Commission for Holding Referendum organizes meeting No 6/2008

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April - The Commission for Holding Referendum for the Approval of the Draft Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar held its 6/2008 meeting at the office of the commission here today.

Chairman of the commission Chief Justice U Aung Toe presided over the meeting and Secretary of the commission U Win Ko acted as MC, and members of the commission participated in the meeting.

As all the tasks carried out in the respective states and divisions to hold the referendum are nearly completed,the meeting passed a resolution to hold the referendum on 10 May.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman of the meeting Chief Justice U Aung Toe announced that the referendum will be held on 10 May in accordance with the resolution of the commission and the meeting ended.

Announcement of the date to hold Referendum

1. According to the Sub-section (a), Section 4, Chapter 2 of the Referendum Law for the Approval of the Draft Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar 2008, the Meeting 6/2008 of the Commission for Holding Referendum that was held on 9 April decided to hold the Referendum on 10 May 2008 to seek approval for the draft constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

2. In accord with the decision of the meeting, it is hereby announced that the Referendum will be held on 10 May 2008 for enabling the people to approve the draft constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Briefing on construction of Nay Pyi Taw Ngalaik Lake Gardens held

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April- A briefing on construction of Nay Pyi Taw Ngalaik Lake Gardens was held at the hall of the gardens here yesterday morning, attended by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Htay Oo.

Also present on the occasion were heads of departments, officials, members of social organizations and others.

First, Director-General of Irrigation Department U Khin Zaw explained work being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Suntac Technologies for the emergence of the gardens and future tasks with the help of charts.

Next, Minister Maj-Gen Htay Oo briefed those present on the purpose of the construction of the gardens and presented certificates of honour to officials who are engaged in the construction tasks.

Those present on the occasion viewed round the facilities and buildings of the gardens and attended to the needs.

Situated along Ngalaik Dam near Kyweshin Village , seven miles from Nay Pyi Taw, the Ngalaik Lake Gardens is completed with facilities including slides, natural resorts, lodgings and bathing beaches. The gardens will be opened to the public during Thingyan holidays.

USDA Secretariat Member, CEC Member carry out regional development tasks

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April- Secretariat Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung and CEC Member Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Thein Swe met with departmental officials at township level, executives of Mandalay Division USDA and members of social organizations and local people at Paunglong Gymnasium in Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana on 7 April.

Secretariat Member U Aung Thaung said that the government is now undertaking all-round development tasks in the health and education sectors. It is carrying out the tasks for the ensuring peace and stability and security. It is taking measures for the development of human resources. Members of USDAs are to participate in the regional development tasks in cooperation with members of social organizations and to implement five rural development tasks with added momentum.

Wellwishers invited to donate blood on Myanmar New Year Day

YANGON, 9 April - The National Blood Centre of Yangon General Hospital will be kept open from 9 am to 1 pm on Myanmar New Year Day which falls on 12th Waxing of Tagu 1370 ME (17 April) in order that wellwishers may be able to donate blood there.

USDA Secretariat Member supervises regional development tasks

NAY PYI TAW, 5 April-Secretariat Member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Thein Zaw paid homage to State Ovadacariya Myitkyina Wuntho Kyaungtaik Presiding Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Bhaddanta Silavamsa, Thuwunna Bowdhi Shwenyaungpin Kyaungtaik Sayadaw and Ayezaydi Kyaungtaik Sayadaw and donated offertories to the Sayadaws in Kachin State on 5 April.

The minister together with Deputy Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen San Tun looked into Digital Auto-Exchange installed in Myitkyina and attended to the needs. Next, the minister gave instructions on handling Digital Auto-Exchange and machines systematically, maintenance of the machines and timely completion of the tasks.

At Myitkyina town hall, the minister met with departmental officials at state and township levels, members of social organizations and townelders and attended to the requirements.

Deputy Foreign Minister back from Egypt

NAY PYI TAW, 8 April - Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Thu arrived back here yesterday evening after attending the Second Asia-Middle East Dialogue Ministerial Meeting (AMED II) held in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt from 5 to 6 April.

Deputy Minister U Kyaw Thu attended the opening ceremony of AMED II at Internationl Congress Building in Sharm El Sheikh on 5 April.

At the ceremony, Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, acted as new chair of the dialogue and George Yong Boon Yeo, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore , also acted as outgoing chair of the dialogue.

The deputy minister met with Vice Minister Mr Wang Yi of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China at the Neptune Hall and cordially discussed issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was held with the aim of realizing greater understanding among the governments and the people of Asia and Middle East and of fostering a mutually beneficial cooperation between the two regions. The participants discussed ways for promoting cooperation in three main clusters, namely political and security issues, economic issues and social, scientific and media issues. The meeting adopted the declaration on principles of amity and cooperation between Asia and Middle East .

The deputy minister attended the luncheon hosted by Foreign Minister Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit on 5 April. He participated in the Plenary session and closing session of AMED II on 6 April and departed for Cairo by air in the evening.

