Curriculum Vitae of H.E. Mr. Thongsing
Thammavong, Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic

NAY PYI TAW, 11 July- His Excellency Mr. Thongsing Thammavong was born on 12 April 1944. He holds a certificate in Personnel Management.

After he had studied at the Secondary School and the Military Medicine School, Mr. Thongsing Thammavong became a teacher at Samneua Secondary School in Houaphan Province in 1963, and he also served as the school’s Deputy Managing Director.

Since then, he served in various capacities at different schools and college. He was promoted to Deputy Director General and then acting Director General of the Ministry of Education in 1976. He also served as the President of the Committee for Press, Newspaper and Radio of the Ministry of Culture.

He joined the Revolutionary Movement in 1959 and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in 1967. Before he became Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy of Propaganda and Training Board of the Central Committee in 1982, he studied on Politic Theory and Administration from 1980 to 1981. He was appointed as the Minister of Culture from 1984 to 1988. He became the Secretary of the Party Committee in 1989 and has been a Politburo Member of the Party Central Committee since 1992.

He was elected as Secretary of the Party Committee of Vientiane and Mayor of Vientiane Capital from 2002 to 2006.

He served as Vice- President and acting President of the People’s Supreme Assembly of the 2nd Legislature from 1989 to 1991 and from 1991 to 1992 respectively. He was elected as President of the National Assembly of the 6th Legislature from 2006 to 2010.

He was appointed as Prime Minister of the Lao PDR in 2011.

School Environment Greening Day observed at basic education schools

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-The ceremonies to mark the School Environment Greening Day for 2011-2012 academic year were simultaneuously observed at all basic education schools across the nation today.

Union Minister for Education Dr Mya Aye, accompanied by Mandalay Region Social Affairs Minister Dr Win Hlaing, Director-General (Duty) U Ye Lwin Aung of No. 2 Basic Education Department and officials, attended the tree growing ceremonies to mark the School Environment Greening Day at No. 26 and No. 28 Basic Education High Schools in Mandalay and Mandalay Education College this morning and planted saplings there.

They viewed participation of teachers and students in growing vegetables, perennial trees and flowery plants at the schools.

Jade, Gems and Pearl Special Sales goes on

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-The Jade, Gems and Pearl Special Sales 2011 continued at Mani Yadana Jade Hall near Nay Pyi Taw Gems Museum today.

Union Minister for Mines U Thein Htaik, Patron of the Central Committee, looked into purchase of jade lots by gem merchants through competitive bidding system and gave necessary instructions to officials.

Secretary of the Central Committee Managing Director U Thein Swe of Myanma Gems Enterprise and officials supervised the sales.

Today, 26 lots of jade were sold.

The special sales will last up to 13 July, and the competitive bidding sales continue tomorrow.

Slight earthquake recorded

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology released news today that a slight earthquake of magnitude 4.8 Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar, (about 12 miles southwest of Kanpetlet Township), about 150 miles southwest-west of Mandalay seismological observatory were recorded at 07 hrs 10 min 20 sec MST today.

Union A&I Minister attends demonstration on modern cultivation

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Union Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Myint Hlaing this morning attended the demonstration on modern monsoon paddy cultivation system on 30 acres of farmlands in Pobbathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw this morning.

The Union Minister participated in modern monsoon paddy cultivation system together with deputy ministers, directors-general, managing directors and staff.

The Union Minister met 50 farmers from Shwekhein and Ngwekhe-in villages of Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw who arrived there to observe thriving high yield paddy plantation that can produce over 100 baskets of paddy per acre, sunflower plantation that can produce 50-60 baskets per acre and sugarcane plantation that can produce 60 tons per acre.

He explained conducting farming equipment operation course to farmers of Dekkhinathiri Township, arrangements for selling farming equipment to farmers through installment system, distribution and purchase of high yield paddy.

The study tour group visited paddy and crops plantations.

Rural health centre branch opened in Myinmu Township

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Chief Minister of Sagaing Region U Tha Aye on 8 July attended the opening of rural health centre branch in Gwebindaw Village in Myinmu Township.

Region Minister for Social Affairs Dr Myint Thein, Deputy Administrator of District General Administration Department U Myint Wai and Sayadaw U Nagabala on behalf of wellwisher Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhana formally opened the branch.

The Chief Minister delivered an address at handing over of the rural health centre branch building to Health Department.

He viewed learning of students at Government Technical High School in ChaungU.

In the afternoon, the Chief Minister attended the coordination meeting with entrepreneurs who are engaging in timber industry in Sagaing Region and gave necessary instructions.

Travel Mart and Food Show reviewed

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Meeting on Travel Mart and Food Show was held at Ministry of Hotels and Tourism here this morning, with an address by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan.

Chairman of Myanmar Tourism Board (MTB) Dr Khin Shwe explained facts about the show.

After that, those present reported the Union Minister on the show.

The Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and Managing Director of Myanma Hotels and Tourism Services submitted the reports and Deputy Minister U Htay Aung gave a supplementary report.

In response to the reports, the Union Minister fulfilled the requirements.

More than 10,000 saplings planted in Uppatasanti Pagoda

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-The monsoon treeplanting ceremony of Uppatasanti Pagoda took place in the precinct of the pagoda here yesterday where member of Nay Pyi Taw Council U Than Htay planted a mango sapling.

The responsible persons of pagoda board of trustees and the Pobbathiri Township administrator planted saplings.

More than 10,000 saplings were planted in Uppatasanti Pagoda in this rainy season.

Selected Myanmar athletes leave for Malaysia

YANGON, 10 July - Selected Myanmar Martial Arts Athletes Team left for Malaysia this morning, to contest Third Pencak Silat Competition to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 10 to 15 July.

