Approval sought for number of Union Supreme Court Judges
Person suitable to be appointed as Chief Justice of Union nominated

Feb- The seventh-day regular session of the First Pyidaungsu Hluttaw was held at
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Hall of Hluttaw Building, here, at 11 am today, attended by
Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw U Khin Aung Myint, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw Thura
U Shwe Mann, Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw representatives.
Director-General
U Myint Thein of the Hluttaw Office acted as master of ceremonies.
First, Speaker
of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw U Khin Aung Myint took the position. He announced the
validity and start of the session as 655 out of 658 of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw
representatives who have the right to attend the today’s session were present
accounting for 99.54 per cent.
The Speaker of
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw announced that although an announcement was issued for
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw representatives to raise objections, if any, with clear
evidences regarding the formation of Union Supreme Court with seven Supreme
Court Judges including the Chief Justice of the Union there was no objection so
that the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw approved the formation of the Supreme Court of the
Union.
The Speaker of
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw submitted nomination to the post of Chief Justice of the
Union made by the elected President to Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.
The elected
President submitted nomination of U Tun Tun Oo to the post of Chief Justice of
the Union in accord with Paragraph (1) of Subsection (c) of Article 299 to
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw.
The Pyidaungsu
Hluttaw Speaker announced that the contact persons of respective parties may
take out curriculum vitae of the person suitable to be appointed as the Chief
Justice of the Union nominated by the elected President to examine his
qualifications, at the Director-General of the Hluttaw Office this evening and
that in accord with Subsection (b) of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Rule 27, Hluttaw
representatives who want to raise objection with clear evidences against the
said person that he does not possess the qualifications prescribed in Article
301 of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar may report to
the Director- General of the Hluttaw Office this evening.
Afterwards, the
Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw announced that seventh-day session of First
Pyidaungsu Hluttaw ended and the eighthday regular session will continue at 11
am tomorrow.
The meting came
to an end at 11.15 am.
Matriculation
students to take out identity cards
NAY PYI TAW, 16
Feb-Of the students who submitted the applications for sitting the matriculation
examination to be held from 7 to 17 March 2011, the students from examination
centres in the whole country except Yangon are to take out identity cards
printed with roll number and their photos beginning 22 February 2011 (Tuesday)
and the students from Yangon municipal area are to draw the cards beginning 1
March 2011 (Tuesday) before the examination.
The students
from Basic Education High Schools, BEHS Branches and Affiliated BEHSs are to
take out the identity cards from the school heads and the external students are
to take out the cards from the supervisors of the examination centres.
Those who suffer
inconvenience in taking out the identity cards may contact the respective
supervisors and township education officers, announced the Myanmar Board of
Examinations.

Feb-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Thiha Thura U Tin
Aung Myint Oo received a delegation led by Vice-Minister of Commerce Mr Zhong
Shan of the People’s Republic of China at the hall of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, here, this noon.
Also present at
the call were Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha,
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Maung Myint, Deputy Minister for Finance
and Revenue U Hla Thein Swe, Director-General U Kyaw Kyaw Win of the State Peace
and Development Council Office and departmental heads.
The Chinese
Vice-Minister and party were accompanied by Ambassador of the People’s

Feb - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Htay Oo received Director
Resident Representative Mr. Sanjay Mathur of the United Nations Office for The
Project Services (UNOPS) at his office here this afternoon.
The meeting
focused on further cooperation in agriculture sector for boosting agricultural
produce and matters related to projects funded by Livelihood and Food Security
Trust Fund-LIFT.

Minister inspects Nay Pyi Taw Auto-Exchange

Feb-Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs U Thein Zaw accompanied by
Deputy Minister U Thein Tun inspected Nay Pyi Taw Auto-Exchange today.
They inspected
functions of the autoexchange, mobile communication station, network control
& management centre and information technology centre and attended to the
needs for better connection of networks.
The minister
left necessary instructions at the meeting hall of autoexchange.
In the evening,
he received Chinese delegation led by Vice President Mr Yuan Jia Jun of CASC
(China Aero Space Company) at the ministry here and discussed matters related to
cooperation in communication sector.
New
Building of Pyinnya Alin Library in Pale Township opens

Feb - Honouring the 64th Anniversary Union Day, the opening of new building for
Pyinnya Alin Library was held at Aingma Village of Mintaingpin village-tract in
Pale Township was held in front of the building on 9 February.
Officials
formally opened the new building and Head of Township Information and Public
Relations Department U San Myint gave talks on durability and sustainable
development libraries.
Next, Aingma
village PDC Chairman U Zaw spoke words of thanks and wellwishers donated
furniture and publications for the library through the librarian.
Workshop on
Taking Agricultural Census held in Pale Township

Feb - The opening of Workshop on Taking Agricultural Census (township level)
took place at Land Record Department in Pale Township of Monywa District on 2
February.
Pale Township
PDC Chairman U Aung Kyaw Soe made an opening address and Head of Pale Township
LRD U Kyaw Zay Thiha Thu gave accounts on process of taking agricultural census.
The workshop was
held up to 6 February.

Feb-Myanma Electric Power Enterprise under Ministry of Electric Power No. (2)
signed contracts with five private companies for purchase of electrical
equipment for power stations at the ministry here on 14 February.

Feb-The opening ceremony of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Shield Table
Tennis Championship 2011 was held at the Hall of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command
Headquarters on 11 February.
On behalf of the
Commander-in-Chief (Navy), the Acting Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region
Command made an opening speech.
In the final
matches, No. 1 Naval Training Depot secured the championship shield.
Officials
presented prizes to the winners in the respective events.