At the Fairmount Hotel in Cairo , the deputy minister met with Myanmar Ambassador to Egypt U Soe Myint and embassy staff and attended dinner hosted by Myanmar Ambassador.

Myanmar delegation members, Deputy Director-General U Kyaw Tin of Political Department, and Deputy Director U Kyaw Soe also arrived back on the same flight.

L&F Minister meets personnel, entrepreneurs

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April - Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met staff of Myanma Livestock and Fisheries Development Bank and its branches at the hall of Myanmar Fisheries Federation in Insein Township on 5 April.

At the meeting, the minister explained political and economic progress of the State and the duties of the State service personnel to be loyal to the State.

In the evening, the minister met with marine product entrepreneurs, livestock breeders and eel and crab exporters. The minister stressed the need to earn foreign exchange from the livestock and fisheries sector, boosting production of livestock breeding sector to supply the demand of the foreign markets and implementation of the aims and future plans of the ministry.

On 7 April, the minister visited Aung Moe Khaing Crab Breeding Farm in Crab Breeding Zone in Kyauktan Township . Director-General U Khin Maung Aye of Fisheries Department and officials reported on prospects for seeking profits from the crab breeding farm by supplying the demand of international market.

After attending to the needs, the minister looked into process of breeding crabs at the farm.

Doaru Cosmetics and Glorin Hair Care Products choose lucky draw winners for foreign vacation

YANGON, 9 April- Doaru Cosmetics and Glorin Hair Care Products held a ceremony to choose lucky draw winners for foreign vacation at Sedona Hotel in Mandalay on 21 March.

NAY PYI TAW, 8 April- Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun received President and CEO Mr Young Won Kang of Daewoo International Corporation and party at the former's office here this evening.

NAY PYI TAW, 7 April- Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint received Vice-General Manager of Central China Power Grid (CCPG) Co of the People's Republic of China Ms Xiong Hengxi and party at the Ministry here on 4 April.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Win Myint and departmental heads. They discussed matters relating to cooperation of hydro-power projects.

YANGON , 6 April ? The sixth Sayawun Tin Shwe Literary Award Presenting Ceremony organized by Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association was held at Traders Hotel, here, today.

Home Affairs Minister meets with departmental officials, members of social organizations and local people

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April - Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Maung Oo, accompanied by Deputy Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Brig-Gen Zaw Win and officials concerned met with service personnel, members of social organizations, townselders and local people at Buddhist Missionary Beikman in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon yesterday afternoon. At the meeting, he explained about prevailing conditions of the State and progress in undertaking of regional development tasks.

Later, the minister paid homage to Chairman Sayadaw of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Arcinna and MyoU Pariyatti Sarthintaik Presiding Sayadaw Maha Saddhamajotikadhaja Bhaddanta Sucittas and members of the Sangha and donated offertories to the Sayadaws.

Activities of certain foreign embassies to interfere in Myanmar 's internal affairs violate   Vienna Convention and international laws

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April-Certain foreign powers, with the intention of interfering in the internal affairs of Myanmar, are now resorting to a variety of means, while aiding and abetting some local political parties to destabilize the country.

According to the information, some diplomats of certain foreign embassies in Yangon regularly visit NLD (HQ), hold talks and give directives to harm the interests of the nation and the people. And they visited the office 19 times in March 2008, and 277 times from March 2007 to March 2008.

It is learnt that National Interest Group was formed on 29 March in Bangladesh with the aim of dealing with anti-government movements launched by foreign diplomats in the nation; and that the chairman of the Bangladeshi non-governmental political, social and economic advisory board said at the press conference held on 29 March that the diplomats of some foreign powers were violating Article 41 on 1961 diplomatic relations of Vienna Convention and they should stop all those activities immediately. Article 41 of Vienna Convention says that foreign diplomats have a duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of the receiving State, and the premises of the mission must not be used in any manner incompatible with the functions of the mission as laid down in the present Convention.

It is learnt that in Myanmar , the people who favour stability of the State desire that the activities of certain foreign embassies to interfere in the internal affairs of the nation violate the Vienna Convention and international laws, so, the embassies should stop such activities.

Participants invited for Regional World Blood Donors Day Banner Competition 2008

YANGON, 9 April - Participants have been invited for Regional World Blood Donors Day Banner Competition 2008 to mark World Blood Donors' Day which will fall on 14 June of 2008.

Myanmar Red Cross Society is also invited to participate in Regional World Blood Donors Day Banner Competition 2008. The Red Cross Societies of different countries with best two designs each have to take part in the competition at the regional level.

The participants are invited to take part in the competition in line with the designated rules. The commemorative motto is ?Voluntary Blood Donation-We Can Do!? Participant youth with the age of 16 to 25 or participants in team can take part in the competition. There is no term for the size of the design.

Purified drinking water to be donated on Myanmar New Year Day

YANGON , 9 April - In commemoration of 103rd founding Anniversary, Waynayya Thukha Yaygyansin Association will donate 40,000 bottles of purified drinking water worth K 3.6 million near the northern stairway on the middle terrace of Shwedagon Pagoda, at Waynayya Thukha Dhammayon and near four stairways on the middle terrace on 17 April (Myanmar New Year Day of 1370 ME).

