Prime Minister General Thein Sein to pay official visits to Indonesia, Brunei

NAY PYI TAW, 11 Jan- At the invitation of His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia and His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Thein Sein will pay official visits to the Republic of Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam in the near future.

Chinese goodwill delegation calls on USDA Secretary-General

YANGON, 10 Jan -At the invitation of the Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Chinese goodwill delegation led by Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Chairperson of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament Madame He Lu Li arrived here by air this afternoon.

The delegation members were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by USDA CEC members U Aung Thein Lin and U Nyan Tun Aung and officials of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar .

At 3.30 pm, Madame He Lu Li and party called on USDA Secretary-General U Htay Oo at the USDA Headquarters in Bahan Township .

At the meeting, U Htay Oo explained matters pertaining to the objectives and work programmes of the association, the participation of the association in national development work and public welfare tasks in cooperation with the people.

Next, Madame He Lu Li explained the objectives and work programmes of her association. Then she praised Myanmar for her progress made in various sectors, saying that the issue of Myanmar is only her internal affairs; that China fully supports the implementation of the seven-step Road Map; and that China believes Myanmar will succeed in this process. Afterwards, she promised more cooperation between the two countries. Later, U Htay Oo and Madame He Lu Li exchanged souvenirs.

Also present at the call were USDA CEC members U Aung Thein Lin and U Nyan Tun Aung and officials.

In the evening, U Htay Oo hosted a dinner in honour of the Chinese goodwill delegation at Sedona Hotel.

USDA Joint Secretary-General stresses need for regional development

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Jan - Joint Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Electric Power No 1 Col Zaw Min together with Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Phone Maw Shwe held a meeting with townselders of Chaungkok and Kopin village-tracts, members of USDA and organizers at Chaungkok Village BEHS, Sinbaungwe Township, on 6 January.

The minister stressed the need for USDA members and local residents to cooperate in the tasks for the peace and development of the village, community-based development and socio-economic development. He then presented funds for education and health to officials concerned.

Upon arrival at Kanni Village in Thayet Township , he met with USDA members, organizers and villagers and donated 200 galvanized iron sheets for school for kindergarten which is under con-struction.

Then, Thayet Town-ship USDA joint-secretary U Saline San received 500 USDA membership applications of the villagers presented by a representative.

In the evening the minister met with towns- elders, USDA members, organizers and executives at the office of Thayet District USDA and emphasized the need for the members to join hands with local residents in the drive for the development of the region.

Pre-School Curriculum and 0-3 Guideline books distributed

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Jan - The distribution ceremony of the Pre-School Curriculum for the pre-schools and the 0-3 Guideline books for the day care centres, compiled by Social Welfare Department under Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, was held at its meeting hall here at 10 am today.

First, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe delivered a speech. Director-General U Sit Myaing of Social Welfare Department explained compilation of the curriculum guideline books.

The minister and officials presented the Pre-School Curriculum and the 0-3 Guideline books to Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, representatives of pre-schools under the department and self-reliant pre-schools.

Executive Daw Thazin Nwe of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) spoke words of thanks for distribution of the curriculum and guideline books.

The documentary VCD was presented to the attendees. The children from pre-schools in Nay Pyi Taw entertained those present with dances and songs. Later, the Minister and officials looked into the curriculum guideline books displayed in the hall.

Labour Minister meets personnel of Industrial Zones in Mandalay, Sagaing Divisions

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Jan - Minister for Labour U Aung Kyi together with officials looked into offices and social welfare clinics under the ministry in Mandalay , Mandalay Division and Sagaing and Monywa in Sagaing Division and work proficiency training school and Workers Hospital in Mandalay Industrial Zone from 5 to 7 January.

The minister met with personnel and gave instructions on creation of more job opportunities, good relations with the public, work site safety and health care services. He also inspected the chosen site for building a recreation centre of Township Inland Freight Handling Committee on Strand Road in Monywa and work sites.

On 6 and 7 January, the minister met with members of township Labour, Supervisory Committee, Supervisory Committee for Mandalay Industrial Zone, Industrial Zone Development Committee and representatives of entrepreneurs and workers from the factories at the meeting halls of Mandalay and Monywa Industrial Zones, and discussed matters on boosting productivity of the State, ensuring work site safety, increasing job opportunities and improving the skills of workers.

