Leading Committee for Development of Gems Industries holds meeting 4/2007 Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo calls for development of gems market, industries

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo urged departments concerned to make efforts for flourishing of gems market and convenience of gems merchants and to assist in the gems mining and development of gems industries.

In his address at the 4/2007 meeting of the Leading Committee for Development of Gems Industries held at Ministry of Mines here today, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo said that the government has made systematic plans to exploit the resources for the interest of the Satate and the people as the country is rich in natural resources such as gems, forest and oil.

The government issued rules and regulations for systematic development of gems industries including, exploration, mining and sales of jade and gemstones and production of pearl, he added.

He continued to say that as part of efforts for development gems industries, the Leading Committee for Development of Gems Industries has supervised the gems industries in accordance with laws and rules.

Moreover, in an attempt to relize a higher price for gems and to promote the sales of gems, the committee organizes gems emporium at least three times a year.

Thanks to the efforts of the government for the development of gems industries, the number of local and foreign gems merchants gathered at the gems emporiums and earnings from the emporiums have increased year after year, he said.

Afterwards, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint reported on condition of mining blocks, earnings from gems sales and arrangements for the mid-year sales of gems and jade this month.

Members of the leading committee also reported on matters related to development of gems industries.

After hearing reports, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo gave instructions and the meeting ended. The meeting was also attended by ministers, the chief justice, the attorney-general, the director-general of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, the managing director of Myanma Gems Enterprise and officials.

Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than meets service personnel in Bago Township

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by Bago Division PDC Chairman Southern Command Commander Maj-Gen Ko Ko and departmental officials met service personnel, social organizations and townselders at the city hall of Bago this afternoon.

First, the Bago Township PDC chairman reported on facts about the township and conditions of education, health, economic and social, agricultural and transport affairs and Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than gave necessary instructions. Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than said it is heartening that Bago Township was able to meet targeted cultivation of monsoon paddy but it is also necessary to meet the target of summer paddy cultivation. Officials concerned are to render assistance to the township for cultivating crops in the four main ways. Farmers are required to grow a high yield paddy strain like Yadanawin. In addition, the acreage of edible oil crops should be boosted, he said. He stressed the need for boosting cultivation of rubber that is an industrial crop. Efforts are to be made for meeting the targeted cultivation of 500,000 acres of physic nut. Measures are to be taken to improve the education, health and social sectors.

The State will develop only if there are essential requirements such as peace and tranquillity and the rule of law, strong national economy and human resources. All in all, the departmental personnel are to actively participate in the State's 24 special development region project and five rural development work project.

Next, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than cordially greeted those present. Bago Township has met the cultivation target of 1,200,000 acres of monsoon paddy and harvested 1084 acres.

It has been targeted to grow 22000 acres of summer paddy, 29,000 acres of beans and pulses and 14,090 acres of edible oil crops. A total of 44,463 acres of land have been put under rubber and 17,520 acres under physic nut.

This morning, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than and Commander Maj-Gen Ko Ko visited and paid homage to Bago Division Sangha Nayaka Committee Chairman Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja Okthathiri Monastery Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimala. They donated Kathina robes and K 1 million to the Sayadaw.

Billboards set up to hail USDA AGM-2007 in Yangon

Yangon, 5 Nov - To hail the USDA Annual General Meeting-2007, billboards were set up at designated places here this morning.

At 6 am Yangon Division USDA Joint-Secretary U Than Win and Chairperson of WAO Daw Than Sein held the ceremony to set up the billboards at Hanthawady Round-about, at 6.30 am Yangon Division USDA Executive U Tin Win and Dagon Township PDC Chairman U Thein Tun Oo in front of People's Park and at 7 am Yangon North District USDA Secretary U Nay Win and Kyauktada Township WAO Chairperson Daw Myint Myint in front of the City Hall here.

Present on the occasions were Chairman of Information Sub-committee for Or-ganizing the USDA Annual General Meeting Managing Director U Aung Myo Myint of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise and officials, members of division/district/township USDAs and social organizations and students.