Myanmar Martial Arts Federation President Police Brig-Gen Thura Bo Ni and officials saw off the athletes at Yangon International Airport.

Team leader Daw Yuan Sai Ein, three coaches, five sportsmen and three sportswomen departed with the group.

Censuses and citizenship scrutiny cards to be issued within fixed period

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Khin Yi met departmental personnel, community elders and staff at Myothit Immigration and National Registration Department in Magway Region on 8 July.

The Union Minister explained guidelines on issuing censuses and citizenship scrutiny cards within fixed period with fixed charges, and programmes to be coordinated with other departments.

He gave instructions and looked round the archive of the department. The Union Minister, in the afternoon, met villagers of Phonegyi Village in Myothit Township and explained programmers for easily issuing of censuses and citizenship scrutiny cards and replied the queries of the villagers.

Regional development work in Zalun Township inspected

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July – Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Thein Aung visited Zalun Station on 8 July and left instructions on timely completion of Hinthada-Satkawt (Nyaungdon) railroad section and worksite safety.

Next, the chief minister and party attended the opening of Zalun Ayeya modern rice mill and a cash donation ceremony for the medicine funds for Zalun Hospital (25-bed). The donation totalled K 6,100,000.

Then, the chief minister attended a ceremony to provide agricultural loans and inputs by Zalun Ayeya Rice Company.

Later, he proceeded to Hsantan embankment in Hsantan Ward in Zalun, inspected maintenance of Zalun bank of Ayeyawady River and watercourse and left instructions.

First round of Nay Pyi Taw Inter-Ministry Football Tournament continues

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-The Fifth Nay Pyi Taw Inter-Ministry Football Tournament continued for the first round matches today.

At No. 1 Nay Pyi Taw Sports Ground, Ministry of Rail Transportation beat Union Supreme Court 4-2; Construction Ministry routed Commerce Ministry 5-1 at No. 2 Nay Pyi Taw Sports Ground; and Industry- 1 Ministry won over Energy Ministry 2- 1 at Nay Pyi Taw Lewe Sports Ground.

Deputy Minister for Construction U Kyaw Lwin and Deputy Minister for SportsU Aye Myint Kyu enjoyed the first round match at No. 1 Nay Pyi Taw Sports Ground.

Tomorrow fixtures are Transport Ministry vs Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation at No. 1 Nay Pyi Taw Sports Ground, Ministry of Labour vs Ministry of Mines at No. 2 Nay Pyi Taw Sports Ground and Science and Technology Ministry vs Industry-2 at Nay Pyi Taw Lewe Sports Ground.

MRIA meets Harvard’s economists

YANGON, 10 July - Vice- Chairman U Hla Maung Shwe, General Secretary U Ye Min Aung, Joint Secretary U Aung Zaw Oo and Treasurer U Thadoe Hein of the Myanmar Rice Industry Association received five economists led by Mr Thomas J Vallely of Harvard Economics Team at the federation head office here on 22 June.

They held discussions on development of rice production in Myanmar.

Kanhtooma station Hospital put into service in Taze Township

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Union Minister for Commerce U Win Myint, Union Minister for Education Dr Mya Aye and Chief Minister of Sagaing Region U Tha Aye inspected cultivation of land for growing monsoon paddy in Khabaungkyaing village on YeU-Taze road on 9 July.

The Union Ministers and the Chief Minister attended opening of Kanhtooma station Hospital and Basic Education High School.

Union Minister U Win Myint, the Chief Minister and wellwishers donated K 3.9 million for fund of station hospital and Union Education Minister Dr Mya Aye, 300 dozens of books for BEHS.

The Chief Minister looked into extension of motor road near Kanthit village on YeUKhinU.

Micro-credit scheme discussed in Bago Region

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July-Bago Region Chief Minister U Nyan Win yesterday afternoon attended the meeting on micro-credit scheme at the hall of Bago Region Government.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stressed the need to alleviate poverty rate while carrying out rural development. Those implement-ing the micro-credit scheme must be admirable with good characteristics and philanthropic spirit. He called for compilation of accounts correctly.

Chairman of Central Cooperative Ltd U Khin Maung Aye explained cooperative micro-credit scheme and replied to queries raised by those present.

Construction Ministry concludes three training courses

YANGON, 10 July - Altogether 84 trainees of the Ministry of Construction finished training courses at the central training school here yesterday.

The 6-week three refresher courses concluded with address by Deputy Minister for Construction U Soe Tint. Fortynine trainees attended the refresher course for junior engineers (civil), 20 trainees participated in the housing management course and 15 trainees in the other course.

Schools filled with greening activities

NAY PYI TAW, 10 July - Teachers and students volunteered to grow and nurture plants at schools nation-wide today to mark the school environment greening day today.

Deputy Minister for Education U Aye Kyu today visited No.2 Basic Education High School in Nay Pyi Taw Ottarathiri and planted a tree to mark the school environment greening day which falls on 10 July this academic year.

The deputy minister also encouraged the activities at No 13 BEHS, No. 3 BEHS in Nay Pyi Taw Pobbathiri, No.1 BEHS in Nay Pyi Taw Pyinmana and No. 14 BEHS in Nay Pyi Taw Zabuthiri townships.

The green activities were carried out at schools and education colleges across the country today.

Inter state/region basketball tourney kicks off

YANGON, 10 July – The 42nd inter state and region men and women’s basketball tournament was opened at the gymnasium of Aung San Stadium here this morning.

Defending champions Sagaing Region women’s team and Shan State men’s team presented their trophies to Director-General U Thaung Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department.

Next, Director- General U Thaung Htaik delivered an opening speech and formally opened the tourney.

Defending champion Shan State men’s team played against Rakhine State team.

Eleven men's teams and eight women's teams are participating in the tournament that lasts from 9 to 15 July.