PRC hands fire engines over to Ministry of Forestry

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Jan - The People's Republic of China handed fire engines over to Ministry of Forestry at Kyun Shwe Wah Hall of the ministry, here, yesterday.

Deputy Minister of State Forestry Administration of the PRC Mr Lei Jiafu extended greetings and Chairman of China International Forestry Group (CIFG) Mr Zhang Zhangde explained the purpose of the donation.

The CIFG Chairman and Managing Director U Win Tun of Myanma Timber Enterprise signed an agreement to provide six fire engines and exchanged the documents. Next, Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung spoke words of thanks. The ministers, the deputy ministers and party viewed fire engines demonstration.

Both sides discussed a wide range of matters covering bilateral cooperation in forestry sector, technology exhanges, conducting workshops, environ-mental conservation, fire prevention, rare animals exchanges and signing MoU.

Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung and the Chinese Deputy Minister signed the documents compiling records of discussions and exchanged them.

It was also attended by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Tin Ngwe and Chinese guests.

Commander looks into cultivation of summer paddy in Htantabin Township

YANGON , 10 Jan - The cultivation of summer paddy and harvesting of second monsoon paddy of the double cropping was held at the paddy field of farmer U Tin Htwe in Yoegwa Village of Htantabin Township this afternoon, attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win.

On the occasion, departmental officials reported on cultivation of summer paddy.

Speaking on the occasion, the commander instructed officials to grow summer paddy meeting the target of 240,000 acres, broadcast fertilizers for ensuring the target production and utilize modern agricultural equipment in the cultivation tasks in the division.

Next, he viewed cultivation of summer paddy, broadcasting of fertilizers and making of natural fertilizer, thriving sunflower and maize plantations and harvesting of summer paddy of the local farmers.

In Yangon North District, over 50,000 acres of land has been put under summer paddy against the target of 160,000 acres, 5,700 acres of sunflower against 12,400 acres and over 800 acres of maize against 5,000 acres so far.

Warning against illegally imported medicines

YANGON, 10 Jan - The Ministry of Health issued an announcement today that the seized medicines illegally imported across the borders were not registered in Myanmar and their quality cannot be guaranteed. The ministry listed the illegal medicines namely Magnesia Tablet (Magnesium Hydro-chloride 300 mg) produced by Charoen Bhaesaj Laboratories of Thailand, Dexawin Tablet (Dexamethasone 500 mg) by Liwinnener Pharmaceuticals Ltd of Thailand, White Monkey Balm by Monkey Holding Peach Brand of Thailand, Lin Chee Tan Rheumatism Pills by Kang Chew Drug Works. The production source was not described for the medicine namely Injectio Gentamycini Sulfatis.

The ministry urged the people not to use the medicines that did not get registered in Myanmar and to buy the registered drugs only.

The medicine importing and distributing companies and medicine sales shops are not to import the unregistered and disqualified medicines, and action will be taken against those who do not follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health, said the announcement.

Mayor inspects sanitation tasks

YANGON, 10 Jan-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin inspected sanitation tasks in Inya Lake on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road , here, today.

Next, CEC member of Union Solidarity and Development Association (Yangon In-charge) Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin attended the opening ceremony of tube-well organized by Dagon Township (South) USDA in No 53 ward in Dagon Township (South).

It is learnt that the tube-well can supply drinking water to 120 households and pump water at 800 gallons per hour.

New school building handed over to Education Department in Rathedaung

YANGON, 10 Jan -A new school building of Rathedaung No 1 Basic Education School was handed over to the Education Department of Rathe-daung Township, Rakhine State , on 2 January.

The construction of the new school building was funded by U Chaung and wife Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Shwe Sin of Gold Uni Jewellery Co Ltd in Dagon Township . The two-storey building was built at a cost of K 320 million. The school building was formally opened by Sayadaw of Alodawpyae Monastery Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Dr Ariya Vamsa, Member-1 of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Police Col Ba Kyi, Donors of the building U Chaung and wife Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Shwe Sin of Gold Uni Jewellery Co Ltd.

Afterwards, a ceremony to hand over the building was held at the building and the family of Gold Uni Jewellery Co Ltd handed over documents related to the school building to the head of Rakhine State Education Department and donated K 20 million to the funds of the school. Donor Thiha Thudhamma Theingi Daw Shwe Sin explained the purpose of the donation, and the head of the state Education Department spoke words of thanks.

