Senior General Than Shwe felicitates Mr Kim Jong Il

NAY PYI TAW, 14 Feb - On the occasion of the birthday of His Excellency Mr Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which falls on 14 February 2008, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Commander looks into construction tasks in PyinOoLwin Township

NAY PYI TAW, 13 Feb - Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Tin Ngwe looked into construction of Pwekauk Dam near Yaythayaukgon village in PyinOoLwin Township on 21 January.

Next, the commander went to Padetha Myothit auto telephone-exchange in Ward 10 where he heard reports on construction of the bus terminal and brokerage houses in PyinOoLwin presented by District PDC Chairman U Min Lwin and gave necessary instructions. Next the commander inspected the auto telephone-exchange.

At Doekwin farm, the commander inspected growing of medicinal orchid, propagation process of orchid, making of dry medicinal orchid to be exported and thriving orchid nursery.

The commander also inspected running of micro hydropower turbine that can generate five kilowatts with the use of water from Hsinlan dam.

The commander went to Sericulture Factory of Myanma Industrial Crops Development Enterprise and looked into products and production pro-cess.

Next, the commander inspected construction site of 100,000-gallon capacity water tank. Upon completion of the project, the tank will provide about two million gallons of water to Yadanabon Myothit daily.

Minister looks into Myaungchaung Bridge on Gangaw-Kalay road

NAY PYI TAW, 13 Feb - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and officials concerned of Public Works inspected progress in building roads and bridges along Gangaw-Kalay road in Kalay District on 12 February.

After the inspections, the minister gave instructions on the requirements of the projects and looked into progress in building approach bridge of Gangaw side with the use of heavy machinery.

Myaungchaung Bridge is of reinforced concrete type and 185 feet long. Its motor road is 10 feet and 10 inches wide and can withstand 20-ton loads. Now, approach structures on the banks of Kalay and Gangaw are under construction.

Cornerstone of historic Eihsaponna Pagoda laid in Mingaladon

YANGON, 13 Feb-The cornerstone laying ceremony of historic Eihsaponna Pagoda was held in the compound of Amarawadi Monastery on Shwehninsi Road in Kontalapaung model village in Mingaladon Township on 9 February.

The ceremony was organized by Shwe-thuwun Sayadaw Agga Maha Saddhamma-jotikadhaja Bhaddanna Sadhiya (MA) and Presiding Sayadaw of Amarawadi Monastery Saddhammajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Revata.

First, Nwekhwe Sayadaw administered the Nine Precepts. Members of the Sangha recited the Parittas. Donors presented provisions to the Sayadaw followed by sharing of merits gained.

UMFCCI meets Korean delegation

YANGON, 13 Feb- Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry General-Secretary U Sein Win Hlaing, Joint-Secretary-2 U Tun Aung, CEC members and Executives met a five-member Korean delegation led by Professor Mr Hoisook Kim of Department of Education of Chonnam National University , Republic of Korea , at the UMFCCI building on 5 February. They held discussions on conducting Korean language course, testing of Korean language, com-pilation and distribution of Myanmar-Korea dicti-onary, production of bio-fertilizer and opportu-nities for providing of educative courses to new generation farmers

Nanda NayUparnay Dhammasala building opened

YANGON, 13 Feb-The opening ceremony of Nanda NayUparnay Dhammasala building,at No-5/7 of the 3rd lane of Botahtaung Pagoda Road in Botahtaung Township, was held in front of the building on 10 February.

Patron of Myanmar Gurkha-Hindu Dhamma Organization U Nanda explained purpose of donation.

Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko made a speech of praise. Later, Pro-Rector (Admin) Dr Myint Kyi of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University , Patron of Myanmar Gurkha-Hindu Dhamma Organization U Kuldit and wellwishers U Nanda and Daw Karlarvati cut the ribbon to open the building.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko pressed the button to open the signboard and stone inscriptions of the building and sprinkled scented water on it. The building was built at cost of K 700 million by U Nanda and Daw Karlarvati and family.

Certificates conferred on monks, nuns

NAY PYI TAW, 13 Feb - A graduation ceremony to confer titles and certificates on Members of Sangha who passed 28th Dhammacariya, Abhidhamma and other examinations was held at Maha Atula Waiyan Monastery in Aungmyaythazan Township on 9 February.

At the ceremony, Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Magway Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara delivered a speech, and Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Mayor of Mandalay Brig-Gen Phone Zaw Han presented certificates to Members of the Sangha who passed the examinations.

Certificates are conferred on to 422 monks, 35 nuns, five women and four men.

Stationery, cash donated to Monastic Education School

YANGON, 13 Feb - A Japanese Buddhist Monk and wellwishers donated stationery and cash to Maha Theikpan Monastic Education School in Thingangyun Township this morning.

The donation ceremony was held at Maha Bodhi Monastery in Yankin Township . Japanese Monk Zu Ei Ho Nakashita and lay-persons donated school uniforms, stationery and K 2.4 million to the school through officials concerned.

The Japanese monk presented a triangular gong as a gift to Sayadaw of Maha Bodhi Monastery Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Pandita Bhivamsa.

Deputy Minister attends outstanding award presentation ceremonies in Mandalay Div

NAY PYI TAW, 13 Feb - CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Deputy Minister for Transport Col Nyan Tun Aung and wife paid homage to a Buddha Image at Manaung Sasana Beikman in Ngamyagyi Village , Ngazun Township , on 5 February and donated offertories to the Members of Sangha.

The deputy minister and wife attended the third ceremony to present outstanding award at Basic Education Post-primary School in Kon Le Village. They presented K 100,000 to Ngamyagyi Basic Education High School and K 50,000 and 50 dozens of book to Kon Le Village Basic Education Post-primary School through officials.

They were also present on the fourth outstanding award presenting ceremony at Nat Gyi Village Basic Education Middle School (Branch) and presented 50 dozens of book to the school.

Wellwishers invited to offer alms food

YANGON, 13 Feb -The Religious Affairs Department today announced that the second session of the Sixth State Central Working Committee of the Sangha meeting will be held along with the conferring of religious titles to the Sayadaws and the offering of alms in Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill here from 17 to 21 March.

State Ovadacariya monks, members of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, members of the State Central Working Committee of the Sangha, Paradesi Central Working Committee of the Sangha, title recipient monks, invited Tipitaka Kovida monks, and Paccha Samana monks totalling about 996 will grace the ceremony with their presence.

Those wishing to offer alms food and cold drinks to the monks may make donations at the rate of K 2500 for a day's meal of a monk, and may contact Ottarakura Hall on Kaba Aye Hill in Yangon (Tel: 660269, 660998, 660149).

Lectures given to matriculation students

YANGON, 12 Feb - The Working Group for Rehabilitation and Reintegration under the Myanmar Women's Affairs Federation injected encouraging words to the students who are going to sit for the matriculation ex-amination, provided subject-wise knowledge, cash and kind to them at the Training School for the Girls under the Social Welfare Department on Malikha Road in Mayangon Township , here, today.

Deputy Leader of the Working Group Daw Khin Myo Myint made a greeting speech. After-wards, Leader of the Sub-Working Group for Prevention of Violence against Women Prof Daw Htay Htay gave educative talks on mental and physical needs for the matriculation students.

Winners of Grand Royal Special Reserve Golf Championship 2008, Qualify Round awarded

YANGON, 13 Feb - The prize presentation ceremony of Grand Royal Special Reserve Golf Championship 2008, Qualify Round was held at Oriental House in Mandalay on 10 February.
