Ministry of Industry (2)

The Ministry of Industry (2) is headed by the Minister of Industry (2) with two Deputy Ministers. The Ministry's Vision and Mission are as follows:-

Vision

Mission

To play a vital role in transforming the nation into a modern industrial State. To produce a variety of mechanical and electrical machinery and equipment both quantitatively and qualitatively to satisfy the needs of the developing industrial economy.

Objectives Strategies
  • To obtain maximum production capacities at the existing industries under the Ministry of Industry (2)
  • To establish industries for the production of capital goods including industrial machinery and equipment for production of consumer goods in order to increase the standard living of the people.
  • To produce machineries and equipment, spare parts and personal and household goods for internal and industrial use and for export.
  • To establish new industries for the utilization of available natural resources including human resources.
  • To make available by means of research and development the raw materials, machineries and component parts for use by the local industries as import substitution products saving foreign exchange.
  • Renovation of existing machineries and equipment and addition of new modern machineries at the factories.
  • Adoption of productivity and quality control techniques at the factories.
  • Training of technicians and management systems development for productivity and quality enhancement
  • Establishment of new modern industries under the Ministry so as to foster the industrial development in the country.
  • Intensification of research and development activities especially market research both for the local sale and export of the industrial products.
  • Encourage supporting industries in the private sector.
  • Establishment of competent design and innovation center for industrial development.

The Minister for the Ministry of Industry (2) is responsible for all matters concerning policies, administration, planning, budgetary control and production activities of the industrial organizations under the Ministry. The Minister is being assisted by two Deputy Ministers. 

The Minister, Ministry of Industry (2) is also the Chairman of the  Myanma Industrial Development Working Committee ( MIDWC) which is responsible for the implementation of industrial development activities and guidelines set by the  Myanma Industrial Development Committee ( MIDC).

The  MIDC is under the Central Industrial Development Committee headed by the Vice Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council.

On 1st. June 1998, the Ministry was reorganized for maximum efficiency and smooth operation of all production facilities under the Ministry, by forming one Directorate and five industrial enterprises as follows:-



In addition to these enterprises, there are joint venture companies involving the industrial enterprises and foreign firms as stated below :

  • Myanmar Fritz Werner Industries Co., Ltd. a joint venture between Myanma Agricultural Machinery Industries and Fritz Werner Industrie-Ausrustungen GmbH of Germany.

  • Myanmar Daewoo Electronics Co., Ltd. a joint venture between Myanma Machine Tools and Electrical Industries and Daewoo Electronics Co., Ltd., and Daewoo Corporation of South Korea.

  • Myanmar Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries and Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan.

  • Myanmar Ekarat Transformer Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Myanma Machine Tools and Electrical Industries and Ekarat Engineering Public Co., Ltd., of Thailand and 

  • Myanmar Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd., a joint venture between Myanma Machine Tools and Electrical Industries and Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd., and Kinsho Corporation of Japan.

The enterprises under the Ministry  are also working in collaboration with local private firms for the production of certain items such as dry cell batteries, electric fluorescent tubes and motor car tyres on buy-back arrangements.

The Ministry of Industry (2) is willing to consider any proposal by foreign firms for joint ventures and also co-operations with local business firms for increasing productions at the existing factories taking into account mutual interests.


Functions

The Ministry sets the policies and guidelines for the industrial organization and factories under the Ministry in accordance with the policies and objectives of the government. It also controls and supervises the activities of the department and enterprises in order to achieve the maximum production targets and to maintain discipline and efficiency of the workers. The Minister and Deputy Ministers receive foreign delegations and representatives of foreign firms for matters concerning mutual interest and for joint venture proposals.
