Senior General Than Shwe delivers address at graduation parade of 48th Intake of DSA

YANGON , 16 Dec — The graduation parade of the 48th Intake of Defence Services Academy was held at the parade ground of DSA in PyinOoLwin, at 9 am today, with an address by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe took the salute of the cadet battalions. Next, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services inspected the graduate cadet battalions.

Afterwards, the graduate cadet battalion marched past the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

The Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services presented Best Cadet Award to Cadet Ye Kyaw Swa, Excellence in Training Award to Cadet Aung Kyi Thein, Excellence in Study Award (Computer Science) to Cadet Paing Soe Ko Ko, and Excellence in Study Award (Science) to Cadet Wai Min Htet.

Next, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe delivered an address at the graduation parade. (The speech of the Senior General was reported separately.)

The Senior General took the salute of the cadet battalions and left there.

After the graduation parade, Senior General Than Shwe met with four outstanding cadets and their parents at the hall of the DSA Headquarters.

Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing attends graduation dinner of DSA 48th Intake

Senior General Than Shwe inspects National Kandawgyi Gardens, National Landmarks Garden in PyinOoLwin

YANGON, 17 Dec — Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and party arrived at the National Landmarks Garden being undertaken by the Ministry of Forestry near the National Kandawgyi Gardens in PyinOoLwin on 15 December morning.

The Senior General and party were welcomed by Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung and officials. At the briefing hall, Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung reported on construction tasks, allotment of plots to companies and implementation of the tasks, growing of natural vegetation from States and Divisions and arrangements for public recreation being carried out in building the National Landmarks Garden in accord with the guidance of Head of State Senior General Than Shwe.

After hearing the reports, Senior General Than Shwe gave guidance that people will have the opportunities to observe replicas of natural landmarks of States and Divisions at the same venue. Furthermore, tasks are to extend construction of replicas of natural caves such as Pindaya Cave , Byadalin Cave , Saddan Cave , Peikchinmyaung Cave in the gardens, and he stressed the need to keep the garden pleasant and presentable.

Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected replicas of Shwedagon Pagoda, Shitthaung Pagoda, Mawtinsun Pagoda, PhaungdawU Pagoda, Myanan Sankyaw Golden Palace , Kanbawzathadi Palace , Reed Lake , Chaungtha Beach , Inlay Lake , etc in the garden by car.

Afterwards, they oversaw breeding of various species of birds in the National Kandawgyi Gardens .

Secretary-General of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister Maj-Gen Htay Oo, Secretariat Member Minister U Aung Thaung, and CEC member Minister Dr Chan Nyein who accompanied the Senior General met with district and township secretaries and ward organizers at PyinOoLwin District USDA Office, and called on them to actively participate in development tasks of the nation.

Senior General Than Shwe attends the ceremony to put   PyinOoLwin Hospital (200-bed) into service

YANGON, 17 Dec — Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe joined the ceremony to put PyinOoLwin Hospital (200-bed) into service at 11 am yesterday after attending the graduation parade of the 48th Intake of Defence Services Academy at DSA in PyinOoLwin.

Senior General Than Shwe and party were welcomed there by Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint, district and township level authorities, Medical Superintendent Dr Daw Khin Saw Win and specialists, health staff, members of social organizations, students and local people.

Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, and Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint formally opened the hospital.

Member of the State Peace and Development Council General Thura Shwe Mann unveiled the bronze plaque of the hospital.

Senior General Than Shwe sprinkled scented water on the bronze plaque.

General Thura Shwe Mann, Lt-Gen Ye Myint, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Zaw and Minister Dr Kyaw Myint also sprinkled scented water on the plaque.

At the hall of the hospital, Minister Dr Kyaw Myint briefed the Senior General and party on construction of the hospital buildings meeting the set standards in accord with the guidance of the Head of State to build the hospital as health resort in the hill station for ensuring convenience of patients, and arrangements made for opening the general practice unit, the gynecological and obstetric unit, the cardiac unit, the urosurgical unit, the paediatric unit, the larynges otology unit, and the neurosurgical unit.

Minister Dr Kyaw Myint presented a gift in commemoration of the opening the hospital to the Senior General. Next, the Senior General inspected the units, offices, patient wards and ICU of the hospital. Medical Superintendent Dr Daw Khin Saw Win and Chairman of Aung Kaung Kyaw Construction U Kyaw Wai reported on allotment of buildings in the compound of the hospital.

