Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than attends Communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Nov-The 59th Communal Kathina robes offering ceremony of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Bago took place at the monastery this morning, and member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence attended the ceremony and offered Kathina robes to members of the Sangha.

Also present on the occasion were Phaungdawthi Sayadaw of DaikU Township Shwegyin Nikaya Rattanyu Maha Nayaka Agga Maha Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pandita, Presiding Nayaka of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik Shwegyin Nikaya Upaokkatha Maha Nayaka Joint Shwegyin Sangha Raja Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Agga Maha Pandita State Ovadacariya Bhaddanta Jotipala and members of the Sangha, Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Ko Ko and wife, Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min, Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, departmental officials, wellwishers, disciples and guests. The ceremony was opened with the recitation of Namo Tassa three times.

Next, the congrega-tion led by Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and Commander Maj-Gen Ko Ko received the Five Precepts from Bhaddanta Pandita.

Afterwards, Super-visor Sayadaw of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik, on behalf of Bhaddanta Jotipala, gave Ovadakatha.

Later, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than supplicated on religious affairs and presented Kathina robes and offertories to Presiding Nayaka of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Jotipala.

Next, Commander Maj-Gen Ko Ko and wife, Minister Maj-Gen Aung Min and Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and wellwishers presented offertories to members of the Sangha.

Afterwards, Presiding Nayaka of Kyakhatwaing Pariyatti Sarthintaik Bhaddanta Jotipala delivered a sermon and Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than, the commander, the ministers and wellwishers shared merits gained.

The ceremony came to a close with the recitation of Buddha Sasanam Ciram Titthatu three times.

UMFCCI President meets Bangladesh guests

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Nov - President of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Win Myint met with President Mr Syed Mahmudul Hoque of Bangladesh Myanmar Business Promotion Council of Bangladesh together with Commerce Counsellor Mr Md Aftabuzzaman of the Embassy of Bangladesh at the UMFCCI building, here, on 30 October.

Also present at the meeting were responsible persons of Myanmar Rice Dealers Association, Myanmar Rice Millers' Association and Myanmar Rice and Paddy Producers Association.

They cordially discussed trade promotion between the two countries, trade of agricultural produce, personal goods, household goods, pharmaceuticals and construction materials.  

FM arrives back from Lao PDR

Nay Pyi Taw, 3 Nov - Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar U Nyan Win arrived back here this morning after attending the Eighth Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation held in Laung Prabang in Lao PDR on 30 and 31 October and paying an official goodwill visit to Lao PDR from 31 October to 2 November 2007 at the invitation of Dr Thongloun Sioulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao People's Democratic Republic.

During their stay in Laos, the Myanmar delegation led by U Nyan Win held the Eighth Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation on 31 October following the Senior Officials Meeting held on 30 October. During the meetings, Myanmar and Lao delegations reviewed progress of previous cooperation and explored ways to enhance cooperation in the future. At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed an Agreed Minutes of the Eighth Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

After the meeting, the minister and the delegation left Laung Prabang for Vientiane and called on Mr Choummaly Sayasone, President of LPDR and discussed with Dr Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs matters relating to the bilateral relations and cooperation. In the evening, Dr Thongloun Sisoulith hosted a dinner in honour of U Nyan Win and Myanmar delegates.

Yesterday morning, the minister and the delegation called on Mr Bousane Bouphavanth, Prime Minister of LPDR.

Members of the delegation, U Phae Thann Oo, Director-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, U Sai Thein Maung, Deputy Managing Director of Public Works, Lt-Col Win Min Tun of Ministry of Defence, Police Lt-Col Soe Myaing of Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Director U Soe Lynn Han and Assistant Director U Naing Htoon of Political Department and Head of Branch-1 U Soe Consul and Legal Affairs Department also arrived back here.

U Nyunt Hlaing, Myanmar Ambassador to Lao PDR, U Min Thein, Counsellor, and First Secretary U Zaw Win Tun also attended the Eighth Meeting of the Myanmar-Lao Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

Commander attends OPV feeding ceremony

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Nov - A ceremony to feed oral polio vaccine to children under-5 of regiments and units from Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana Station was held at No 7 Transit Centre (Nay Pyi Taw), here, yesterday.