So far, the association has donated 940,000 bottles of purified drinking water. Those wishing to provide water for life may donate K 10,000 to the association by dialing 381736 and 383511, extension 171.

Cultural troupes entertain residents in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon

NAY PYI TAW, 9 April - Two cultural troupes entertained members of the Tatmadaw and residents with songs and dances at No 2 Defence Services General Hospital (1000-bed) in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon Township on 5 and 6 April.

Shwe Myanmar Troupe of Production Branch under the Ministry of Culture performed entertainment at the hospital on 5 April and Kumudra Troupe yesterday. Members of the Tatmadaw and their families receiving treatment at the hospital enjoyed the performances.

Members of the Tatmadaw and their families and residents in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon also enjoyed the concerts.

Medical Equipment donated to Yangon Children's Hospital

YANGON , 7 April-A ceremony to donate medical equipment by Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) to Yangon Children's Hospital took place at the hospital here at 10 am today. Singapore Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Robert Chua Hian Kong explained the purpose of the donation.

Chairman of SAM Mr Teddy Chia and the ambassador presented two Patient Monitors and two Syringe Pumps worth over K 11.4 million to Medical Superintendent Dr Aung Kyi Win of Yangon Children's Hospital. Dr Aung Kyi Win presented the donors a certificate of honour and expressed thanks.

CEC member makes field trips to grassroots level in Mon State

NAY PYI TAW, 8 April - CEC member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint on 5 March met departmental personnel, members of social organizations, local people, executives and organizers of the township USDA at Shwehintha Hall in Mudon.

After fulfilling the requirements, the CEC member explained efforts of the government in all aspects to serve the interest of the people.

The CEC member inspected Basic Education Primary School of Kyaungnauk Ward and construction of the four-storey monastery in Ward 7.

On 6 April, the CEC member met local people from villages at Kyonkadat BEHS in Thanbyuzayat Township . After attending to the needs, the CEC member donated cash to the funds of the school and the village.

In the afternoon, the CEC member heard reports of the local people from villages at Ywahaung Dhammayon in Panga Village and presented cash assistance to the village.

He met departmental officials, social organizations and townselders at the hall of Kamawat BEHS in Mudon Township . He also met with local people at the Dhammayon in Kawparan Village .

On 7 April, the CEC member gave instructions to local people from the villages at Natgyichaung BEHS in Paung Township and donated cash to the funds of the village.

He also met with local people of villages in Thaton and Bilin townships. At Sittoung Paper Factory, the CEC member gave instructions to staff and social organization members and provided cash assistance for the social organizations and villages.

Botahtaung Seikkan Health Care Association makes cash donations

YANGON, 9 April - Botahtaung Seikkan Health Care Association held a ceremony to donate K 6.6 million to Parahita School for Development of National Races in Bilin Township, Mon State on 6 April.

Sayadaw Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Sovana, founder of the school, delivered a sermon and those present shared the merits gained.

Today's donation totalled K 7 million including provisions worth K 400,000.

The members of the association donated K 5.2 million to the funds of Mingalar Parahita Orphanage in Twantay Township in September, 2007.

Water pipelines opened in Dagon Myothit (North), Insein Townships

YANGON, 9 April - Under the leadership of Yangon Division Union Solidarity and Development Association and with the supervision of Dagon Myothit (North) Township USDA, Ngamoeyeik drinking water pipeline for Ward 41 extension, Tawwin and Mahamyaing Housing Estate in Dagon Myothit (North) Township was opened near Mahamyaing Housing Estate this morning.

USDA CEC member Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin, Joint-Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee U Kyaw Soe, Yangon Division USDA Secretary U Aye Myint, Tawwin Housing Estate Development Committee U Tin Mya and Mahamyaing Housing Estate Development Council U Khin Maung Win cut the ribbon to open the water pipeline.

The mayor opened the tap of the water pipeline. A ceremony to open water pipeline was held at Thantithukha Sasana Beikman near Tawwin Housing Estate. The Mayor delivered an address and accepted 300 USDA membership applications from Ward 41 extension, Tawwin and Mahamyaing Housing Estates and presented membership cards to officials. Thanks to installation of the water pipeline, the people from 2,000 apartments at Ward 41 extension, Tawwin and Mahamyaing Housing Estates can have access to drinking water.

The Mayor also attended the ceremony to launch the self-reliant Phugyi water pipeline to supply water to Etheikdi Block of Ywama East Ward in Insein Township . The CEC member together with the Secretary of Yangon Division USDA and Chairman of the Water Supply Committee U Tha Aung opened the water pipeline.

The ceremony to open water pipeline was held at Myanmar Nazarene Church on Baho Road in Insein Township . After delivering an address, the CEC member accepted 500 USDA membership applications and presented membership cards to the Chairman of the Water Supply Committee. Phugyi Water Pipeline will supply drinking water to the people from 500 households of Etheikdi Block in Ywama East Ward.
