Homalin People's Hospital upgraded to 100-bed facility

Nay Pyi Taw, 11 March - As a gesture of hailing the 63rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, a new building for the people's hospital in Homalin was opened at the hospital yesterday.

Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint and CEC Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint formally opened the new 100-bed facility.

Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Brig-Gen Myint Soe unveiled the bronze inscription of the hospital.

The commander and the ministers visited the dental unit, the medical store, wards, delivery room, operation theatre, laboratory and X-ray rooms of the hospital.

A ceremony to donate cash to the hospital was followed and Commander Brig-Gen Myint Soe accepted over K 14.6 million donated by Hkamti District Peace and Development Council and over K 11.2 million donated by wellwishers to the funds of the hospital.

Minister Dr Kyaw Myint accepted over 9.4 million Kyat donated by wellwishers to buy medical equipment for the operation room, over K 4.5 million to buy medical equipment and K 2.1 million to buy an oxygen tank.

Afterwards, Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint accepted over K 1.9 million presented by donors to buy ECG machine and over K 5 million to buy furniture for the hospital.

The new building was constructed at the cost of over K 828 million. As it has been upgraded from the 25-bed facility to the 100-bed one, the hospital can provide health care services to residents in Homalin and townships adjacent to Homalin.

Over K 16.9 million have been contributed to the medical funds of the hospital; over 2.5 million to three station hospitals each and K 500,000 to a rural clinic. Besides, wellwishers donated K 23.1 millions to the hospital to buy medical equipment and furniture.

Relief supplies and cash provided to fire victims

Nay Pyi Taw, 11 March - A ceremony to provide relief supplies and cash to fire victims was held at Pyilonechantha Dhammayon of Inbu monastery in Nay Pyi Taw Lewe this morning.

Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Lewe Township Peace and Development Council U Naing Tun explained about the condition of fire outbreak on 9 March. Next, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe and CEC Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana District In-Charge of USDA Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Thein Swe comforted the fire victims.

Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana District PDC U Khin Maung Zaw presented clothing and K 10 million donated by the Commander of Central Command the Chairman of Mandalay Division PDC and K 1 million donated by the Nay Pyi Taw Command through Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Lewe Township PDC U Naing. Tun Next, Minister Maj-Gen Maung Maung Swe presented relief supplies to the fire victims. K 1 million, 50 bags of rice and clothing were donated by CEC Member of USDA Minister Maj-Gen Thein Swe. Cash assistance and supplies of the Ministry of Industry-1 were donated by Director-General of Directorate of Industries U Thein Aung. Wellwishers donated cash and supplies to the fire victims. On behalf of the fire victims, Chairman of No 5 Ward PDC U Min Thu spoke words of thanks. Next, Chairman U Khin Maung Zaw explained about the resettlement of the fire victims.

The donations were K 23.6 million in total. Next, USDA CEC Member Maj-Gen Thein Swe and officials comforted the fire victims at the relief camps.

Commander, Minister supervise development tasks in Taninthayi Division

Yangon, 10 March-Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw Oo and CEC member of Union Solidarity and Develop-ment Association (In-charge of Taninthayi Division) Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met with departmental personnel, Social Organizations, townselders at General Administration Depart-ment in Palaw Township of Myeik District, Taninthayi Divisionon on 8 March. The Commander and the Minister delivered addersses on the occasion.

Next, townselder U Hla San accepted clothing donated by Ministry of Industry-1, Ministry of Transport, cash by Taninthayi Division PDC, 100 bags of rice by Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, 100 bags of rice by Asongkong Co, K 1 million by Taninthayi Division USDA, clothing by Kawthoung Township USDA, K 500,000 by entrepreneur U Hla Win for the fire victims of No 1 Ward in Palaw Township.

In the evening, the commander and the minister inspected production of rubber of Vinde Co in Thamok village. They later met with proprietors of cold storage factories and held discussions.

Yekyithit Water-colour Art Show to be opened

Yangon, 11 March - A total of 19 artists will display their artistic works at Yekyithit Water-colour Art Show, as part of the second step of Snowflake Art Gallery at the corner of Sanchaung Street and Shinsawpu Street from 1 to 7 April.

