Senior General Than Shwe sees off Prime Minister General Thein Sein on his departure for Brunei Darussalam

NAY PYI TAW, 15 Jan - At the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar General Thein Sein and party left here at 11:30 am today by special aircraft for Bandar Seri Begawan to pay an official visit to Brunei Darussalam.

Lt-Gen Kyaw Win meets personnel, local people in PruhsoLocal people urged to strive for ensuring perpetual existence of Union with Union Spirit

NAY PYI TAW, 15 Jan - Member of the State Peace and Development Coucil Lt-Gen Kyaw Win of the Ministry of Defence, accompanied by officials of the SPDC Office, arrived at Loikaw Airport yesterday. Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party were welcomed there by Chairman of Shan State PDC Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Thaung Aye, Chairman of Kayah State PDC Brig-Gen Nyunt Tin and military officers and departmental officials.

At the airport building, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win, Commander Maj-Gen Thaung Aye and party heard a report on maintenance of the runway, tarmacking and works to be done for extension of the runway presented by an official and gave necessary instructions.

The 5,230 feet runway will be extended for another 1800 feet and plans are under way to carry out the tarmacking work.

Next, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party visited Basic Education High School No 1 in Pruhso and viewed learning of students at computer skill room and classrooms.

At Tawwin Thazin hall of Pruhso, officials and local people reported on progress of regional development tasks to Lt-Gen Kyaw Win. The commander made a supplementary report.

Lt-Gen Kyaw Win stressed the need to make efforts for prevalence of peace and tranquillity and development of the region in cooperation with the State. Two universities including Technological University are being built by the State for regional development in the state and it is necessary for the people to realize the goodwill of the government, he added. He urged the local people to strive for ensuring perpetual existence of the Union with Union Spirit.

At Pruhso Township People's Hospital, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win, the commander and party inspected the generation of power with the use of solar system and patient wards. Lt-Gen Kyaw Win presented gifts to the patients.

Next, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win met with servicemen and their families at the hall of Pruhso Station and gave instructions on regional development tasks.

Lt-Gen Kyaw Win, the commander and party looked into maintenance tasks along Pruhso-Dimawhso-Loikaw road.

At the hall of Ngwetaung station, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win met with servicemen and their families and gave necessary instructions.

Next, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win inspected progress of construction of Loikaw Technological University and heard reports presented by officials.

Lt-Gen Kyaw Win presented K 600,000 for school uniforms of the faculty members of the university to Acting Principal Dr Theingi Shwe.

Lt-Gen Tin Aye, Lt-Gen Myint Swe attend ceremony to mark achievement of Myanmar Brewery Ltd winning ISO certificate, open extended factory building

YANGON, 15 Jan - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Aye of the Ministry of Defence and Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence attended the ceremony to mark the achievement of Myanmar Brewery Ltd that won first ISO 22000:2005 certificate in Myanmar at the compound of the factory of the company at No 45 on No 3 Highway near Pyinmabin Industrial Zone in Mingaladon Township this morning.

General Manager Mr Peter Ong of Myanmar Brewery Ltd extended greetings. Food Inspector-General Dr Law Yean Kok of BMTRADA UK praised Myanmar Brewery Ltd for its achievement in securing the ISO 22000:2005 certificate.

Technological Controller U Aung Aung of Myanmar Brewery Ltd reported on the utmost efforts made for obtaining the certificate.

Lt-Gen Tin Aye, Mr Anthony Cheong of Group Company Secretary and Director of Fraser & Neave Ltd and Food Inspector-General Dr Law Yean Kok opened the ceremony to mark the obtaining of the certificate.

54th Myanmar Medical Conference commences

YANGON , 15 Jan - The opening ceremony of the 54th Myanmar Medical Conference was held at the lecture hall (A) at Myanmar Medical Association on Theinbyu Street , here, this morning.

Patron of MMA Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint delivered an opening address.

Minister Dr Kyaw Myint and Chairman of MMA Prof Dr Kyaw Myint Naing cut the ribbon to open the archway of the Medicine and Medical Equipment Exhibition.

After the opening ceremony, the minister and party visited the exhibition. Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win, vice-presidents of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, representatives of medical associations of foreign countries, representatives of UN agencies and officials.

The paper-reading session, the annual general meeting and the election of new executives of the MMA for 2008-09 will be held up to 22 January.

A total of 50 medical educative papers will be submitted to the paper-reading session. In addition, 12 medical seminars and medical poster exhibition will be staged.

Commander calls for cooperation in providing health care services in Shan State (East)

YANGON , 15 Jan - Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Min Aung Hlaing on 11 January stressed the need for cooperation of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in prevention against the outbreak of bird flu.

