Secretary-1 receives Secretary of Indian Ministry of External Affairs

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo received Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India at the meeting hall of the SPDC Office, here, at 10.15 am today.

Also present at the call were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win, Deputy Minister U Kyaw Thu and Director-General Col Kyaw Kyaw Win of the SPDC Office.

The Indian Secretary was accompanied by Indian Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Mr Bhaskar Kumar Mitra and staff of the Indian Embassy.

Lt-Gen Myint Swe attends cash donation ceremony for construction of extended building at Yangon Children's Hospital

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence delivered an address at the second cash donation ceremony for construction of the extended building at Yangon Children's Hospital, in Yangon , this morning.

Wellwishers donated K 101,565,000 including K 1 million by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win-Daw Mar Mar Wai and family, K 30 million by Managing Director U Aung Moe Kyaw of Myanmar Winery & Distillery Co Ltd, K 20 million as the second time by Dr Zaw Tun-Dr Htay Htay Kyi (Universal Construction), K 10 million by Naing Group Construction, doors and frames worth K 10 million by U Ko Ko Htwe (Taw Win Co), air-conditioners worth K 5 million by Sudhamma Mani-jotadhara U Zeya Thura Mon-Daw Khaing Khaing Myint (Fresh Air-conditioning), K 5 million each by Dr Khin Shwe (Zay Gabar Construction) and Academy Specialist Clinic.

The extended building will be a four-storey structure measuring 200 feet by 50 feet. The stake driving ceremony was held on 16 May 2007. On 6 October, the cornerstones laying ceremony was organized in conjunction with the first cash donation ceremony.

So far, the construction of the building has completed by 20 per cent. Those wishing to donate cash may contact the medical superintendent of the hospital.

New roads open in Myaungmya Tsp

Yangon, 8 Feb- Hailing the 61st Anniversary Union Day, new Kyarphungon-Latpan gravel road built by Myaungmya Development Affairs Committee was put into service in Myaungmya Township in Ayeyawady Division on 4 February.

CEC member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt inspected the new gravel road.

Thanks to completion of the 7,400-foot-long new gravel road, local people in Kyarphungon, Latpan, Zebingon, Pauktawsu, Danonchaung, Kanyinge, East Latpan villages can have easy access to smooth transportation. After attending the opening ceremony of Phayar road in the township, the minister viewed the road.

Local residents of Kwelwe, Sakok, Wedauk, Danonchaung, Kwanchan, Ohnbinsu, Layeindan, Datagu villages can easily travel from one place to another thanks to completion of the 1,560-foot-long and 12-foot-wide tarred road.

Afterwards, the minister met the secretaries and executives of USDA from Myaungmya District and Townships and attended to the needs.

Commander greets Union Day delegates

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb-Chairman of Management Committee for Holding the 61st Anniversary Union Day Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Wai Lwin cordially greeted the delegates from States and Divisions who will attend the 61st Union Day Celebartoin at No 7 Guest House, here, today.

Next, the commander looked into clinics of Health Department and Traditional Medecine Department and communication centre at No 7 Guest House.

Minister receives guest of ESCAP

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb-Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Htay Oo received U Wai Linn, special advisor to executive secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP), at the ministry, here, on 6 February. They discussed matters on holding seminars on technology, giving training courses and conducting researches.

Pakkoku U Ohn Pe Scholarship Awards announced

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - The Pakkoku U Ohn Pe Scholarship Award Fund Supervisory Committee of the Ministry of Education announced the lists of outstanding students who were awarded in respective subjects in the matriculation examination for 2006-07 and outstanding students majoring in Myanmar at the university.

