In the process of transition to a new nation the entire national
people including teachers are to do their bit in the interest of the State and
the people keeping themselves free from personality cult and ism Special
Refresher Course No 12 for faculty members of universities and colleges
concludes
YANGON, 30 July— Chairman of Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Thein Sein this morning attended the conclusion ceremony of the Special
Refresher Course No 12 for faculty members of universities and colleges held at
the Nawarat Hall of Central Institute of Civil Service (Phaunggyi) in Hlegu
Township, Yangon Division, and made a speech on the occasion.
Also present on the occasion were
Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence, ministers, the Chief Justice, the
Attorney- General, the Auditor- General, the Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers,
members of Civil Service Selection and Training Board, departmental heads, the
rector of CICS (Phaunggyi) and heads of department, course instructors and
trainee teachers.
In his address, Chairman of Myanmar
Education Committee Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Thein Sein said that for faculty members of universities and colleges the
successful attending of the special refresher course means the dutifully
discharging of a task vested in them.
Each and every citizen is to do their
bit in discharging duty whether serious or not whenever they are assigned to.
Only then, will the nation develop, thereby contributing to sooner emergence of
a discipline- flourishing democratic nation the entire people long for, he
added.
At a time when the teachers are
studying the affairs of the State at the special refresher course with firm
determination and national outlook in order to be able to discharge duties
straightforwardly in the education sector the delegates from all walks of life
are holding discussions so as to shape the future of the State at the National
Convention, the first step in the process of smooth transition to a new nation.
He went on to say that when the
National Convention is completed there will be work programmes for the drawing
of an enduring State constitution, the approval of the State constitution by a
referendum and the election of representatives.
In the process of transition to a new
modern and developed nation the entire national people including all the
teachers are to do their bit in the interest of the State and the people keeping
themselves free from personality cult and ism, he noted.
In building a new modern and developed
nation, stability of the State, community peace and tranquillity and prevalence
of law and order are indispensable.
At the same time, development of
national economy and human resources development are also instrumental in that
regard.
Realizing that the education sector
plays a pivotal role in fulfilling such requirements all teachers are committed
to discharging a string of education duties assigned to them, he stressed.
Only when there is progress in the
education sector will the gap between rich and poor as well as development gap
among the global nations be narrowed. As a result, there will emerge a peaceful
and fair world.
With this concept, all the nations of
the world are striving with their own resources for promotion of their
education.
At a time when globalization is in
progress only those who are educated with a sense of national outlook will be
able to serve the national interest and stand tall among the international
community.
Therefore, the task for national
education promotion programmes is wide, subtle and full of national essence. It
is also a national task which is to be implemented for the brighter future of
the State and the people. Realizing that, all the teachers are to carry out the
tasks of education sector with a sense of duty.
Today is the time when efforts are
being made with own resources for the nation to keep abreast of the
international community.
In the process, human resources such as
intellectuals and intelligentsia like teachers, engineers, computer scientists
and physicians are badly in need.
The achievements in which the nation is
making progress in all spheres without foreign assistance can be attributed to
the efficiency of the people including intellectuals and intelligentsia.
This being the case, the intellectuals
and intelligentsia capable of shaping the future of the State and the nation are
to contribute their shares in the drive for development of the education sector.
The government is striving to build
political, economic and social foundations in consistency with the nation’s
historical traditions in order to catch up with the international community.
Those foundations can be built through the education sector. In addition,
constant learning society is being built to consolidate such good
foundations.
Therefore, it is necessary for
universities and colleges to upgrade and develop their school curriculums and
syllabuses in related subjects and branches of study in accord with the
international standards so as to meet the requirements of a future State. They
also need to conduct research to enable the students to learn their related
specialized subjects thoroughly. It is also required to develop and learn
various subjects related to IT, Economics, finance, management and productivity
in combination with the practical learning at worksites. Young people are to be
trained at their universities and colleges in order that they are familiar with
and can employ the systems of egovernment, e-commerce and e-banking when they go
into their professions after being graduated.
Today’s education sector has been
creating good learning opportunities for students and they can learn bridge
courses in order to develop their quality of education.