Senior General Than Shwe cordially greeted the medical superintendent, specialists and health staff.

PyinOoLwin Hospital (200-bed) is complete with the main building measuring 140 feet by 48 feet, two buildings measuring 128 feet by 48 feet each, and one building measuring 120 feet by 48 feet. Specialists of the general practice unit, the gynecological and obstetric unit, the urosurgical unit, the paediatric unit, the neurosurgical unit, and the cardiac unit at the hospital will provide health care services to patients.

Senior General Than Shwe visits Nanmyint Tower, project site for construction of Bagan Palace in Bagan-NyaungU

YANGON, 17 Dec — Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing left Anisakham Airport in PyinOoLwin, Mandalay Division, by Tatmadaw aircraft and arrived at Bagan-NyaungU this morning. They were welcomed there by Magway Division PDC Chairman Col Phone Maw Shwe, senior military officers, departmental heads and members of social organisations.

On arrival at Nanmyint Tower in Bagan Archaeological Zone, Senior General Than Shwe and party were welcomed by Htoo Trading Co Chairman U Te Za and officials. U Te Za reported on construction of the tower with 13 levels measuring 198 feet by 54 feet, building of the tower with the technique of earthquake-proof, opening of business centres, shops selling Myanma arts and handicrafts, movie theatre, coffee shops, seminar room, conference room, rest rooms, restaurants, open viewing level and other shops, progress in construction project that started on 27 April 2003 and construction of Nanmyint Hotel.

Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw gave a supplementary report. Senior General Than Shwe gave guidance on sale of Myanma traditional arts and handicrafts that attract the tourists and planting of seasonal colourful flowers in the environs of the tower.

Next, Senior General Than Shwe and wife and party inspected the coffee shop, conference hall and seminar hall and enjoyed scenic beauty of Bagan Archaeological Zone from viewing level-11. They also inspected tapestry and lacquer ware shops on the level-1.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party visited construction project site of Arimadanapura Bagan Palace of King Anawrahta in NyaungU. They were welcomed there by Minister for Culture Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, officials of the Department of Archaeology and the construction project in-charge U Te Za.

Minster Maj-Gen Kyi Aung reported on excavation of the Palace of King Anawrahta who founded the First Myanmar Empire and reconstruction of the palace, conducting of research, assistance rendered by Htoo Trading Co, construction work being done with the help of Myanmar archaeologists and architects and future task.

After inspecting the scale models for construction of the palace, Senior General Than Shwe stressed the need for construction of the Bagan Palace in accord with historical facts and systematic implementation of construction tasks. He also said that the aim of the construction of the palace is to enable next generations to take pride in their ancient palace and to have patriotic spirit.

Later, Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected the construction work.

Senior General Than Shwe inspects Textile Mill (Pakokku)

YANGON , 19 Dec — Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected Textile Mill (Pakokku) of Myanma Textile Industries of the Ministry of Industry-1 yesterday.

Senior General Than Shwe together with member of the State Peace and Development Council General Thura Shwe Mann and party left Bagan-NyaungU and arrived in Pakokku in Magway Division at 11:30 am yesterday.

They were welcomed by Commander of No 101 LID Col Maung Maung Ohn, senior military officers and officials of Magway Division, Pakokku District and Township.

At the briefing hall of Textile Mill (Pakokku), Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung reported on construction of the mill on the road to Shwetantit Port , three miles away from Pakokku, investment, installation of machines, production capacity, cotton, arrangements for raw materials and production of the textile mills.

Senior General Than Shwe gave guidance on productivity and requirements.

Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected sample of raw materials, local long staple cotton and finished products. They also inspected installation of machines at the weaving section and other units and production.

Minister U Aung Thaung reported on production of poplin and other clothing from Shwedaung and Paleik Textile and Finishing Mills, and textiles. Senior General Than Shwe then gave necessary guidance.

The Textile Mill (Pakokku) was opened on 1 October 2005 and it started production on commercial scale.

Senior General Than Shwe and party toured Pakokku and they were welcomed by local people, service personnel and Tatmadaw members. Senior General Than Shwe and party inspected renovation of Myakantha Park .

Senior General Than Shwe and party arrived back in Bagan-NyaungU by helicopter.
