.
(B) Producers levels will be elected at 1 pm on 14 June.
4. (A) Video levels will be elected at 9 am on 15 June.
(B) Director levels will be elected at 1 pm on 15 June.

Prize winners awarded
Nay Pyi Taw, 5 June-The National
Commission for Environmental Affairs awarded the winners of 2007 World
Environment Day commemorative article and essay competitions at a ceremony held
at the Ministry of Forestry here this morning.
Chairman of the Commission Minister for
Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung delivered a speech. Resident Representative of the
UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Mr Tang Zhengping read out the
messages sent by UN General Secretary Mr Ban Ki-moon and UN Environmental
Conservation Programme Executive Director Dr Achim Steiner.
In the article competition (open),
first prize went to U Aye Myint (Geography), second prize to Mya Phu Ngon, third
prize to Ko Thet Oo (Myawady TV) and consolation prize to Ma Seinn Seinn
(Green). And in the essay competition, first prize went to Ma Aye Myint Myat Soe,
second prize to Ma Sandar Mon, third prize to U Tun Thein (Health Assistant) and
consolation prize to M Su Htaik Mon.