Some 90 water-colour paintings created by artists Hla Tin Tun, Maung Maung Thein, Aung Thein, Kyi Win (Yankin), Hla Han, Kyi Win (Today), Lun Pe, Mya Thaung, Tin Aung Hteik, Mon Thet, Win Myint Moe, Hla Thein Aung, Thein Myint Thein, Zaw Win (Kyimyindine), Ko Maung Kyaw Than, Sangyong Ko Ko Aung, Nay Win Aung, Maung Oo (Paung) and Saw Tin Wai will be on display at Snowflake Art Gallery.

Commander and USDA CEC member inspects developments of Kayin State

Nay Pyi Taw, 10 March - Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Maj-Gen Thet Naing Win, Central Executive Committee member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung and Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Zaw Min made an inspection tour of Paikyoun Township in Kayin State on 7 March.They donated provisions to Sayadaw and Sangha and enshrined religious object into Anhaingmei Hsutaung-pyae Pagoda in Paikyoun and also grew a Bo tree.

Afterwards, they met with the members of the USDA and villagers and the CEC member presented a computer and K 600,000 for Parahita school and publications for national culture and uplift and a computer for Paikyoun Basic Education High School .

In the evening, the CEC member accompanied by the chairman of Kayin State PDC met with members of Township USDAs , social organizations members and the people at the Aung San Hall of Hlaingbwe Township in Kayin State . The CEC member and chairman of Kayin State PDC accepted 1,000 USDA membership applications.

The CEC member donated K500,000 for Hlaingbwe Township General Hospital Fund and publications for culture and uplift to Hlaingbwe BEHS.

Fire breaks out in Nay Pyi Taw Lewe, engulfs 43 houses

Nay Pyi Taw, 11 March - A fire broke out at Pyiwin village in Nay Pyi Taw Lewe at 4.15 pm yesterday, engulfing 43 houses.

No sooner did the accident happen, Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Wai Lwin and officials concerned got to the scene, and put out the fire with 12 fire-engines.

The fire-victims were temporarily accommodated at refugee camps at the Pyiwin Monastery and provided with necessary help.

It was learnt that the fire started from the house of U Than Htay.

Final of Golf Championship postponed

Yangon, 11 March - Organized by Myanmar Golf Federation and sponsored by International Beverages Trading Co Ltd, a final of Grand Royal Special Reserve Golf Championship which was scheduled to hold on 14-17 March was postponed to 21-23 March at City Golf Club.

Those who had won qualifiers are to contact the committee for holding the championship (Tel: 09-99-72554, 01-653174) not later than 16 March.

Development tasks in Kayin State inspected

Yangon, 11 March - Central Executive Committee Member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Religious Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, accompanied by Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Zaw Min and officials made an inspection tour of Kawkareik Township on 3 March morning. They inspected river water pumping project and cultivation of summer paddy on 60 acres of farmlands in Kanne village, Kawkareik Township , Kawkareik District.

They also inspected the self-reliant reinforced concrete bridge which links Kanne and Tandaoo villages and then donated alms to Presiding Sayadaw Baddanda Suvana of Kanne village monastery.

They met with villagers and the CEC member donated K 800,000 for the building of a bridge and K 100,000 and stationery for Kanne Village Basic Education High School .

During the tour of Kyondoe Township , they donated alms to Sayadaw Bhaddata Vajena and members of the Sangha. They also met with members of Township USDAs, departmental heads, members of social organizations and the local people. The CEC member donated K 200,000 for Kyondoe Station Hospital and stationery for BEHS.

Next, they inspected cultivation of summer paddy and self-reliant connection of powerlines and progress in paving gravel road in Thanhle and Khayatwin Sanpya villages in Hpa-an Township.

The CEC member and the chairman of Kayin State PDC met with secretaries and executives of USDAs in seven townships of Kayin State at the meeting hall of State Peace and Development Council Office on 8 March.

USDA CEC Member inspects regional development tasks in Loikaw and Dimawhso Townships

Nay Pyi Taw, 11 March - Central Executive Committee Member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung, accompanied by officials went on an inspection tour of Loikaw Township on 8 March. The CEC member and party paid homage to State Central Working Committee of the Sangha Secretary Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Thayhtila Bhivamsa of Minkyaung Monastery in Loikaw Township and donated robes and alms to the Sayadaw and made cash donation for Lawkachantha Shwesekhon Pogada.

Afterwards, he inspected progress in building University of Technology in Loikaw and gave necessary instructions. Then he looked into construction tasks of Basic Education Post-primary School in Loikaw Township and contributed cash assistance for building the school and gave necessary instructions.