However, the education sector still
needs to pay special attention to fulfilling all the needs of direct links
between education and practical life, direct links between education and
practical worksites and socioeconomy of the State. Findings and research of
universities and colleges should be used effectively for the development of
human society. All the teachers are not only to learn constantly and conduct
research but also to train their pupils to raise their education standards and
then apply their skills when they enter their professions.
Only then can a constant learning
society be built. Nowadays, as the State’s education vision has met with
success to a certain extent, the nation is well on the way to reaching its
national education goal.
At such a time like this, faculty
members are to work hard by making use of educational opportunities in order for
the State to develop in its all aspects.
With a view to ensuring peace and
stability of the State and building a new modern, developed nation, State Peace
and Development Council is working very hard side by side with the people.
The government has carried out duties
that have been more difficult than usual to ensure stability and prevalence of
law and order. Joining hands with the people it has endeavoured to do away with
the evil legacy, armed conflicts and mutual mistrust among the national brethren
while building up national reconsolidation based on magnanimity, vision and
determination.
Infrastructures such as transport and
communications, education and health as well as irrigation networks, bridges,
international standard sea ports and airports have been built nationwide with
might and main from the state of general deterioration. Moreover, national level
projects have been implemented to see that all parts of the nation including
border areas achieve equitable progress with the aim of gradually narrowing the
development gap between the different regions.
In the economic sector, systematic
efforts have been made to introduce market economy from the centralized system.
The government has helped national entrepreneurs, who are out of practice for
long concerning business rules and procedures and international economic
practices, engage in international trade and commerce. It has also assisted in
the establishment of industrial zones, industrial cities and international
standard factories and mills.
At the same time, the government has
laid down national objectives in various fields including political and social
sectors and is implementing them most extensively for building an all-round
developed modern nation as desired by the people. While enhancing the value of
the Union and national interests, the government is striving for the emergence
of a new nation blessed with the attributes such as national solidarity,
national harmony, social justice, political stability and good governance.
Furthermore, it is endeavouring for the development of social spheres such as
education, health and fitness, higher standard of living of the peofrom ple,
community spirit, nationalism and Union spirit while nurturing the people to
adore and preserve national culture, take pride in one’s nation and people and
to have confidence in own social caliber with strong moral capability.
After building the firm foundation,
measures are being taken for smooth transition to disciplineflourishing
democratic nation through the sevenstep Road Map.
The democratic nation that we are
building will not be the same in terms of the form of the Western democracy.
However, our aspired democratic system
will cover the international norms such as liberty, justice, equality and the
rule of law.
Our desired democratic society is to
protect and safeguard the Union that we have inherited from our ancestors; is to
stay together sharing weal and woe and work together for the development of the
nation. The emerging democratic new nation will preserve and promote the
cultural heritage and uphold the Myanmar way of thinking and concept, social
norms and national character.
The government has been realizing the
lofty national objectives through the implementation of the seven-step Road Map.
At present, the National Convention, the first step of the Road Map, is in
progress and the work of laying down basic principles and detailed basic
principles will be completed soon.
The government and the entire nation
have made nationbuilding endeavours of immense magnitude and delicate nature day
in, day out for nearly two decades. Now, these efforts have begun to bear
fruits. The new peaceful, modern and democratic nation desired by the people has
come into shape and it is now in sight.
The entire people including the faculty
members are duty-bound to safeguard the results already achieved after
overcoming much difficulty.
The mass of people need to realize and
prevent the instigation and attempts to hinder progress of the seven-step Road
Map and they are urged to help accomplish
the transition to a new nation.
Hence, the faculty members are urged to
boost the standard of national education by imparting vision, experience and
knowledge to the people to enable them to differentiate right and wrong.
In conclusion, faculty members are
urged :—
— to widen the national outlook of
the people so as to preserve the good foundations for the stability, peace and
development of the State and perpetuity of the Union and at the same time to
make the people possess the capability and spirit to safeguard the national
interests and the people through the education sector;
— to dutifully carry out national
responsibilities for the successful realization of the tasks for the emergence
of peaceful, modern and discipline-flourishing democratic nation through the
education sector.
Later, the Secretary-1 presented awards
to the outstanding trainees and completion certificates to the trainee teachers
through respective group leaders. Then, he cordially greeted the trainees.
