Commander, CEC member meet executives of District, Township USDAs

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March - Patron of the Shan State (North) Union Solidarity and Development Association Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Aung Than Htut and Central Executive Committee member of the USDA Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint gave speeches at the teaching centre for matriculation examination at Lashio Township USDA office on 1 March evening.

On 2 March morning, the Commander and the CEC member met with executives of district and township USDAs at the meeting hall of Lashio Township PDC and gave instructions on organizational matters.

The CEC member inspected progress in construction of the extension of USDA office. The minister also inspected the construction of 66/33/11 KV (20 mva) sub-power station and the installation of the transformer in Lashio.

Next, the minister inspected the Shweli-Mansan-Shwesaryan power grid project near Sakhantha Village in Kyaukme Township and construction of pylon No 609 near mile post No 19 on PyinOolwin-Mandalay mortar road.

Commander meets staff posted to Cocogyun Township

Yangon, 6 March-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Hla Htay Win met service personnel who are posted to Cocogyun Township , Yangon South District, and travellers at Thakayta jetty of Myanma Five Star Line here yesterday morning.

The commander gave instructions on tasks for development of Cocogyun Township . He gave cash assistance to the staff and travellers who would travel there by MV Myitkyina and presented 235 different sorts of religious books and 15 VCDs donated by the Religious Affairs Departmet to the officials.

Yangon Division PDC delivered by boat construction materials, foodstuff, rice and edible oil including 2200 rubber saplings, materials for construction of Jinamara Sein Pagoda, two cradles, and a grinding machine.

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March -The State Peace and Development Council confirmed the appointment of U Aung San Tin as Director-General of the Factories and General Labour Law Inspection Department under the Ministry of Labour on the expiry of the one-year probationary period.

Bago Division (West) Sangha Nayaka Committee meets

Yangon , 6 March - The 6th annual plenary meeting of Bago Division (West) Sangha Nayaka Committee was held at Waiponlaryama monastery in Pyay yesterday. Chairman Sayadaw of the committee Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Vepulla presided over the meeting and Secretary Sayadaw Agga Maha Ganthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Suradhaja acted as master of ceremonies.

First, Ovadacarriya of the committee Sayadaw Bhaddanta Paduma and the Chairman Sayadaw delivered sermons.

Next, Vice-Chairman of Bago Division PDC Brig-Gen Sein Myint supplicated on the religious matters. Member Sayadaw Bhaddanta Tejinda discussed Vinicchaya affairs and members Sayadaw Bhaddanta Kumara, Bhaddanta Kavidhaja and Bhaddanta Sandima reported on religious affairs and Bhaddanta Siha, on academic matters.

Export and Import Procedure Course concludes

Yangon, 6 March - The Export and Import Procedure Course No 32 organized by Directorate of Trade under the Ministry of Commerce concluded at Directorate of Trade (Yangon branch) here on 3 March. The course was attended by 104 trainees and conducted from 21 January to 29 February. Deputy Director-General U Myo Oo delivered an address and presented completion certificates to the trainees.

CSSTB Chairman visits UDNR

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March - Chairman of Civil Service Selection and Training Board Dr Than Nyun accompanied by members of CSSTB U Aung Myint, U Win Aung, U Soe Oo, U Nyi Tun and U Kyaw Aung, visited University for Development of National Races in Ywathitgyi of Sagaing Township yesterday morning.

The CSSTB Chairman inspected the 40th anniversary com-memorative booth at Panglong Hall of the university, the nursery, the library and museum. After hearing reports presented by Rector U Zaw Min Thein and officials, the CSSTB Chairman gave necessary instructions to them.

Reminder issued for new waterway

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March - The Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System issued a reminder that waterways under Hline River Bridge (Shwepyitha) had to be changed as from 3 March.

A new waterway between piers No 2 and No 3 for vessels sailing upstream and another waterway between piers No 3 and No 4 for those sailing downstream.

The clearance of the waterway is 345 feet wide and 36 feet high. A green light triangle is fixed at the entrance to the waterway and a red light triangle lighted for no entry. The parallel running of two vessels is to be avoided while passing the clearance of the bridge.

Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee meets

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March-Nay Pyi Taw Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee held the meeting (8 / 2008) at the meeting hall of Nay Pyi Taw Command on 29 February.

At the meeting, Patron of the committee Com-mander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Wai Lwin stressed the need to take more systematic measures for traffic rules enforcement and provide services for punctual running of the bus lines for the convenience of passengers.

Next, the commander read the minutes of the previous meeting. The chairman of the Traffic Rules Enforcement Supervisory Committee explained the tasks of traffic rules enforcement, condition of road accidents and enforcement of traffic rules and regulations with added momentum.

Later, the committee and sub-committees reported on the tasks of traffic rules enforcement and the commander gave necessary instructions.

International Trade Course of UMFCCI concludes

Yangon, 6 March - Program-2, 5th Batch of International Trade Course organized by Educational Affairs Committee of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry concluded yesterday.

The course concluded at the Training Centre of UMFCCI in Pabedan Township with remarks by General Secretary of UMFCCI Chairman of EAC U Sein Win Hlaing.