The CEC member paid homage to Chairman Sayadaw of Loikaw Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Maha Saddhamajotika Bhaddanta Sandima, donated robes and alms to the Sayadaw and made cash donation for building Mingala Pagoda.

The CEC member attended ceremonies to open new building of a clinic, Basic Education Primary School and Pre-Primary School in Dimawhso Township and provided necessary assistance.

He also inspected progress in building Kapalkhu village and Withekoo village monasteries and paid homage to members of the Sangha and donated robes, alms and cash to the Sayadaws.

The CEC member met with villagers and left necessary instructions.

Development tasks in Kyunsu Township inspected

Yangon, 11 March - Chairman of Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Com-mand Maj-Gen Khin Zaw Oo and Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein inspected develop-ment tasks in Kyunsu Township on 9 March.

During the inspection tour of the township, the commander and the minister met with departmental officials, townselders and social orgnaization members at Kyun Yadana Hall in the township.

Later, they visited fish breeding of United KMK (Myeik) Co Ltd in the township.

The minister met with employees of the ministry in Yangon Division at the Fisheries Department in Ahlon Township yesterday.

Hlinethaya fire victims get relief aids

Yangon , 11 March - Fire victims in Hlinethaya received relief aids from donars today and CEC member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin presented food- stuff worth K 630,000 to the victims.

The ceremony was held at No 16 Basic Education Primary School in Hlinethaya Township , and the mayor handed over food and provisions donated by Yangon Division USDA to the fire victims of Yayokkan Village . Chairman of Township PDC U Khin Maung Thein accepted the aids.

After the ceremony, the mayor met with the fire victims and visited the relief camps. Yangon Division USDA and wellwishers had already donated 50 bags of rice, 50 viss of edible oil and K 3.5 million to the fire victims on 26 February.

The mayor later inspected construction of two-storey building of Phyo Cetana Clinic and road works at Ward 18 in the township.

Minister visits matric exam centres

Yangon, 11 March - Minister for Education Dr Chan Nyein together with Chairman of Myanmar Board of Examinations U Ohn Myint today inspected the matriculation examination centres of No 2 Kamayut BEHS, Yangon Institute of Practising School , No 1 Sangyoung BEHS, No 1 Dagon BEHS and No 2 Kyimyindine BEHS and viewed students taking the examination at the centre.

Electric Power No 2 Minister inspects Natural Gas Power Plant

Yangon, 10 March-Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint accompanied by officials concerned inspected installation of natural gas-run turbine, genera-tion of electricity at full capacity of the plant, operating of steam power boiler turbine by Computer Control System at the Control Room of Natural Gas Power Plant in Ahlon Township here on 7 March.

Next, the minister and party looked into installation of new No 3 Turbine, running of Turbines at full capacity, running of steam-powered turbine boiler, arrangements made for repairing the old Turbine Rotor and attended to the needs.

Next, the minister presented K 200,000 for accomplishment of replacing new Turbine at Ahlon Natural Gas Power Plant and K 100,000 for maintenance of NEDO Turbine at Ywama Natural Gas Power Plant to the personnel and fulfiled the requirements.

Research and teaching treatise and poster exhibition holds

Yangon, 11 March-The opening ceremony of research and teaching treatise and poster exhibition (2008) of Yangon West University was held at the university here this morning.

Rector Dr Aung Aung Min formally opened the ceremony. Chairman of Myanmar Acadamy of Arts and Science U Than Oo and guests viewed the booths around the exhibition.

Displayed at the exhibition are research on solar power, generating of electricity from solar power, research treatises, books and research posters of Oriental Studies, Philosophy, Myanmar, Mathematics, Physics, Law, Industrial Che-mistry, Chemistry, History, Geography, English, Botany and Zoology and poster and research treatise books of extracting biodisel from edible oil waste by Chemistry Department. The exhibition continues till tomorrow.-

UMFCCI officials to take Managing Competitive Export Business course in Bangkok

Yangon, 11 March - An executive and a staff of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry will take the Course on Managing a Competitive Export Business from 10 to 19 March at University of Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok , Thailand .

U Kyaw Kyaw Win, an executive of UMFCCI, and Daw Thi Thi Win, staff of UMFCCI left here for Bangkok on 9 March by air. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by officials concerned.
