Myanmar Mission categorically rejects the misconstrued allegations of the Press Release “Military coup has exacerbated already severe climate risks in Myanmar: UN experts” by Thomas Andrews, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar and David Boyd, Special Rapporteur on the issue of human rights obligation relating to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment on 27 November 2023

(Geneva, 30 November 2023)

  • The Permanent Mission has observed that the two Special Rapporteurs has recklessly blamed on Myanmar without having any evidence relating to the Climate Change. Myanmar has astonishingly noted on issuing the Press Release naming the country “Myanmar” as their judgment which is with the lack of any scientific data or any proved facts.
  • It is just an attempt to gain the International attention coinciding with the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference regarding the Climate Change. In reality, only finger pointing on Myanmar is such a funny joke while ignoring the big countries which are primarily responsible for the Climate Change.
  • Therefore, Myanmar Mission categorically rejects the said Press Release by the two Special Rapporteurs issued on 27 November 2023.
