New Thitsa tarred road put into service in Myitkyina

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April-To honour the 63rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, a new self-reliant tarred road was put into service in Kyunbintha Ward, Myitkyina, Kachin State on 25 March.

Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Ohn Myint attended the opening ceremony of the road.

The 1300-foot long and 12-foot wide road was built at a cost of over K 9.8 million contributed by Kachin State PDC and local people.

Road inaugurated to honour Armed Forces Day in Aungmyaythazan Township

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April- As a gesture of honouring the 63rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, the repaved 76th Street was inaugurated in Aungmyaythazan Township , Mandalay , on 25 March.

Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Tin Ngwe, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Phone Zaw Han and the secretary of the committee for construction of the street formally opened the street.

The street is 5,630 feet long and 20 feet wide. It was repaved with asphalt at a cost of over K 73.6 million. Residents of the township contributed over K 49 million to the funds for construction of the street.

After the street had been opened, the commander and party strolled on the street and cordially greeted the residents.

Commander looks into progress of Ngawun Bridge

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April -Chairman of Ayeya-wady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Brig-Gen Kyaw Swe, accompanied by officials, on 22 March afternoon, arrived on the Hinthada bank of Ngawun Bridge (Myokwin).

They heard reports on progress in construction of the approach roads to the bridge on Ingapu and Hinthada banks, installation of iron frames at the main section of the bridge, construction of Nankathu Creek Bridge, maintenance of Kanyin Creek Bridge and preparations for enabling vehicles to pass through the bridge presented by in-charge Superintending Engineer U Kyaw Lin of the project.

After inspecting installation of iron beams and tasks of approach roads, the commander gave necessary instructions to officials.

Ngawun Bridge (Myokwin) is being constructed by Bridge Construction Project Special Group-4. The 2,835-foot-long bridge will have the 1,035 feet main bridge, flanked by 960 feet long approach road on Hinthada side and 840 feet long approach road on Ingapu. The bridge will have 28 feet wide motor way flanked by three foot pedestrian ways. It will be the pre-stressed reinforced concrete bridge that can withstand 60-ton loads.

At Yele Village of Laymyethna Township, the commander heard reports on tasks of the irrigation facilities presented by Deputy Director U Tun Tun and officials of Irrigation Department. The commander viewed the construction tasks carried out by using heavy machinery.

On arrival at Aingthabyu Village, Executive Officer U Tin Maung Than of the Laymyethna Township Development Affairs Committee reported to the commander on construction of Aingthabyu-Aingto gravel road measuring seven miles and 12 feet wide. After looking into the maintenance tasks at Aingthabyu Bridge , the commander attended to the needs.

Road opened in Myeik to honour Armed Forces Day

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April - As a gesture of honouring the 63rd Anniversary Armed Forces Day, a tarred road was commissioned into service in Myeik on 23 March.

The tarred road was upgraded at a cost of over K 11.5 million funded by Myeik Township Development Affairs Committee and the people.

The road was opened in the presence of Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw Oo.

Chairman of Myeik Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Shwe, Executive Officer of Myeik Township Development Affairs Committee U Soe Win and Chairman of the committee for construction of the road U Hla Tun formally opened the road.

The road is 1,420 feet long and 18 feet wide.

After the opening ceremony, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Zaw Oo and party inspected the tarred road.

USDA Secretariat Member supervises regional development tasks in Pale Township

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April-Secretariat Member of the Union Solidarity and Deve-lopment Association Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan on 31 March morning held a meeting with 3,000 local people from 13 villages at the monastery in Phalanpin Village of Pale Township.

After hearing the reports on regional development presented by officials, the Secretariat Member attended to the needs. Afterwards, the Secretariat Member explained tasks of the government and progress in the education, transport and agriculture sectors of the nation.

The Secretariat Member presented K 200,000 each to officials for renovation of basic education schools of Hsebyin, Zeiktaunt, Thandaung and WanbeU villages, publications to the libraries, exercise books to students and personal and household goods to the local people.