It was attended by Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Wai Lwin and wife Daw Swe Swe Oo, staff officers of the command headquarters, the station commander and families of regiments and units.

The commander fed OPV to children.

Daw Swe Swe Oo and wives of senior military officers gave OPV to the children.

The commander and wife cordially greeted children and their mothers.

OPV were fed to 226 children in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon Station, 332 children in Nay Pyi Taw Lewe Station and 200 children in Taungnyo Station.

3rd Plenary Meeting of Sixth 47-member State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee 1-2 Dec

Yangon, 4 Nov - The Religious Affairs Department issued an announcement that the 3rd Plenary Meeting of Sixth 47-member State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee will be held on 1 and 2 December.

Invitations have been extended, and Member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee are to contact the Maha Nayaka Monastery on Kaba Aye Hill, not later than 27 November.

CEC member attends ceremony to enshrine religious objects in Maha Wizaya Pagoda in Kwanmoedein Village of Kayan Township

Yangon, 4 Nov - CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein attended the ceremony to enshrine religious objects in Maha Wizaya Pagoda built by the CEC member and family in the precinct of Sasana Zawtika Masoeyein Monastery in Kwanmoedein Model Village, Kayan Township, yesterday.

The CEC member and Chairman of Kayan Township Association U Than Lwin accepted K 22.45 million from wellwishers for construction of the pagoda, the umbrella and water tank including K 10 million for construction of Dhammathukha Refectory.

The wellwishers put religious objects into the reliquary of the pagoda.

Next, the CEC member met departmental personnel and local people and explained regional development. The Kayan Township Association donated K 7 million for construction of the station hospital in Kyinichaung Village-tract to officials.

At Kaingkon Monastery, the CEC member and family donated 10 bags of rice and President U Htay Myint of Myanmar Fisheries Federation, 50 viss of edible oil to the Sayadaw.  

Commander inspects paddy harvesting, ploughing

Yangon, 4 Nov - The monsoon paddy harvesting and cultivation of summer paddy was held at the farm of U Thaung Win at Barlar village in Hlegu Township today attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win.

The acting chairman of Hlegu Township PDC and the official of the Agricultural Mechanization Department briefed the commander on harvesting and ploughing in the township.

Afterwards, the commander and party viewed paddy harvesting and ploughing. While in Hlegu, the commander and party inspected the site of Sitpin river water pumping project under the Water Utilization Department. At the project site, the official of the Department reported to the commander on carrying out of the tasks.

On completion, the project will supply water to 1000 farmland near North Sitpin Village of Hlegu Township.

PRC to donate 10,000 tons of rice to ex-poppy growers

Nay Pyi Taw, 2 Nov - China-Myanmar senior officials' meeting on donation of 10,000 tons of rice by the People's Republic of China to peasants who gave up poppy cultivation from Myanmar border areas for the second time and cooperation in opium-substitute development projects was held at Shwethiri Hotel in Muse on 30 October.

Present on the occasion were Director-General U Than Swe of Department for Progress of Border Areas and National Races Development, Police Col Tin Maung Maung of Central Committee for Drugs Abuse Control, Director Lt-Col Yan Naing Oo of Directorate of Border Trade, Chairman of Muse District Peace and Development Council U Kyi Aye and officials and 14 Chinese officials of the People's Republic of China.

The meeting reviewed China's donation of 10,000 tons of rice to the peasants who gave up poppy cultivation for the first time in 2006-2007 open season. The meeting also discussed acceptance of 10,000 tons of rice to be donated by China in 2007-2008 open season and next programme to distribute rice, alternative agriculture and breeding tasks and bilateral ties.

The Chinese delega-tion who attended the meeting left for China on that day afternoon.

Minister inspects tasks of Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana Power Station

Nay Pyi Taw, 3 Nov-Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint accompanied by Managing Director U Tin Aung and officials of Electric Power Supply Enterprise inspected 230/33/11 KV Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana main power station on 31 October. Officials of the power station reported to the minister on supply of power from the station.