Recent protests aimed at destroying peace and security of the peopleLocal residents of Kaya State, Mandalay Division condemn recent protests

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - The residents of Phasaung, Myothit, Shartaw, Bolakhe, Maese of Kaya State and those of Maha Aungmyay and Singaing townships in Mandalay Division who want stability of the State, the rule of law and community peace and tranquillity on 29, 10, 31 October and 4 November expressed their desire to denounce the recent protests as they believed that the protests that happened in September were aimed at destroying peace and security of the people.

They walked in procession in accord with the law after seeking permission from the authorities concerned.

Over 2500 local people of Phasaung and over 1000 residents of Myothit holding the placards that read Carry out the propagation of the Sasana and Beware of the saboteurs walked in procession on 29 October to condemn the recent protests. On 30 and 31 October, over 2500 people of Shardaw, 1500 people of Bawlakhe and over 1500 residents of Maese walked in procession around the town to denounce the recent protests.

In Mandalay, over 27,000 people of Maha Aungmyay and 270,00 residents of Singaing townships walked in procession around the town on 4 November to condemn the recent protests holding the placards that read We respect the UN and the UN Secretary-General, and We respect majority of Myanmar the entire people.

Transport Minister arrives back after attending ASEAN Transport Ministers Meetings

Yangon, 5 Nov - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Thein Swe, who led the Myanmar delegation, arrived back at Nay Pyi Taw this morning by air after attending the ASEAN-China Port Development and Cooperation Forum held in the People's Republic of China on 28 and 29 October, and the 13th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting, the 6th ASEAN-China Transport Ministers Meeting and the 5th ASEAN-Japan Transport Ministers Meeting held in Singapore on 1 and 2 November. They were welcomed back at Nay Pyi Taw Airport by Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint and departmental officials.

After attending the ASEAN-China Trade Fair and the ASEAN-China Port Development and Cooperation Forum held at Guan Gxi Whartan International Hotel in Nanning on 28 October, the minister and the delegates called on Mr Zeng Peiyan, Vice Premier of the PRC.

The minister and delegation members attended the 13th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting held in Singapore on 1 November. The meeting approved Road Map towards an ASEAN. On 2 November morning the minister and party attended the 6th ASEAN-China Transport Ministers Meeting and the meeting signed ASEAN-China Maritime Transport Agreement. In the afternoon, the minister and delegation members attended the 5th ASEAN-Japan Transport Ministers Meeting and ASEAN-Japan Regional Road Map for Aviation Security and Guidelines for ASEAN-Japan Transport Logistics Capacity Building were approved.

Kachin State USDA AGM-2007 held

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - Kachin State Union Solidarity and Development Association held its Annual General Meeting-2007 at the city hall of Myintkyina on 2 November.

Present on the occasion were Patron of Kachin State USDA Chairman of Kachin State PDC Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Ohn Myint, USDA Secretariat Member Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, members of social organizations, entrepreneurs, local people and members of state/district USDAs.

After opening the ceremony with a song by the USDA youth members, the commander and the secretariat member gave speeches. Then, they awarded prizes to the outstanding students and prize winners from organizations. Next, well-wishers donated cash for State USDA through officials.

In the afternoon, the commander and the secretariat member attended a merit sharing ceremony for Kathina Robe offering of USDA at Parahitta Monastery in Myintkyina. The commander and the congregation received a sermon from Wuntho Sayadaw State Ova-dacariya Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Silavamsa and of-fered provisions to the members of the Sangha.

On 3 November, as a gesture of hailing the Annual General Meeting 2007 of USDA, billboards were set up in front of the office of USDA in Myintkyina and the commander and the secretariat member unveiled the billboards by cutting the ribbons.

Next, the National Immunization Days for 2007 was launched at the city hall of Myintkyina with an opening speech by the commander.

Later, at the office of USDA the secretariat member met secretaries and organizers from state/district USDAs and fulfilled the needs.

Commander opens building of Post-Primary School (Ywama) in Hlegu Township

Yangon, 4 Nov - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win attended a ceremony to open the extended building of Basic Education Post-Primary School (Ywama) at Myoma Ward in Hlegu Township, here, this morning.

The Commander formally unveiled the school's signboard. No 3 Basic Education Department Director-General U Aye Kyu and donor U Aung Moe Kyaw of MWDC Co Ltd opened the new building.