Talks on Fundamental International Trade Finance and Letter of Credit given

YANGON , 7 Jan - A ceremony to give talks on Fundamental International Trade Finance and Letter of Credit were held at the Office Tower of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, here, on 28 December.

UMFCCI General-Secretary U Sein Win Hlaing spoke on the occasion. U Soe Win, Managing Director of Myanmar Vigour Co Ltd, read out the paper and answered queries raised by the attendees.

Vice-President of UMFCCI U Zaw Min Win, and Managing Director Dr Ko Ko Gyi of Diamond Star Co Ltd presented gifts to the resource person.The ceremony was organized by the Work Committee for Trade, Finance and Revenue of UMFCCI.

Mr & Miss Myanmar Contests on 26 Jan

YANGON, 10 Jan Myanmar Bodybuilding and Physical Culture Federation will organize a ceremony to hold Mr and Miss Myanmar Contest 2008 at Myanmar Convention Centre on Mindhamma Road in Mayangon Township on 26 January.

The contest will include Mr Myanmar (senior contest), Mr Myanmar (junior contest) and Miss Myanmar (open contest) and every one can participate in Mr Myanmar (senior contest).

Those who won first, second and third prizes in Mr Myanmar (senior contest), Mr Olympic (senior contest), the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Bodybuilding contests and Mr Myanmar (junior contest) would not be allowed to participate in the Mr Myanmar (junior contest). For Miss Myanmar ( open contest), contestants should be between 16 and 30 years old, should be 5 ft and 3 inches and above high and should be single.

Hospitals in Bago Division (East) and Mon State inspected

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Jan - Secretary of National Health Committee Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo accompanied by officials met with health staff, members of township health committee and social organizations and local people at the meeting hall of the office of Waw Township Peace and Development Council in Bago Division on 8 January and gave instructions on matters related to public centered health care services.

The deputy minister looked into medicine store, patient ward, delivery room. operation theater, lab room and pathology.

Next, the deputy minister proceeded to Thaton District People's Hospital and met with specialists, doctors, nurses, health staff, members of district and township health committee and social organizations and townselders at the meeting hall of the hospital. He called for collaboration efforts to carry out the health care services under the leadership of local authorities and inspected the laboratory, intensive care ward, delivery room, orthopedic, special care unit, operation theater, infectious patient ward, pathology and medicine store.

The deputy minister met with health staff, township health committee and social organizations members and local people at Yinnyein and Zinkyaik rural health centres in Paung Township and stressed the need to have a fly-proof latrine in every house and at least a well which can provide drinking water in every village.

Next, he delivered an address in meeting with doctors, nurses, health staff, members of township health committee and social organizations at the meeting hall of Paung Township General Hospital and inspected patient wards, medicine store, delivery room, operation theater, pathology, laboratory and newly-built patient ward.

Reading session held in Shwedaung

SHWEDAUNG, 22 Dec - Shwedaung Township Information and Public Relations Department and Township Women's Affairs Organization jointly organized the reading session at Nwamayan Library in Nwamayan Village-tract of the township on 12 December.

School Family Day observed in Mandalay

YANGON, 10 Jan-Director-General U Aye Lwin of No 2 Basic Education Department attended a ceremony to present prizes to outstanding students who passed the matric exam with flying colours in 2007-2008 academic year and to observe School Family Day at No 16 Basic Education High School in Chanayethazan Township in Mandalay on 5 January.

Also present at the ceremony were officials of Ministry of Education, secretary and officials of Chanayethazan Township Peace and Development Council, executives of Parents and Teachers Association and School Board of Trustees, headmistress Daw Htwe Htwe Than, teachers, parents and students.

The outstanding students opened the ceremony by cutting a ribbon and entertained the guests with songs and dances.

Beautifying of landscape along urban road carried out in Ngazun

NGAZUN, 25 Dec - Ngazun Township Development Affairs Committee is implementing the weekly plan for beautifying of the urban area with landscapes. On 5 December, Executive Officer U Thaung Htaik of Township DAC and staff carried out weeding in landscape and spraying of water along the road in the urban area.