Ma Wutyi Nanda Maung of No 6 Basic Education High School, Pathein stood first, Maung Myat Thu Han of No 6 BEHS, Pathein, second and Ma Eint Yadana Oo of No 1 BEHS, Insein, third in Myanmar . Maung Kyi Hla Win of No 2 BEHS, Kamayut, stood first, Maung Zeya Nway Naing of No 1 BEHS, Myitkyina, second and Maung Hayman Min Lwin Oo of No 2 BEHS, Insein, third in English. In Mathematics, Ma Ei Ei Mon of No 6 BEHS, Pathein, stood first, Ma Zin Mar Phyu of No 4 BEHS, Taunggyi, second and Maung Hset Paing Oo of Dagon No 1 BEHS, Yangon , third. Maung Maung Khaing of No 1 BEHS, Pyay, stood first in Chemistry. Ma Khin Myat Noe Tun of Dagon No 1 BEHS, Yangon stood first in Physics. Ma Wutyi Nandar Maung of No 6 BEHS, Pathein stood first in Biology. Ma Yin Wai Hlaing Thu of No 1 BEHS, Mohnyin in Economics. Ma Aye Aye Pyone of Gangaw BEHS stood first in Geography. Ma Aye Thida Win of Kyonpyaw BEHS stood first in History and Ma Phyu Mar Oo (External) of Kangyidaunt Township stood first in Optional Myanmar.

Ma Ohnma Myint ( Shwebo Degree College ), Maung Lwin Maw Oo ( Mohnyin Degree College ), Ma Teim Thè ( Kalay University ) and Ma Thurein Wint Wint Han ( Dagon University ) won Pakkoku U Ohn Pe Myanmarsar outstanding award for 2006.

Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award winners announced

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - The list of Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award winners for 2007 were announced today.

In the Collected Poem Genre, Than Aung (Anyamyae) won the first prize, Aung Thar San (Thandwe), second prize and Myaylat Min Lwin, third prize.

In the novel genre, Thein Than Win (Mahlaing) clinched the first prize.

In the collected short stories genre, the second prize went to Kyunsin Myay Saw Khet and the third prize to Thein Zaw (Shweli Oo).

In the treatise genre, Maung Maung Nyunt (Mann Tekkatho) appeared to claim the first prize.

In the research literature genre, Maung Yin Hlaing (Pyinmamyaing) secured the first prize and the follow-up winner was Ni Nyein (Anya Tekkatho).

The Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award Scrutinizing Committee selected writer Dr Thaw Kaung (U Thaw Kaung) as winner for Life-time Achievement Literary Award for 2007.

Ma Su Oo Htet (Second Year, Theatrics Major) of University of Culture (Yangon) and Maung Min Min Myat (First year, Music Major) of University of Culture ( Mandalay ) won Pakokku U Ohn Pe Scholarship.

The ceremony to present Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Awards and outstanding student awards will be held at Pyithayar Hall in Pakokku at 9 am on 1 March.

Foreign Minister sends message of congratulations to Thailand

Nay Pyi Taw, 9 Feb - U Nyan Win, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of congratulations to His Excellency Mr Noppadon Pattama, who has been appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Meeting of Central Body for Prevention Against Illegal Money and Property organized

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - The Central Body for Prevention Against Illegal Money and Property held its meeting No 2/2008 at the hall of Myanmar Police Force, here, this afternoon.

It was attended by Chairman of the Central Body Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Maung Oo, Vice-Chairman Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun and members, directors-general and deputy directors-general of relevant departments.

They discussed combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and implementation of suggestions on combating money laundering and terrorist financing reported by the assessment mission from 7 to 21 January 2008 in accord with the main programme of Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG).

MMA receives cash donation

Yangon, 8 Feb - Eisai Thailand Marketing Company Limited donated K 1 million to the funds for construction of Myanmar Medical Association (Central) building to President of MMA Prof Dr U Kyaw Myint Naing at the meeting hall of the association in Mingala Taungnyunt Township yesterday.

Union Day delegates visit Paunglaung Dam

Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Feb - Accompanied by officials concerned, Union Day delegates from States and Divisions visited Paunglaung Dam in Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana by car this morning.

Deputy Director U Han Than of Construction-5 of Irrigation Department explained facts about Paunglaung Dam.

Leader of the excursion tour Major Lwin Tun presented a commemorative pennant to Deputy Director U Han Than. Later, they visited the dam.