In his instructions, the minister said that Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana main power station is one of four important stations in Nay Pyi Taw. As the power station has been installed with one 100 mva transformer and one 60 mva transformer, electricity will be supplied to Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana region. Arrangements are to be made for linking power lines with one more 230 KV national grid from Shweli and Yeywa hydropower projects. Emphasis is to be placed on communication system at the power station and the head of the station is to supervise functions of the power station.

Next, the minister viewed transformers at the Switch Yard and input and output of power lines and left necessary instructions.

Ministry of Rail Transportation donates Kathina robes, alms to Sayadaws

Nay Pyi Taw, 3 Nov - The Second Communal Kathina Robes Offering Ceremony of the families of Ministry of Rail Transportation was held at the meeting hall of the ministry, here, this morning.

It was attended by members of the Sangha led by Vice-Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ñanavamsa of Thanlan monastery.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Ministers Thura U Thaung Lwin and U Pe Than, directors-general and managing directors under the ministry and staff.

Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min and wife Dr Daw Wai Wai Tha donated Kathina robes and alms to Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ñanavamsa. Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin and wife Dr Daw Yi Yi Htwe and Deputy Minister U Pe Than and wife Daw Cho Cho Tun, departmental heads and staff presented provisions to membes of the Sangha.

Later, the minister and wife and officials offered ?soon' to members of the Sangha.

Horizon League Basketball Tournament continues

Yangon, 4 Nov - the Horizon League Basketball Tournament, jointly organized by Myammar Basketball Federation and Horizon Int'l Education Centre, continued at Kyaikkasan Gymnasium, here at 12 noon today.

In the men's events Cow Boy crashed Kandawglay Club with 101-73 points; KKS passed through GB with 87-72 points; the Gyuts won over Shadows with 53-49; Blue Boy defeated Project-X with 59-29 and MOM saw off Rabbit Boy with 49-3. In the women's events, Sky won over Glory with 66-29.

In the men's event held yesterday, KKS won over Rabbit Boy with 81-51; Cow Boy defeated Filipino 65-40; Red Star passed through CCY with 65-50; Furious saw off Kandawgalay Club with 69-24 and WHO won over O' vickon with 46-37. In the women's event, Sky won over 82-56.

Blue Boy goes top in the men's group-A on 12 points, two points ahead of KKS on 10 points and GB on 10 points. Cow Boy siood atop in the men's group-B on 10 points, one ahead of Red Star and two points ahead of Furious on 8 points. Sky reached top in the women's group on 8 points, three points ahead of Precious on 5 points and five points ahead of Kandawgalay Club.

The tournament continues at 12.30 pm on 10 and 11 November.

Progress of Swa Creek Bridge supervised

Nay Pyi Taw, 4 Nov - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun yesterday morning inspected progress in construction of Swa Creek Bridge on Yangon-Toungoo-Mandalay Highway.

Senior Engineer U Kyaw Lin reported on construction of the bore piles on both sides of the bridge. The minister gave instructions on tasks to be carried out meeting set standards and attention to be paid to worksite safety.

Swa Creek Bridge is of reinforced concrete and it will be 270 feet long. The bridge will be 48 feet wide and it has four-lane motor road flanked by three-foot-wide pedestrian ways. The bridge can withstand 60-ton loads.

At the construction site of 126-foot Panlaung Bridge on Myingyan-Yaywun Road, the minister heard reports on maintenance of the bridge presented by Deputy Chief Engineer (Road) (Upper Myanmar) U Kyu Hin. After giving necessary instructions, the minister attended to the needs.

Air Bagan Ltd marks Third Anniversary with cash donation

Yangon, 4 Nov-The Air Bagan Ltd today donated cash to hospitals and social organizations in commemoration of its Third Anniversary which falls on 5 November 2007.

The company runs regular domestic and international flight services at reasonable prices. Since its birth, the company has donated cash to social organizations under its donation programme. Under the programme, the donation comes from the sale of tickets at the rate of one US$ each from an international passenger and K 500 each from a domestic passenger.

This year also, it donated K 5 million each to Children's Hospital, Hninzigon Home for the Aged, North Okkalapa Hospital, Mary Chapman School for the Deaf and Shwegondaing Orphanage. The cash donation was K 25 million in total.

Moreover, it also donated US$ 15,000 to Myanmar Development Foundation.