Afterwards, the commander and guests visited the new school building. At the ceremony to hand over the new school building, the Commander accepted K 13.3 million donated by U Aung Moe Kyaw of MWDC Co Ltd and K 1.2 million by U Zaw Htaik.

Wellwisher U Aung Moe Kyaw handed over documents related to the new building to Director-General U Aye Kyu. Later, Hlegu Township Education Officer U Ohn Thwin spoke words of thanks.

Ywathagyi railway station, Satsan goodshed inspected

Yangon, 4 Nov - Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min inspected the extension tasks of Ywathagyi railway station at Yawthagyi here today.

First, Assistant General Manager U Htay Aung reported to the minister on the extension tasks of the railway station.

The minister visited sites to build workshop, staff quarters and car parking and fulfilled the requirement of the tasks.

During his inspection tour to Satsan goodshed, the minister also inspected the extension tasks of the yard and roadworks.

13th Myanmar Medical Specialties Conference from 10 to 13 Nov

Yangon, 5 Nov- The 13th Myanmar Medical Specialties Conference organized by Myanmar Medical Association will be held from 10 to 13 November at the Auditorium of MMA here. Research papers will be read at the conference which also covers symposium, clinical session and clinico pathological conference. Those interested may register at MMA from 7 to 9 November during the office hours.

Football team of Pakistani Armed Forces arrives

Yangon, 5 Nov - A football team of the Armed Forces of Pakistan Islamic Republic led by Brigadier-General Muhammad Naseem Khan arrived here by air this afternoon to play friendly soccer match with the football team of Myanmar Tatmadaw.

The Pakistani football team was welcomed by Rector of Defence Services Medical Academy Brig-Gen Ya Pyae, senior military officers, Defence Attache Col Zafar Jamil and officials of the Pakistani Embassy.

Villager loses leg in mine blast

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - A villager in Mone Township, Toungoo District, lost his right leg in an explosion on 31 Oct in Mone Township.

U Kyaw Shwe, 42, of Myaung Oo Village in Mone Township stepped on a mine planted by insurgents on his way to the woods near the village. His right leg was blown off and left thigh injured by the blast.

The victim was rushed to the station hospital in Mone Township and provided with medical treatment there.

Insurgents have committed destructive acts to jeopardize the community peace and stability and prevalence of law and order to panic the people.

No longer interested in activities of NLD Two of Monywa Township NLD quit

Yangon, 5 Nov - Two members of Monywa Township National League for Democracy resigned from the party of their own accord on 20 September.

U Than and U Tun Kyi of Taw Pu Village in Monywa Township, Sagaing Division, sent their resignation letters to NLD headquarters and local authorities.

In the resignation letter sent to Monywa Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Sub-commission, they said they quit the NLD of their own volition as they were no longer interested in activities of the NLD.

IRD's officials receive proficiency skills

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - Work proficiency course No 33 for the officials of the Internal Revenue Department was opened at the Ministry of Finance and Revenue here today.

First, Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun delivered an address on the occasion. Altogether 55 trainees from township revenue offices are attending the four-week course.

In his opening address, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Tun said that the purpose of opening the course is to improve the skills of the officials of the township revenue offices as they play an important role in development of the economy of the country.

He called on the trainees to work hard, to study the rules and regulations of the department during the training and to make efforts for meeting the targets of the department.

Also present were Deputy Minister Col Hla Thein Swe, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Than Nyein, the managing directors and the deputy directors-general of the ministry.

Gold medallists to have documentary filmed

Yangon, 5 Nov-Gold medallists from the states and divisions who stood first in the respective contests in the 15th Myanmar Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions are advised to contact the Myanmar Radio and Television in order to have a documentary video-taped.

CSSTB Chairman arrives back from Indonesia

Yangon, 5 Nov - A Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyun arrived back here by air on 2 November after attending the 14th ASEAN Conference on Civil Service Matters held in Bali, the Republic of Indonesia, from 29 to 31 October.

Member of CSSTB U Win Aung and Deputy Director-General U Wai Myint arrived back here on the same flight.