At the ceremony, U Sein Win Hlaing and course instructors presented certificates to the trainees of the course.

USDA CEC member supervises rural development tasks in Katha District

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March - CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint met local people in Hsegyi Village of Wuntho Township on 2 March and presented exercise books and sports equipment to them.

The CEC member attended the ceremony to open the rural development camp in Kyaukaik Village of Htigyaing Township and provided one TV set, 25 bags of cement and sports equipment to officials.

The minister also attended the opening of Shwe Parami Library and the launching of small-scale hydropower station in Shwekyaung Village .

After paying homage to the Sayadaw of Shwekyaung Monastery, the CEC member donated provisions. He also gave 50 bags of cement, exercise books and sports gear to officials.

At the hall of Htigyaing Basic Education High School, the CEC member handed exercise books and sports equipment to officials. He also presented 50 bags of cement to responsible persons for construction of the rural dispensary in Langwa Village of Katha Township.

While in Htigyaing, the CEC member inspected renovation of Katkyaw Pagoda and donated K 480,000 to the funds of the renovation. He also provided 100 bags of cement for renovation of Mahalaytha Lake .

On 3 March, the minister attended the ceremony to share merits gained for construction of the Dhammayon at Lawkachanthaya Pagoda and offered alms to members of the Sangha.

The CEC member met local people at the rural development camp in Maunggon Village and presented sports equipment and exercise books to them.

Robes donated to 120 nuns in Mayangon

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 March - Robes and offertories were donated to nuns of Shwemyaing Thiri Nunnery in Mayangon Township on 25 February.

Secretary-General of Union Solidarity and Development Association U Htay Oo and wife, donors and members of Mayangon Township Union Solidarity and Development Association attended the ceremony. First, USDA Secretary-General U Htay Oo and wife presented robes to 120 nuns of the nunnery through Maha Ganda Vasaka Panditta Nun Daw Einda Sari of the nunnery.

Afterwards, the nuns recited religious verses and Nun Daw Einda Sari delivered a sermon. After sharing merits gained, the congregation donated offertories to the nuns.

Title recipient Sayadaws of Natogyi to be honoured

Yangon, 6 March - Three sayadaws who were conferred titles by the government will be honoured by Natogyi Township Association in Yangon on 22 March.

Members of Natogyi Township Association resident in Yangon will honour the three monks at Maha Thandi Thukha Monastery in Natchaung Ward, Tamway Town-ship.

Out of the three monks, one was conferred Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja Title and two were Maha Saddamma Jotika Dhaja title by the State Peace and Development Council.

Members of the association have been invited to attend the ceremony.

Ceremony to mark merit-sharing of 145th Buddha Pujaniya of Kyaikwaing Pagoda held

Yangon, 6 March - A ceremony to mark merit-sharing of the 145th Buddha Pujaniya of Kyaikwaing Pagoda in conjunction with rice donation was held at Phayathonehsu Tazaung of the pagoda in Mayangon Township this evening.

During the ceremony, members of pagoda board of trustees and the congregation received the Five Precepts from Chairman Sayadaw of No 3 Ward Sangha Nayaka Committee of Mayangon Township Bhaddanta Arsara. Members of the Sangha recited Paritta.

Next, Pagoda Board of Trustees Ovadacariya Sayadaw Bhaddanta Arsara preached a surmon and the congregation shared merits gained.

Afterwards, members of social organizations, religious associations and wellwishers donated cash and provisions to Chairman Sayadaw of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Ganthavakaca Pandita Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Nandhasamivbhivamsa and 200 members of the Sangha.

Gold foils offering, diamond orb hoisting on 21 March

Yangon , 6 March - The Sub-committee for Offering Golf Foils and Hoisting Diamond Orb at ancient Shwekyetyat Pagoda was held on a grand scale at the pagoda in Mawlamyine on 3 March.

The meeting discussed offering of gold foils, hoisting of diamond orb, recitation of Pathana Desana, allotment of shops and tasks for reception.

The ceremony to offer gold foils and hoist diamond orb atop the pagoda will be held on 21 March. Those wishing to donate cash and kind may contact Secretary of the Subcommittee U Pe San, Tel : 057-21216.

The deputy minister heard reports on progress of regional development tasks implemented in 2007-08 fiscal year presented by officials.

Next, the deputy minister inspected 40, 000-gallon-capacity water tank and 7, 200-gallon-capacity water tanks of No 3 tube well which can produce 5,000 gallons per hour at Min Kyaung ward.

Mr Gambari meets Minister for Foreign Affairs, diplomats, ICRC resident representative

Yangon, 6 March - Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr Ibrahim Agboola Gambari and party arrived at Yangon by air at 9.10 am today.

Mr Ibrahim Agboola Gambari met with Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win at the guest house of Yangon Command Headquarters at 1 pm today. He also met with Ambassadors, Charges d'Affaires ai of foreign embassies in Yangon and officials at 2.30 pm and the Resident Representative of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at Seinle Kantha State Guest House at 3.30 pm.

In the evening, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win hosted a dinner in honour of Mr Gambari at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel.