At the meeting with members of the state, district and township health committees at Kengtung General Hospital on 11 January, Patron of Shan State (East) Health Committee Commander Maj-Gen Min Aung Hlaing also urged staff of the Health Department, members of social organizations and the people to work together in providing health care services to local people. Head of Shan State (East) Health Department Dr Myint Aung reported on health care services and preventive measures against the bird flu in the state. Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo gave a supplementary report.

After the meeting, Dr Mya Oo inspected the general hospital. He also visited Mongla People's Hospital on 10 January and gave instructions to officials concerned on heath care services in the state.

UMEHL launches gems, jade sales

YANGON, 15 Jan - The officials of Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd launched its 24th Gems and Jade Sales 2008 at Myanma Gems Mart on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road in Mayangon Township today.

At the sales, a total of 397 gem lots and 1214 jade lots will be sold through the bargain and auction systems.

Altogether 637 merchants- 529 from local and 108 from foreign countries - gathered at the sales. Gem merchants are allowed to inspect gems and jade lots until 17 January, and the sales will be conducted on 18 and 19 January.

GIS and Remote Sensing Courses on 19 Feb

FAO official calls on UMFCCI Vice-President

YANGON , 15 Jan - Mr Andrew W Shepherd Marketing Economist of Food and Agriculture Organization met Vice-President U Win Aung, General Secretary U Sein Win Hlaing, Joint-Secretary-1 Dr Maung Maung Lay, CEC members and executives of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry at its office here on 11 January.

They discussed agricultural, price changes of agricultural produce, conducting agricultural training courses and holding workshops .

President of MSFD leaves for Thailand

YANGON, 15 Jan - President of Myanmar Sports Federation for the Disabled Col Htay Naing together with Lt-Col Tin Maung Hlaing left here by air yesterday to discharge duties as leader of the Myanmar Sports Team for the Disabled at the 4th ASEAN Para Games to be held in Thailand from 20 to 26 January and to attend the Meeting of the Board of Governors.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by executives of the federation and officials of the Sports and Physical Education Department.

YANGON , 15 Jan-Minister for Com-munications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw inspected installation of auto-exchange in Ngathainggyaung, Ayeyawady Division yesterday.

Officials of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications reported on installation of the auto-exchange and other equipment to the minister.

The minister also looked into installation of auto-exchange in Yekyi, Kyonpyaw and Athoke and fulfilled the requirements.

Condensed milk, milk powder donated to hospital

YANGON , 15 Jan, Pahtama Group Company Ltd donated seven cartoons of Isomil 900 gm brand condensed milk and three cartoons of Similac 400 gm brand condensed milk powder worth K 3.6 million for child patients and infants to No 1 Defence Services Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Children's Hospital (300-bed) here yesterday noon.

YANGON, 15 Jan - The fourth respect- paying ceremony and get-together of the old students who passed matriculation examination in 1963 and got degrees from University of Medicine-1 were held at Park Royal Hotel on Yaw Mingyi Road here this morning.

He said the government annually presents literary awards including the National Literary Award for progress of literary world. He said he was glad to see that private organizations also present literary awards for the development of literature. The government is making efforts in the interest of the nation and the people, he said.

The minister spoke of the need to protect the national interest with the power of the media. He said it is important for writers to enhance the prestige of the nation and the people with good, high ideas and national outlook.

He thanked Tun Foundation that contributes towards the development of Myanmar literature and improvement of knowledge and reasoning power through the literature.

Ingapu Township gets hospital, digital auto exchange

NAY PYI TAW, 15 Jan-The opening of Ingapu Township People's Hospital took place at the medical facility yesterday morning.

Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Brig-Gen Kyaw Swe, Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint, Secretariat Member of the Union Solidarity and Develop-ment Association Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, USDA CEC Member Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung attended the ceremony.

Minister Dr Kyaw Myint, Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung and wellwisher U Thein Win formally opened the building. The commander unveiled the signboard of the facility. The commander and ministers inspected the new hospital.

U Thein Win-Daw Tin Lat Min and family donated K 196.5 million to build the 100-foot-long and 32-foot-wide reinforced concrete type two-storey building and to install in it an ECG machine, Nebulizer brand blood glucometre, suction machine, respiratory device, dental chair and accessories, TV, refrigerator, operation theatre fluorescent lamps and beds.

The commander and ministers attended the ceremony to open Ingapu digital auto exchange of the Myanma Posts and Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw and Minister Dr Kyaw Myint and Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung formally opened the digital auto exchange.

The 400-line exchange was built at a cost of K 40 million contributed by the ministry.

They attended the opening of Ingapu Township People's Hospi-tal and digital auto exchange and delivered speeches.

The wellwisehrs handed the documents related to the hospital to Director-General of the Department of Health Dr Zin Win Maung. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw presented an ECG machine to the command, three computer sets to Ingapu Basic Education High School , and U Thein Win and wellwishers, K 8 million to the trust funds of the hospital.