In front of Post-Primary School in Kandaunt Village , the Secretariat Member met over 2,000 local people from 18 villages. Officials reported on efforts being made for regional development. After attending to the needs, the Secretariat Member urged them to take part in the regional development tasks.

Next, he presented K 200,000 each for renovation of the basic education schools through officials of Kandaunt, Taungywathit and Kanyoe Villages , books to libraries, exercise books to students and personal goods to the local people. Afterwards, he cordially greeted the local people.

In the afternoon, another meeting was held at the pandal in front of BEHS in Mintaingbin Model Village , attended by the Secretariat Member together with about 2,500 local people from 30 villages.

The Secretariat Member explained matters related to regional development tasks. On behalf of the local people, U Hsan Win of Kyaukpyagan Village , U Win Maw of Letpugan Village and U Bo Htay of Uhnauk Village submitted reports that they will join hands with the government in the tasks for regional development, peace and stability.

Next, the Secretariat Member explained matters related to the role of the people to participate in development process of the nation and the people. He presented books to libraries, exercise books to students and personal and household goods to the local people.

From 29 to 31 March, Secretariat Member Minister for Information Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan made a field trip to the grassroots level and met about 25,000 people from 127 villages in Pale Township . He donated cash, books, exercise books and personal goods to the local people and attended to the needs.

Coordination meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw

NAY PYI TAW, 1 April ? In order to smoothly implement the e-Government work pro-grammes, a coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Communi-cations, Posts and Telegraphs in Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of the Central Committee for Electronic Com-munication Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw, the vice-chairman and central committee members, members of supervisory committee for electronic communication.

The chairman and minister discussed matters on electronic commu -nication and Certification Authority (CA).

Members of the central committee and the supervisory committee took part in the discussion. The minister saw to the needs.

Korean Language Test for oversea workers

NAY PYI TAW, 2 April - Labour Ministers from Myanmar and South Korea signed the agreement on employment of Myanmar workers on 28 November 2007.

In order to implement the agreement, Director-General U Chit Shein of Labour Department of the Ministry of Labour and Director-General Mr Lee Jae Kap of Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Korea signed Implementing Agreement between Ministry of Labour of the Union of Myanmar and the Ministry of Labour of Korea on Conducting and Administrating the Korean Language Test today. Those who are going to work in ROK with Employment Permit System must pass the Korean Language Test (KLT).

Inter-Ministry Men's Basketball tournament continues

NAY PYI TAW, 3 April - The First Inter-Ministry Men's Basketball Tournament for 2008 was held at Basketball Grounds here yesterday morning. In the group C, Ministry of Sports won over Ministry of Information while Ministry of Defence beat Ministry of Commerce.

In the evening events, Ministry of Rail Transportation defeated Ministry of Health while Ministry of Industry 1 crashed Ministry of Electric Power No 2.

Horizon League Basketball Tournament for 2007-08 season continues

YANGON, 3 April - Jointly organized by the Myanmar Basketball Federation and the Horizon Int'l Education Center, the Horizon League Basketball Tournament for 2007-08 season continued at Kyaikksan Gymnasium, here, on 30 March morning.

Filipino won over CCY 57-53; GB defeated the Gyuts 59-52; and Furious crashed Last Vampire 91-78. On 23 March, the Gyuts defeated Furious 83-81; Last Vampire hammered WHO 70-30; Cow Boy crushed GB 94-63; and Blue Boy won over CCY 76-65.

At the end of the matches on 30 March, KKS was leading the tournament on 14 points with seven wins in seven matches, followed by Cow Boy and Red Star on 12 points each with six wins in six matches.

ITBMU to open foreign language and computer courses

YANGON, 3 April - The 8th basic and advanced spoken English and German courses will be opened at International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University from 4 pm to 6 pm daily on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in April.

The two-month course on Introduction to Computer including Internet and Email will be opened from 3 pm to 5 pm daily on every Saturday and Sunday.
